MEX
by TMA Systems
Australian-built CMMS, now owned by TMA Systems, covering asset registers, work orders and requests, time and usage-based PM, spare parts, inspections and prestarts, with 200 reports and 99 KPIs.
What it is
MEX is a mature, conventional CMMS with the deepest reporting library in this directory: over 200 standard reports and 99 KPIs out of the box, covering costs, asset performance and audit readiness. For an organisation whose problem is evidencing maintenance performance rather than building dashboards, that is a substantial head start.
It is also unambiguous about offline, which sounds minor until you compare it with the rest of this group: "MEX Apps can be used online or offline", with barcode and RFID scanning and paperless prestarts and inspections. Three other products here contradict themselves on exactly that point.
Ownership changed in October 2024, when TMA Systems acquired Maintenance Experts Pty Ltd and retained the MEX brand, with expansion into North America following. The centre of gravity remains Australia and New Zealand, which shows in the vertical list: mining, ports and marine, aged care, breweries and wineries.
Capabilities
Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.
| Capability | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Work order management Creation, assignment, approval and closure of work orders. | Yes | Create, assign and complete jobs, with work orders creatable in the mobile apps and raised automatically by inspections. Separate work request management for logging requests. source |
| Preventive maintenance scheduling Calendar, meter and usage-based schedule generation. | Yes | Schedules by time or usage with trades and parts assigned, and automatic scheduling. source |
| Mobile technician app A native mobile app for technicians, with offline capability where stated. | Yes | MEX Apps can be used online or offline, with barcode and RFID scanning and paperless prestarts and inspections. The clearest offline statement of any product in this group. source |
| Spare parts and inventory Storerooms, stock levels, reorder points and parts issued to work orders. | Yes | Spare parts, tools and materials tracked in real time, with automated restocking. source |
| Procurement and purchase orders Purchase requisitions and purchase orders raised inside the system. | Yes | Inventory control including automated restocking and purchase orders. Noted on the home page rather than the product page. source |
| Asset lifecycle and cost tracking Cost accumulated against an asset from acquisition through to retirement. | Yes | Costs tracked and assets managed across their full lifecycle from acquisition to disposal, with 99 KPIs covering costs. Lifecycle costing is not used as a named discipline. source |
| Multi-site operation Multiple facilities, plants or sites in one instance with separable data. | Yes | All facilities in one database with drill-down into each site, plus a dedicated multi-site management feature and an admin control centre. source |
| IoT and BMS integration Sensor, condition or building-management-system data reaching the system. | Yes | Asset readings record equipment readings and usage for condition-based planning, with SCADA and telematics integrations including Visionlink, Teletrac Navman and CAT machine health. The vendor does not use the words IoT or BMS. source |
| Maintenance KPI reporting MTBF, MTTR, downtime, schedule compliance and maintenance cost reporting. | Yes | Over 200 standard reports and 99 KPIs covering costs, asset performance and audit readiness, plus natural-language report building. source |
| Asset register and hierarchy Parent-child asset structure with locations and equipment, not a flat list. | Not verified | |
| Predictive or condition-based maintenance Condition monitoring or failure prediction functions in the product itself. | Not verified | |
| Contractor management External contractors and vendor workflows, not just internal technicians. | Not verified | |
| Documented API A publicly documented API, which is what makes every other integration possible. | Not verified |

| Published price | AUD 1,080 per named user per year (MEX Advanced, starting at) |
| Note | MEX publishes 1,080 per named user per year for MEX Advanced, 1,200 for Professional and 1,380 for Enterprise, all stated as "starting at", read on 7 November 2026. It is the only vendor here publishing a per-named-user annual rate. The page prints "$" with no currency code; AUD is inferred from the vendor being Brisbane-based and is not a vendor statement, so verify the currency before budgeting. Third-party listings give figures that conflict both with each other and with the vendor page, and we have not used them. |

Prices move and discounting is common. Treat anything here as a starting point and confirm with the vendor before budgeting.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Reporting depth unmatched here: over 200 standard reports and 99 KPIs out of the box, covering costs, asset performance and audit readiness. verified source
- Unambiguous offline mobile, with barcode and RFID scanning and paperless prestarts and inspections in the field. Several competitors here contradict themselves on this point; MEX does not. verified source
- Publishes a per-named-user annual rate for all three tiers plus a free trial, the only vendor here to publish a per-user rate rather than caps or quote-only. verified source
- Scale and continuity since the TMA Systems acquisition in October 2024: brand retained, version 16 shipping and expansion into North America. verified source
Limitations
- No public developer or API documentation. API connectivity is asserted only as a generic "APIs and an open data framework" with no named REST API, endpoints or developer portal, and the product page omits an API entirely. verified source
- The narrowest pre-built integration catalogue in this group at seven named connectors, with no Oracle, no Dynamics or Business Central, no SharePoint and no Excel. verified source
- No building-automation capability: BMS and BAS are absent from the entire site, and condition data arrives only via SCADA and telematics connectors, so fault-driven work order automation from building systems is not addressable. verified source
Who it suits
Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise
A strong fit for Australian and New Zealand operations, and for anyone, anywhere, whose requirement is reporting depth and audit evidence: mining, utilities, ports, manufacturing, food and beverage, aged care and government infrastructure are all named. Reliable offline mobile makes it credible for remote and field-heavy work.
Weaker where integration is central. Seven named connectors, no Oracle, no Business Central, no SharePoint, no Excel, and no named REST API or developer portal, which is the thinnest integration story in this group.

Frequently asked questions
TMA Systems, which acquired Maintenance Experts Pty Ltd on 30 October 2024 and retained the MEX brand. TMA is backed by Silversmith Capital Partners and has stated an intention to build a leading independent global EAM and CMMS provider, including introducing MEX in North America. Version 16 is shipping, so the product is actively developed rather than in maintenance mode.
Almost certainly, but the vendor does not say. The pricing page prints a bare "$" with no currency code, and MEX is Brisbane-based, so we have recorded AUD as an inference and labelled it as one. Confirm the currency before building a budget, particularly if you are buying from outside Australia.
The integrations page claims API-based connectivity in general terms, but no REST API is named, no developer portal exists and no endpoint documentation was found, and the product page does not mention an API at all. So: API connectivity is claimed, documented API is not established. If integration is central to your plan, this is a significant question to settle early.
