FieldEdge vs Service Fusion

This is an SMB trades comparison between two products that solve the same problem with opposite commercial models. Both target small and mid-sized US service businesses in HVAC, plumbing and electrical. Neither targets enterprise. The decision usually comes down to how many people need a login and how deeply your business lives inside QuickBooks.

Service Fusion is flat rate with unlimited users on every tier, which is genuinely unusual in a category where almost everything is per technician or per seat. Published figures billed annually are Starter 208 per month, Plus 325 and Pro 533. Month-to-month is 245, 382 and 627, with the annual option described as saving 15 percent and charged as one annual payment at sign-up. The currency is inferred rather than stated: the page shows a bare dollar sign with no ISO code, and USD is inferred from Service Fusion being a US vendor based in Dallas selling into the US and Canada. For a shop with six technicians, two dispatchers, an office manager and a bookkeeper, that structure can be dramatically cheaper than per-seat competitors, and seasonal businesses benefit for the same reason.

FieldEdge publishes nothing. Three named membership tiers exist, Select, Premier and Elite, each with a Request Pricing button and no figures, and add-ons in the feature table are marked Call for Pricing. FieldEdge states that price can vary based on factors such as team size and add-ons. It also states outright that it does not offer a free trial, because it finds new members have the most success without one. That is a rare verified vendor negative rather than an inference from silence. Service Fusion makes no trial statement either and offers Get a Free Demo buttons, so its trial status is unverified.

On ownership, FieldEdge is owned by Xplor Technologies: its own company page states FieldEdge functions under the Xplor Field Services division, after Advent International merged FieldEdge with Clearent in 2018 and Clearent later merged with TSG to form Xplor. The product lineage runs back to 1980 as Coastal Computer Corporation, later dESCO, later FieldEdge.

The main differences

QuickBooks: the clearest functional difference

FieldEdge central selling point is real-time two-way QuickBooks sync covering both Desktop and Online, with field and office transactions syncing automatically. That is unusual breadth: most competitors in this tier offer one-way sync to a single QuickBooks edition. Service Fusion includes QuickBooks on all three tiers, and it is the one integration included everywhere, but the two-way, two-edition depth is FieldEdge territory. If you are weighing what sync direction actually costs you in reconciliation time, one-way versus two-way sync covers the mechanics.

Read the Service Fusion tier matrix before you budget

The 208 entry figure buys less than the feature list suggests, and a realistic configuration sits higher. The customer web portal is an add-on on Starter and Plus and included only on Pro. Inventory management is an add-on on Starter. eSign is an add-on on Starter and Plus. GPS fleet tracking is an add-on on all three tiers. Open API Integration is Pro only, at 533 per month billed annually. Functionally, Service Fusion covers customer management, estimates, scheduling and dispatch with drag-and-drop assignment, automatic route planning with real-time adjustment, one-click work order generation, a technician mobile app, invoicing with progress and recurring billing on Pro, integrated voice and text, and GPS vehicle tracking. Trade coverage is very wide, with more than 25 trade-specific pages.

Service agreements: a real gap on one side

FieldEdge has service agreements properly built out, with tracking and billing across the multi-truck operation, a dedicated service agreement programme page, and automatic reminders. On Service Fusion, no service agreement or contract management row appears anywhere in the tier matrix or on the homepage. That is recorded as unverified rather than a confirmed absence, but for a maintenance-contract business it is the single most important thing to probe in a Service Fusion demo.

FieldEdge otherwise covers drag-and-drop work order assignment across trucks, map-based route optimisation, mobile work order creation and dispatch, inventory across multiple locations and business units, flat rate pricing, and Proposal Pro for good-better-best quoting. Its customer portal, though, is marketed almost entirely as a payment surface, described in terms of getting paid same-day with in-house payment processing, so buyers wanting self-service booking should confirm scope.

Offline: unverified on both sides, and for the same reason

Neither vendor documents it. No offline statement was found on any FieldEdge page opened, and the App Store listing URL attempted returned 404. For Service Fusion, neither the homepage nor the full tier feature matrix mentions offline at all, and the matrix lists no offline row on any tier; offline is claimed only on vendor-authored competitor-comparison pages that were not opened directly. Both are recorded as unverified rather than absent. Given how routinely offline is oversold in this market, that silence is a gap to close in a demo rather than something to assume either way. If dead-zone working is a hard requirement, FieldPulse and BigChange both document offline behaviour explicitly and belong on the same shortlist.

Integration risk

Neither product offers assessable integration depth beyond accounting. No public API or developer documentation was found for FieldEdge anywhere. Service Fusion lists Open API Integration on Pro but publishes no API documentation URL, so the documented half of that capability is unverified. Service Fusion integrated voice and text names no provider, so no telephony integration could be recorded.

Capabilities
Documented API Not verified No API or developer documentation was found on any FieldEdge page opened or in domain-restricted search. Yes QUALIFIED. Open API Integration is listed as included on the Pro tier only. No public API documentation URL was found, so the documented half of this capability is unverified. source
Workforce and crew management Yes Partial, time tracking only. Eliminate manual time tracking with automatic reminders and status updates. source Not verified No time tracking, payroll or labour scheduling module was verified on the pages opened.
SLA management Not verified Not found on any FieldEdge page opened. Not verified Not verified on the vendor site.
GPS and vehicle tracking Yes The homepage lists GPS-based smart dispatching. Note the product page describes real-time status and en-route customer notifications without calling it GPS tracking, so this claim rests on the homepage wording. source Yes Track service vehicles in real time. GPS fleet tracking is listed as an add-on on all three tiers. source
Invoicing and payments Yes Send invoices instantly by email or print on-site. source Yes Auto-generate invoices from completed jobs. Pro adds progress billing and recurring invoicing. source
Quoting and estimating Yes Full work history and quotes for every customer in one place, plus Proposal Pro for good-better-best quoting. source Yes Estimates automatically populate with service rates. source
Parts and inventory Yes Manage inventory whether centralised or spread across multiple locations and business units. source Yes Inventory management. An add-on on Starter, included on Plus and Pro. source
Work order management Yes Track materials from the warehouse all the way to work orders across trucks. source Yes Generate work orders in a single click. source
Service contracts and agreements Yes Track and bill every service agreement across the multi-truck operation, plus a dedicated service agreement programme page. source Not verified Not listed on any tier of the feature matrix and not on the homepage. A real gap against ServiceTitan and FieldEdge, but recorded unknown rather than as a verified absence.
Customer portal Yes LOWER CONFIDENCE AND NARROW SCOPE. Described as a next-level customer portal providing a faster way to get paid same-day with secure in-house payment processing. The portal page itself was not opened and the capability is described only in payment terms, so treat scope as payments-centric rather than self-service booking. source Yes Customer web portal. IMPORTANT: an add-on on Starter and Plus, included only on Pro. source
Offline working Not verified No offline statement was found on any FieldEdge page opened, and the App Store listing URL attempted returned 404. Recorded unknown, not absent. Close this in a demo if your crews lose signal. Not verified The homepage and the full tier feature matrix do not mention offline at all, and the matrix lists no offline row on any tier. Offline is claimed only on vendor-authored competitor-comparison pages that were not opened directly. Given how frequently offline is overstated in this category, recorded unknown rather than resolved.
Technician mobile app Yes FieldEdge Mobile. Create work orders and dispatch technicians from mobile devices across all locations. source Yes Technician mobile app letting technicians view schedules and access service requests. source
Route optimisation Yes Optimise routes with map-based scheduling. source Yes Automatically plan routes, with real-time adjustment. source

Not verified means the capability has not been checked for that product. It does not mean the product lacks it. Blank cells and unverified rows are never counted as a "no".

Strengths and limitations

Drawn from each product's own profile, where every item is labelled a verified fact or an editorial judgement.

Which to choose

Choose Service Fusion if your user count is high relative to revenue, if you want a published price you can budget against today, or if you are tired of policing seat counts. Price the Pro tier, not Starter, if you need the customer portal or API access, and add GPS fleet tracking on top of whichever tier you choose.

Choose FieldEdge if you run several trucks, your accounting lives in QuickBooks and you want real-time two-way sync across Desktop and Online, or if service agreements are a meaningful revenue line that must be tracked, billed and renewed inside the field system. Accept that you cannot try it first, because the vendor says so, and that you cannot budget without a sales call.

Neither is right for a sole trader, since both position around multi-truck or multi-user operations, and neither targets enterprise. For both, treat offline as an unanswered question until you have tested it on a real phone in a real basement.

Frequently asked questions

Service Fusion. Starter 208, Plus 325 and Pro 533 per month billed annually, or 245, 382 and 627 month-to-month, each with unlimited users. The currency is a bare dollar sign, so USD is inferred from the vendor being US-based rather than stated. FieldEdge publishes nothing: three tiers, each with a Request Pricing button and no figures, and add-ons marked Call for Pricing.

FieldEdge states outright that it does not offer a free trial, because it finds new members have the most success without one. That is a vendor statement, not an inference. Service Fusion makes no trial statement on its pricing page and offers Get a Free Demo buttons instead, so its trial status is unverified. A demo is not a trial.

Unverified for both, and that is the honest answer rather than a no. No FieldEdge page opened mentions offline at all. Service Fusion does not mention offline on its homepage or anywhere in its full tier feature matrix. If offline working matters, test it in a demo, or look at products that document it, such as FieldPulse or BigChange.

FieldEdge. It tracks and bills service agreements across the multi-truck operation, runs a dedicated service agreement programme and sends automatic reminders. No service agreement or contract management row appears anywhere in the Service Fusion tier matrix, which is a real gap to probe before buying.

Attribute values come from each product's structured profile rather than being written into this page, so a correction made once appears everywhere. This comparison was last reviewed on 7 November 2026. Assessment of this category is documentation-based, not hands-on testing of every product.
