What it is

The name has changed and buyers should know it. What most of the market still calls Salesforce Field Service is marketed by Salesforce as Field Service and Operations. The path was Field Service Lightning, then Salesforce Field Service, then Agentforce Field Service and Operations at Dreamforce in October 2025, then the current name once the Agentforce prefix was dropped. Salesforce has not fully caught up with itself: its Help article still carries the Agentforce-prefixed title, and the consultant certification was renamed to the Agentforce form in July 2026. Expect both names in RFPs, training material and partner collateral for some time.

This is enterprise FSM, not trades software, and its commercial model is the most transparent of any enterprise product in this category. Salesforce publishes full list pricing in six currencies with explicit currency labelling, across seven Enterprise Edition lines. Dispatcher and Technician are each 175 per user per month billed annually. Frontline Workforce Management is 30. Contractor Plus is 80 per user per month or 32 per login. Bundles run 250 for Field Service Plus Core, 450 for Advanced and 650 for Field Service Max. Unlimited Edition raises Dispatcher and Technician to 330 each. A realistic dispatcher plus technician pairing is 350 per user per month at list before add-ons.

Functionally it covers the full loop: create, assign, execute and debrief work orders; a unified dispatch workspace; AI-powered scheduling and route optimisation on the Dispatcher licence; quoting and payment collection in the field; and a mobile app for Android and iOS that Salesforce describes as offline-first with access to thousands of records without a connection. That offline claim is marketing-grade only, because help.salesforce.com renders as a JavaScript shell to automated access and the Field Service developer guide returned 403, so no documented offline limitations could be read.

  • Genuine shift workforce management as a priced SKU. Frontline Workforce Management at 30 per user per month covers planning, scheduling and managing shift workers. No other product in this category sells rostering as a discrete line.
  • Parts management is an add-on. Inventory Allocation and Inventory Search and Transfer are listed as available for purchase, not included.
  • Agentic scheduling is metered. The Scheduling Agent consumes Flex Credits on the per-seat licences. Core includes 500K, Advanced 1M and Max 2.75M per org.
  • The advertised free trial is of Service Cloud, not this product. Salesforce offers 30 days of Service Cloud with no credit card. It does not advertise a trial of Field Service and Operations.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

CapabilityStatusNotes
Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. Yes Weak source. The product-page FAQ references APIs for custom integrations. The authoritative Field Service developer guide returned 403, so this is marketing-level evidence. source
Workforce and crew management Timesheets, crews, certifications and workforce administration. Yes Frontline Workforce Management is a named SKU at 30 per user per month for shift work. source
Quoting and estimating Producing quotes and estimates for customer work. Yes Create quotes and collect payment in the field. source
Parts and inventory Parts consumption, van stock and inventory tracking. Yes Inventory Allocation and Inventory Search and Transfer are flagged available for purchase, so this is an add-on rather than an included capability. source
Work order management Work order lifecycle from request to completion. Yes Create, assign, execute and debrief work orders. source
Service contracts and agreements Recurring service agreements, entitlements and renewals. Yes Service Contract Management appears in the feature matrix; per-edition inclusion is unclear. source
Offline working Creating and completing work with no connectivity, and syncing on reconnection. Yes Vendor marketing calls the app offline-first with thousands of records available without internet, and the pricing page Technician line states work orders can be viewed and updated offline. No contradiction found, but this is marketing-grade evidence only: help.salesforce.com renders as a JS shell and the developer guide returned 403, so no documented offline limitations could be read. source
Technician mobile app A dedicated mobile application for field technicians. Yes Android and iOS. source
Route optimisation Optimising travel between jobs across a working day. Yes Included in the Dispatcher licence as AI-powered scheduling and route optimisation. source
Scheduling and optimisation Scheduling work against availability, skills and capacity. Yes AI-powered scheduling and optimisation. The Scheduling Agent consumes Flex Credits. source
Dispatch and assignment Assigning jobs to technicians and managing the dispatch board. Yes Unified dispatch workspace in the console; a dedicated Dispatcher licence exists. source
SLA management Measuring response and resolution against service levels. Not verified The page mentions compliance with service level agreements but documents no SLA or entitlement management feature.
GPS and vehicle tracking Vehicle or technician location tracking. Not verified Real-time visibility and asset tracking are stated; GPS technician tracking is not.
Invoicing and payments Invoicing from completed work and taking payment. Not verified In-field payment collection is stated; invoicing is not.
Customer portal A portal for customers to log and track jobs. Not verified Appointment Assistant provides customer self-service booking and rescheduling, but Salesforce does not describe it as a portal. Not stretched into a yes.

Published priceUSD 30 per user per month, billed annually (Frontline Workforce Management)
NoteCURRENCY IS STATED, not inferred: the page prints USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, JPY and SEK explicitly, which is unusual and welcome. The 30.00 figure above is the lowest published line, Frontline Workforce Management. The functional entry point for field service is higher: Dispatcher 175 and Technician 175 per user per month billed annually, so a working pair is 350 at list. Contractor Plus is 80 per user per month or 32 per login. Bundles are Field Service Plus Core 250, Advanced 450 and Field Service Max 650. Unlimited Edition raises Dispatcher and Technician to 330 each. Annual contract required. Inventory features are available for purchase separately. The advertised 30-day free trial is of Service Cloud, NOT of Field Service and Operations, so free_trial is recorded unknown for this product specifically.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Full list pricing published across seven editions in six explicitly labelled currencies, the most transparent enterprise FSM pricing found in this category. verified source
  • Shift-based Frontline Workforce Management sold as its own 30 per user per month SKU, the only product in this category with rostering as a discrete priced line. verified source
  • In-field quoting and payment collection are stated capabilities, closing the loop from dispatch to cash without a separate tool. verified source

Limitations

  • Inventory Allocation and Inventory Search and Transfer are listed as available for purchase rather than included, so parts management is an extra cost. verified source
  • Agentic scheduling is metered: the Scheduling Agent requires Flex Credits on the per-seat licences, so AI scheduling is a consumption cost, not a flat feature. verified source
  • Naming is inconsistent on Salesforce own properties: marketing says Field Service and Operations while the Help article still says Agentforce Field Service and Operations. verified source
  • The offline-first claim could not be checked against documented limits because Salesforce own help and developer documentation refuse automated access. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

Good fit: organisations already running Service Cloud, where the path from a customer record and a case to dispatched field work is shortest. Also the strongest fit in this category where the same workforce is both rostered and dispatched, because Frontline Workforce Management handles shift coverage as a first-class concern rather than an afterthought. Verticals Salesforce names are telecommunications, utilities and energy, manufacturing, healthcare, HVAC, plumbing and construction.

Poor fit: small contractors, despite Salesforce marketing claiming businesses of all sizes and naming SMB trades. At 175 per user per month for both the dispatcher and the technician, on a required annual contract, with inventory as a paid add-on and AI scheduling metered by credits, the landed cost is far above the trades products profiled in this category. Also a poor fit for buyers who need documented offline limits before signing, since the authoritative Salesforce docs were not readable and the offline-first claim rests on the marketing page.

Typical use cases: telecoms field engineering at scale, utility and energy crew dispatch, manufacturer installed-base service, and large multi-site HVAC or facilities contractors who already treat Salesforce as the system of record. Buyers should budget the Flex Credit consumption of the Scheduling Agent explicitly rather than assuming AI scheduling is included in the seat price.

Alternatives

Dynamics 365 Field Service Microsoft The direct alternative, and cheaper at list: 105.00 per user per month paid yearly against 175 each for Dispatcher and Technician. Microsoft wins on first-party ERP depth through published Business Central table mappings; Salesforce wins on shift workforce management as a priced SKU and on explicitly labelled currencies.
ServiceMax PTC Also built on the Salesforce platform, so your existing admin, security model and ecosystem tooling carry over, but aimed at asset-centric installed-base service for manufacturers and medical device companies. Note that almost every ServiceMax capability is unverified here because ptc.com returns 403 on every path.
Skedulo Skedulo A complement rather than a replacement. If you intend to keep Salesforce as the system of record but only need scheduling, dispatch and mobile execution on top, Skedulo ships a Salesforce managed package and costs a scheduling layer rather than a full field service suite. It does not bill your customers.
ServiceNow Field Service Management ServiceNow The alternative when the natural home for field work is the ITSM platform rather than the CRM. Its weighted multi-criteria Dynamic Scheduling and documented offline limits are both more transparent than the Salesforce equivalents, whose help and developer docs refuse automated access.
Oracle Fusion Field Service Oracle For large routing-heavy field organisations on Oracle Fusion. Its public routing REST endpoints cover profiles, plans, runs, rollback and run reports, which is deeper external optimiser control than Salesforce documents publicly. No published price.

Frequently asked questions

Salesforce markets it as Field Service and Operations. It was Field Service Lightning, then Salesforce Field Service, then Agentforce Field Service and Operations from October 2025, then the current name. Salesforce own help documentation still shows the Agentforce-prefixed name, so both are in circulation and you will see both in partner and training material.

Published list, per user per month billed annually on Enterprise Edition: Dispatcher 175, Technician 175, Frontline Workforce Management 30, Contractor Plus 80 or 32 per login. Bundles are 250 for Core, 450 for Advanced and 650 for Field Service Max. Unlimited Edition raises Dispatcher and Technician to 330 each. Salesforce labels currencies explicitly in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, JPY and SEK. Inventory features cost extra and AI scheduling consumes Flex Credits.

Not of this product. Salesforce advertises a 30-day free trial of Service Cloud with no credit card required, which is a different product. No trial of Field Service and Operations specifically was found, and no free version exists.
