Housecall Pro Alternatives

Housecall Pro is a contractor primary operational system rather than a scheduling layer, covering scheduling and dispatch with technician location, GPS route optimisation, estimates with a sales proposal tool, invoicing, payments, a customer portal and recurring service plans. It is also the easiest product in this whole category to budget for, because it is the only one that states its pricing currency: the page says all prices are in USD and are exclusive of sales tax. Basic is 59 per month billed annually or 79 monthly for 1 user, Essentials 149 or 189 for 5 users, and Max 299 or 329 for 8 users plus 35 per month per additional user. Card processing is advertised as low as 2.59 percent and bank payments carry a 1 percent fee. The trial is 14 days with no credit card and full access to the MAX plan.

Read the pricing page carefully, though. Several headline figures are promotional first-period offers, for example 26 per month for one month on Basic and Essentials and 99 per month for three months on Max, and those are not the entry price.

The most common reason to look elsewhere is offline working, and the limits are worth quoting precisely. Jobs are the only area of the app where data can be stored, and the job must have been opened while online. Cached fields are date and time, duration, customer name and address, customer history, line items, private notes, job tags, checklists and attachments, plus the Upcoming Job and Open Work dashboard cards, with navigation to notes, checklists and attachments available only if previously viewed on the device. Housecall Pro states that editing without cell service or WiFi is not supported at this time. Cached data is evicted oldest-first past an undisclosed limit. That is read-only offline caching, not offline working: a technician cannot complete a job in a dead zone.

Two other triggers come up repeatedly. Accounting fit is narrow, since the integrations page specifies QuickBooks Desktop with one-way invoice sync and Xero is not listed at all. And growth is sales-gated, because the top published plan includes 8 users and routes to Book Demo rather than self-serve checkout. Buyers needing custom integration should also note that no API or webhooks are mentioned anywhere and no developer portal was found, so Zapier appears to be the extension path.

Against those, keep two Housecall Pro strengths in view when comparing: Recurring Service Plans give genuine maintenance-contract support that many small-contractor products lack, and the 30-app marketplace is weighted to lead sources, naming Angi, Thumbtack, Yelp and Google Local Services.

The alternatives, and why they are here

Selected on capability and use case rather than on sharing a category label. Each entry says what actually differs.

Jobber

Jobber

View profile

Cloud home-service and trades software combining quoting, scheduling, dispatch, a client portal, invoicing and payments for small contractors. Fully published self-serve pricing from 29 per month and a documented GraphQL API.

Why consider it: The closest alternative and cheaper at entry, 29 per month for Core with 1 user billed annually. Jobber also supports Xero, which Housecall Pro does not list at all, and documents a real GraphQL API. Its offline status is unresolved on its own sources, so it is not an upgrade on that front.

FieldPulse

Flicent Inc.

View profile

Cloud field service management for US residential trades contractors and franchises, with the most mechanically specific offline mode among the small-contractor products here. Seat-based pricing, quote only.

Why consider it: The clear upgrade if offline matters. Housecall Pro states editing without cell service or WiFi is not supported; FieldPulse states the app switches to offline mode by itself and saves entries locally until signal returns. Comparable residential trades footprint with maintenance agreements and a customer portal. Quote-only.

FieldEdge

Xplor Technologies

View profile

Cloud field service software for multi-truck SMB and mid-market trades contractors, built around real-time two-way QuickBooks sync. Owned by Xplor Technologies. Quote-only pricing and no free trial, stated by the vendor.

Why consider it: For multi-truck businesses rather than owner-operators, with real-time two-way QuickBooks sync covering Desktop and Online against Housecall Pro one-way sync to Desktop only. Service agreements are properly built out. Nothing is published on price and there is explicitly no free trial.

Service Fusion

Service Fusion

View profile

All-in-one cloud field service management for small and mid-sized service businesses, distinguished by flat-rate pricing with unlimited users. Published prices from 208 per month billed annually.

Why consider it: A flat-rate alternative with unlimited users on every tier, which changes the maths against paying 35 per month per additional user above 8 on Housecall Pro Max. Published pricing, but service agreements are absent from its tier matrix, which is a real gap for maintenance-plan businesses.

Zuper

Zuper Inc.

View profile

Cloud field service management for small and mid-size service contractors, positioned around AI agents. Notable for the widest named integration surface among the small-contractor products here, including both QuickBooks and Xero. No pricing page exists.

Why consider it: Worth a look specifically if your accounting is Xero, which Housecall Pro does not list, or if you want a portal exposing contracts and assets as well as jobs. Caveats are significant: no pricing page exists at all, and its offline claim is a navigation label with no description behind it.

What this page is not

This is not a ranking and there is no single best alternative. The right choice depends on what you are replacing and why, which is why each entry states a specific reason rather than a score. Capability values come from each product's structured profile, where anything unverified is labelled as such rather than assumed.
