What it is

On ownership: FieldEdge is owned by Xplor Technologies. FieldEdge own company page states that FieldEdge functions under Xplor Field Services division, and its timeline records the route: Advent International merged FieldEdge with Clearent in 2018, after which FieldEdge operated as an independent subsidiary under the Clearent Software Holdings portfolio, and Clearent later merged with TSG to form Xplor. Worth noting that the fieldedge.com homepage footer still reads FieldEdge without the Xplor lockup, although the lockup appears in FieldEdge own social handle and news headlines. The product lineage goes back further: founded in 1980 as Coastal Computer Corporation in Fort Myers, later renamed dESCO, later rebranded FieldEdge.

The positioning is specific and useful: complete business management software built for multi-truck operations, trusted by SMB and mid-market service leaders in HVAC, plumbing and electrical, with locksmith and appliance repair also in the industries menu. It is explicitly engineered for multi-truck operations rather than single-operator work, which distinguishes it from Jobber and Housecall Pro at the bottom end.

The central selling point is real-time two-way QuickBooks sync covering both Desktop and Online, with field and office transactions syncing automatically. That is unusual breadth for QuickBooks-centric contractors, most of whom get one-way sync to one QuickBooks edition from competitors here. Service agreement support is also properly built out, with tracking and billing across the multi-truck operation, a dedicated service agreement programme page, and automatic reminders. Other capabilities include drag-and-drop work order assignment across trucks, map-based route optimisation, mobile work order creation and dispatch, inventory across multiple locations and business units, flat rate pricing, and Proposal Pro for good-better-best quoting.

  • Offline is unknown. No offline statement was found on any FieldEdge page opened, and the App Store listing URL attempted returned 404. This is recorded as unknown, not as absent, but it is a gap a buyer should close in a demo.
  • No free trial, and the vendor says so outright. FieldEdge states that it does not offer a free trial because it finds new members have the most success without one. This is one of the few genuine verified negatives in this entire category.
  • The customer portal is marketed almost entirely as a payment surface, described in terms of getting paid same-day with secure in-house payment processing, so buyers wanting self-service booking or job visibility should confirm scope.
  • No public API or developer documentation was found, so integration beyond QuickBooks cannot be assessed from the vendor site.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

CapabilityStatusNotes
Workforce and crew management Timesheets, crews, certifications and workforce administration. Yes Partial, time tracking only. Eliminate manual time tracking with automatic reminders and status updates. source
GPS and vehicle tracking Vehicle or technician location tracking. Yes The homepage lists GPS-based smart dispatching. Note the product page describes real-time status and en-route customer notifications without calling it GPS tracking, so this claim rests on the homepage wording. source
Invoicing and payments Invoicing from completed work and taking payment. Yes Send invoices instantly by email or print on-site. source
Quoting and estimating Producing quotes and estimates for customer work. Yes Full work history and quotes for every customer in one place, plus Proposal Pro for good-better-best quoting. source
Parts and inventory Parts consumption, van stock and inventory tracking. Yes Manage inventory whether centralised or spread across multiple locations and business units. source
Work order management Work order lifecycle from request to completion. Yes Track materials from the warehouse all the way to work orders across trucks. source
Service contracts and agreements Recurring service agreements, entitlements and renewals. Yes Track and bill every service agreement across the multi-truck operation, plus a dedicated service agreement programme page. source
Customer portal A portal for customers to log and track jobs. Yes LOWER CONFIDENCE AND NARROW SCOPE. Described as a next-level customer portal providing a faster way to get paid same-day with secure in-house payment processing. The portal page itself was not opened and the capability is described only in payment terms, so treat scope as payments-centric rather than self-service booking. source
Technician mobile app A dedicated mobile application for field technicians. Yes FieldEdge Mobile. Create work orders and dispatch technicians from mobile devices across all locations. source
Route optimisation Optimising travel between jobs across a working day. Yes Optimise routes with map-based scheduling. source
Scheduling and optimisation Scheduling work against availability, skills and capacity. Yes Smart multi-truck scheduling and dispatching. source
Dispatch and assignment Assigning jobs to technicians and managing the dispatch board. Yes Assign work orders across all trucks with drag-and-drop; smart multi-truck scheduling and dispatching. source
Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. Not verified No API or developer documentation was found on any FieldEdge page opened or in domain-restricted search.
SLA management Measuring response and resolution against service levels. Not verified Not found on any FieldEdge page opened.
Offline working Creating and completing work with no connectivity, and syncing on reconnection. Not verified No offline statement was found on any FieldEdge page opened, and the App Store listing URL attempted returned 404. Recorded unknown, not absent. Close this in a demo if your crews lose signal.

NoteQuote-only. Three named membership tiers, Select, Premier and Elite, each with a Request Pricing button and no figures. Add-ons in the feature table are marked Call for Pricing. FieldEdge states that price can vary based on several factors such as team size and add-ons. Annual membership is implied by promotion terms referencing new annual Select, Premier and Elite memberships, but no price is given. RARE VERIFIED NEGATIVE: free_trial is recorded no because FieldEdge states explicitly that FieldEdge does not offer a free trial because we find new members have the most success. That is a vendor statement, not an inference from absence.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Real-time two-way QuickBooks sync covering both Desktop and Online, unusual breadth for QuickBooks-centric contractors. verified source

Limitations

  • No published pricing and no free trial, with the absence of a trial stated outright by the vendor. verified source
  • No enterprise positioning: FieldEdge self-describes as SMB and mid-market only. verified source
  • No public API or developer documentation was found, so integration beyond QuickBooks is unverifiable from the vendor site. editorial
  • The customer portal is marketed almost entirely as a payment-collection surface, so buyers wanting self-service booking or job visibility should confirm scope in a demo. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Small, Medium

Good fit: SMB and mid-market HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors running several trucks whose accounting lives in QuickBooks, either Desktop or Online. The real-time two-way sync is the strongest reason to choose it over Jobber or Housecall Pro, both of which offer narrower QuickBooks support. It is also a good fit where service agreements are a meaningful revenue line, because tracking, billing and renewal reminders are properly built rather than bolted on. Being inside Xplor payments-led portfolio means payments and financing are tightly bundled, which suits contractors who want one vendor for software plus card processing.

Poor fit: single-operator businesses, by positioning, and enterprise buyers, since FieldEdge claims no enterprise targeting anywhere. Also a poor fit for anyone who wants to try before buying, because the vendor states plainly that it does not offer a free trial, and for anyone who needs to evaluate on published price, since nothing is published and add-ons are marked call for pricing. If your crews work in dead zones, treat offline as an open question: no FieldEdge page states anything about it either way. And if you need integration beyond QuickBooks, the absence of any public API documentation makes that risk hard to size before signing.

Typical use cases: multi-truck residential and light commercial HVAC and plumbing operations; contractors running flat-rate pricebooks and good-better-best proposals at the kitchen table; and QuickBooks-centric businesses that want field and office transactions reconciled without manual re-entry.

Alternatives

Service Fusion Service Fusion The direct SMB alternative with the opposite commercial model: published flat rates from 208 per month billed annually with unlimited users, where FieldEdge publishes nothing and explicitly offers no free trial. Service agreements are missing from the Service Fusion tier matrix, which is FieldEdge strongest area.
Housecall Pro Housecall Pro Cheaper and fully priced for smaller operations, with Recurring Service Plans covering the maintenance-agreement requirement and a 14-day no-card trial that FieldEdge does not offer. QuickBooks support is narrower, Desktop only and one-way, so QuickBooks-centric multi-truck shops may still prefer FieldEdge.
FieldPulse Flicent Inc. Comparable SMB and mid-market residential trades scope, including maintenance agreements, inventory, job costing and a customer portal that is more than a payment surface. The decisive difference is offline: FieldPulse documents it mechanically, FieldEdge says nothing about it anywhere.
ServiceTitan ServiceTitan, Inc. The step up for contractors who need Enterprise, Franchise or private-equity-backed multi-location tracks, broader accounting coverage across QuickBooks, Xero and Sage Intacct, and audited public-company filings for vendor diligence. Also quote-only, and heavier to run.
Jobber Jobber Only for single-operator and very small teams, which FieldEdge does not target. Jobber publishes prices from 29 per month, offers a 14-day no-card trial and documents a GraphQL API, but tops out at 15 users on published plans and its offline status is unresolved.

Yes, both, with field and office transactions syncing automatically to QuickBooks in real time. This two-way, two-edition support is the clearest reason to choose FieldEdge over lighter competitors for a QuickBooks-centric business.
