Microsoft Places Alternatives
Microsoft Places has one decisive advantage and two recurring reasons people look past it. The advantage is that it is the only product in this category with verified calendar-native booking: Microsoft documents Places features as embedded directly in Teams and Outlook, with desks bookable through Outlook, Teams or the Places app, and the new desk booking experience available in New Outlook and the Teams calendar on Windows and the web. No third-party integration matches that for adoption friction.
The first reason to look elsewhere is licensing, and the detail changed in 2026. Core features such as work plans and workplace presence now ship with a wide range of plans, including Microsoft 365 and Office 365 Business Basic, Standard and Premium, E1, E3 and E5, the Education A-series, frontline F1 and F3, and several Teams plans, so Teams Premium is no longer the general requirement. The exception is the one most buyers care about: Microsoft states that individual desk booking is a premium feature requiring desks to be backed by a space license, with a limited-time allowance for Teams Premium users to book desks not backed by one. Rooms and desk pools carry no such requirement. Microsoft own pricing for that space licence could not be established from published Microsoft sources, so treat it as a separate licence of unpublished cost and get the figure from Microsoft or your reseller before modelling anything.
The second reason is setup effort. Most Places features depend on a fully established hierarchy of buildings, floors, rooms, workspaces and desks, with desks following a strict Building, Floor, Section, Desk structure. Configuration runs through PowerShell cmdlets or the Places management portal, administrators need an Exchange Online licence and PowerShell 7.4.0 or later, each desk gets a mailbox, and booking policies are applied with Set-CalendarProcessing. That is real Exchange administration work, not a configuration wizard, and third-party products are considerably easier to stand up.
Places is also not a space management product. No block and stack planning, space chargeback, BOMA area reporting or move management was found, and visitor management and wayfinding were not documented. If any of those are in scope you need something else alongside or instead, and each alternative below states what does not carry over. One thing no alternative fixes: no vendor in this category, Microsoft included, documents recurring-meeting behaviour, so switching does not buy you a verified recurring-booking claim.

The alternatives, and why they are here
Selected on capability and use case rather than on sharing a category label. Each entry says what actually differs.
deskbird
deskbird
deskbird is desk booking and hybrid work software billed per active user, with published multi-currency rates, native Microsoft Teams and Outlook add-ins, calendar sync, SCIM provisioning, SAML SSO, HRIS integrations and an open API.
Why consider it: The most practical third-party swap when the per-desk space licence or the PowerShell setup burden rules Places out. Published rates from USD 3.75 and EUR 2.75 per active user per month annually, SCIM provisioning, SAML 2.0 and FIDO2 SSO, named HRIS integrations, native Teams use and a Microsoft Outlook add-in. What does not carry over is true calendar-native booking: deskbird documents an add-in and calendar sync but does not state that bookings can be created from inside the calendar.

Robin
Robin Powered, Inc.
Robin is workplace management software for booking desks, rooms, lockers and parking, with floor plans, hybrid team-day policies, visitor management, wayfinding, workplace analytics and Microsoft 365 and Google Calendar integration.
Why consider it: The strongest third-party Microsoft story, naming Outlook and Teams explicitly, plus capabilities Places does not document: lockers and parking, visitor management, wayfinding, floor plans, forecasting analytics and device monitoring with calendar health alerts for room display fleets. What does not carry over: booking is an integration rather than embedded in Outlook and Teams, no Microsoft 365 entitlement covers it so it is net new spend, and Robin publishes no pricing and bills annually only.

Eptura Engage
Eptura
Eptura Engage is the desk and meeting room booking product formerly sold as Condeco. It covers AI-assisted booking, interactive floorplans, hybrid work schedules, wayfinding, visitor registration and workplace analytics, delivered through an employee app and Microsoft workflows.
Why consider it: A credible enterprise alternative if room estate management is the real problem: Android room screen applications, interactive floorplans, administrator-set hybrid schedules, wayfinding, visitor registration, multi-location office management and workplace analytics, plus a dedicated Eptura Engage for Microsoft Teams app. What does not carry over: Eptura describes Microsoft support only as integrating with Microsoft workflows, so calendar-native booking is unverified, and nothing is priced publicly.

Envoy Workplace
Envoy
Envoy Workplace is a modular workplace platform covering desk, room and parking reservations, interactive live maps, visitor and contractor management, deliveries, room displays and workplace analytics, with per-module published pricing.
Why consider it: Much lighter to stand up than the Places building, floor, section and desk hierarchy, and budgetable from the website: per-module USD prices with Reservations at USD 5 per bookable resource per month annually, plus a free Visitors Basic plan. Adds visitor and contractor screening Places does not document. What does not carry over: booking is integrated rather than embedded, Outlook is not named by product, and module prices exclude an undisclosed platform fee.

Kadence
Kadence
Kadence is an AI-assisted workplace operations platform sold in WorkOps and SpaceOps product lines, covering booking, visitor management, move management, stack and scenario space planning, HRIS integration and workplace insights, billed per active user.
Why consider it: Worth a look if space planning is in scope, which Places does not cover: SpaceOps brings stack and scenario planning to seat level with plans publishable into booking, plus Move Manager, visitor management and HRIS integration. Active-user billing suits uneven attendance. What does not carry over: Outlook is not named in the Kadence Microsoft evidence, only Teams and Slack, nothing is priced publicly, there is no trial, and a one-year annual minimum applies.

What this page is not
This is not a ranking and there is no single best alternative. The right choice depends on what you are replacing and why, which is why each entry states a specific reason rather than a score. Capability values come from each product's structured profile, where anything unverified is labelled as such rather than assumed.
