What it is

On ownership: BigChange is part of the Simpro Group. BigChange own about page carries a news banner stating that BigChange joins the Simpro Group family and body text stating that BigChange is part of the global Simpro Group, which it says also includes AroFlo, ClockShark and Simpro. The acquisition was announced on 25 October 2024, per BigChange own readable blog post on the deal, corroborated by Yorkshire trade press three days later. The prior owner was Great Hill Partners, which invested in 2021 and, per its own announcement, made a partial sale to Simpro Group while retaining a minority stake. Terms were not disclosed. Note that Simpro itself is separately profiled in this category: both are separately marketed products with their own sites and buyers.

BigChange is distinctly UK and Europe centric and notably vehicle-tracking-led. It was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Leeds, the homepage is explicitly UK-aimed with UK-based round-the-clock support, and feature pages use UK English spelling. The footer lists the UK, France, United States, Cyprus, New Zealand, Australia and Canada, though without explaining whether those are offices or markets. The platform combines CRM, job scheduling, digital job cards and worksheets, live fleet tracking, financial management and invoicing, asset management, subcontractor management and payments, with an AI layer called BigChange Lightning. AI dash cams, fleet and fuel cards are sold as add-ons.

Two capabilities are better evidenced here than anywhere else in this tier. Route optimisation is described mechanically: BigChange states it calculates the most efficient order for jobs based on location, traffic, engineer skills and vehicle equipment, and that route optimisation runs automatically whenever you schedule or reschedule jobs. Offline is equally unambiguous: the field service app works offline, with the stated offline scope being view schedule, access job details, complete forms, capture photos and collect signatures, and automatic sync once the device reconnects to WiFi or mobile data. There is also a genuine developer portal with a REST API reference and event-driven webhooks.

  • No price and no currency are published. The pricing page offers only a Request pricing button with no per-user or per-device wording. The only pound sign on the page is a marketing return-on-investment claim, which is not a price and is not recorded as one.
  • Only two accounting integrations are named, Xero and Sage, with no QuickBooks. The Sage reference does not say which Sage product.
  • Inventory and stock control are not named features on the features or integrations pages, which is a notable gap for a parts-carrying trade.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

CapabilityStatusNotes
Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. Yes A genuine BigChange Developer Portal with a REST API reference, plus Data as a Service. The vendor REST API page states the portal includes full API documentation. source
GPS and vehicle tracking Vehicle or technician location tracking. Yes Live fleet tracking, plus a customer tracking link showing their engineer current location and estimated arrival time. Vehicle-tracking-led positioning confirmed. source
Invoicing and payments Invoicing from completed work and taking payment. Yes Invoice and billing software. source
Quoting and estimating Producing quotes and estimates for customer work. Yes Professional quotes and proposals that customers can accept online. source
Work order management Work order lifecycle from request to completion. Yes Every job is managed step by step with custom worksheets and workflows that let you mandate each process. Digital job cards are a named feature. source
Customer portal A portal for customers to log and track jobs. Yes Customers can book work, follow progress and retrieve job cards. source
Offline working Creating and completing work with no connectivity, and syncing on reconnection. Yes UNAMBIGUOUS AND SCOPED. BigChange states plainly that the field service app works offline, and that once the device reconnects to WiFi or mobile data all updates sync automatically with the office system. Stated offline scope: view schedule, access job details, complete forms, capture photos and collect signatures. The features and job scheduling pages do not mention offline, but that is silence rather than contradiction, so this is recorded yes. source
Technician mobile app A dedicated mobile application for field technicians. Yes The BigChange mobile app puts everything at engineers fingertips. source
Route optimisation Optimising travel between jobs across a working day. Yes BEST-EVIDENCED ROUTE OPTIMISATION IN THIS TIER. BigChange states it calculates the most efficient order for jobs based on location, traffic, engineer skills and vehicle equipment, and that route optimisation runs automatically whenever you schedule or reschedule jobs. The job scheduling page separately states automatic route optimisation for maximum efficiency. source
Scheduling and optimisation Scheduling work against availability, skills and capacity. Yes Drag jobs onto the team calendar and watch them appear instantly on mobile devices. source
Dispatch and assignment Assigning jobs to technicians and managing the dispatch board. Yes Dispatch the closest engineer immediately. source
Workforce and crew management Timesheets, crews, certifications and workforce administration. Not verified Asset management and subcontractor management exist as named features, but no time-tracking, rostering or crew-management module was verified.
SLA management Measuring response and resolution against service levels. Not verified SLA is absent from every page opened.
Parts and inventory Parts consumption, van stock and inventory tracking. Not verified Not mentioned on the features or integrations pages. A notable gap for parts-carrying trades, but recorded unknown rather than as a verified absence.
Service contracts and agreements Recurring service agreements, entitlements and renewals. Not verified Not verified on the vendor site.

NoteQuote-only, and notably NO CURRENCY IS PUBLISHED EITHER. The pricing page offers only a Request pricing button routing to a demo, with no per-user or per-device wording at all, so the licensing model itself is unknown. The page separates features included in all plans, namely CRM, job scheduling, mobile app and live tracking, from separate paid extras including AI dash cams, fleet and fuel cards, all unpriced. GBP CHECK: BigChange does not print a price in pounds or any other currency. The only pound sign on the page is a marketing return-on-investment claim about savings per pound spent, which is NOT a price and must not be recorded as one. No free version or trial is mentioned, so both are unknown.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Unambiguous offline mobile working with a named offline scope covering schedule, job details, forms, photos and signatures, and automatic sync on reconnection. verified source
  • Automatic route optimisation factoring location, traffic, engineer skills and vehicle equipment, re-run on every schedule or reschedule. verified source
  • A genuine developer portal with a REST API reference plus event-driven webhooks. verified source
  • Integrated vehicle tracking as a first-class capability rather than a third-party telematics partnership, including a customer-facing engineer location and ETA link. verified source

Limitations

  • Only two accounting integrations are named, Xero and Sage, with no QuickBooks, and the Sage reference does not specify which Sage product. verified source
  • No price and no currency are published at all, despite a UK self-serve-looking funnel, and no per-user or per-device licensing basis is stated. verified source
  • Inventory and stock control are not named features on the features or integrations pages, a gap for parts-carrying trades. verified source
  • UK-centric support and positioning make it a weaker fit for US or Gulf buyers, despite the multi-country footer list. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Small, Medium

Good fit: UK and European field service and mobile-workforce contractors, small through mid-size, especially those for whom the vehicle is central to the operation. Integrated vehicle tracking as a first-class capability rather than a third-party telematics partnership is the clearest differentiator, and the add-on AI dash cams, fleet and fuel cards extend that. It is the best-evidenced choice in this tier for genuine offline working and for automatic route optimisation that accounts for engineer skills and vehicle equipment as well as location and traffic. Xero and Sage users are well served, and the developer portal with REST plus webhooks supports real integration work.

Poor fit: US and Gulf buyers, despite the multi-country footer list, because support and positioning are UK-centric. Also a poor fit for QuickBooks-centric businesses, since QuickBooks is not named at all, and for parts-heavy trades needing stock control in the field system, since inventory is not a named feature. Buyers who need published pricing will be disappointed: despite a UK self-serve-looking funnel, no figure or currency appears anywhere. Service contracts and SLA management are both unverified, so contract-driven maintenance businesses should probe those specifically.

Typical use cases: UK mobile engineering and maintenance operations with van fleets; multi-engineer contractors needing customer-facing arrival tracking links; businesses running significant subcontractor networks, which BigChange handles as a named feature; and operators wanting fleet compliance and job management in one system rather than two.

Alternatives

Simpro Simpro Group A sister brand in the same Simpro Group, separately marketed, and the better fit for project and contract work with progress billing and retention plus inventory, which is not a named BigChange feature. Its public record is far thinner, because simprogroup.com returns 403 on every path.
ServiceTrade ServiceTrade, Inc. The alternative for commercial contractors needing a documented public REST API and the deepest ERP list in this group, including NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Dynamics 365, Acumatica and Viewpoint Vista, plus fire protection compliance integrations. Offline is absent from its vendor story, so you would be giving that up.
Praxedo Praxedo A European scheduling-led alternative with published list prices from 39 per user per month, a named ERP and accounting connector catalogue and two customer portals. Position it as a layer beside your finance system rather than as a full replacement for the BigChange platform.
FieldPulse Flicent Inc. For US residential trades rather than UK contractors, and the other product in this tier with genuinely documented offline behaviour. QuickBooks rather than Xero and Sage, maintenance agreements included, and pricing is seat-based and quote-only.
ServiceTitan ServiceTitan, Inc. A much broader platform if you need inventory, purchasing, job costing, payroll and service agreements in one system, with audited public filings. The trade-off is geography: ServiceTitan is US-centric where BigChange support and positioning are UK-centric.

Frequently asked questions

BigChange is part of the Simpro Group, alongside AroFlo, ClockShark and Simpro. The acquisition was announced on 25 October 2024. The prior owner was Great Hill Partners, which had invested in 2021 and made a partial sale to Simpro Group while retaining a minority stake; terms were not disclosed. So BigChange sits under Simpro Group with Great Hill still holding a minority position.

Yes, and BigChange states it plainly along with the scope: engineers can view their schedule, access job details, complete forms, capture photos and collect signatures offline, and all updates sync automatically once the device reconnects to WiFi or mobile data. This is the clearest offline statement in its tier.

Yes. BigChange runs a Developer Portal with a REST API reference and Data as a Service, and separately states that it supports event-driven webhooks with real-time webhook delivery.
