Epicor Prophet 21
by Epicor
Epicor distribution ERP, commonly called P21. Current and actively released, but Epicor has set 2028.1, tentatively May 2028, as the final on-premises feature release, with Active Support ending 30 June 2029 and innovation moving exclusively to Epicor Cloud.
What it is
Prophet 21 is current, and Epicor has published when its on-premises version stops gaining features. In a press release dated 6 January 2026, Epicor set out the schedule of final on-premises feature releases for Kinetic, Prophet 21 and BisTrack. For Prophet 21 the final on-premises release is 2028.1, tentatively scheduled May 2028, with Active Support for release 2028.1 through 30 June 2029 and Sustaining Support beginning 1 July 2029. Epicor states that these releases mark the transition of future innovation for these platforms exclusively to the Epicor Cloud. Note that the Prophet 21 support window closes six months earlier than Kinetic's, which ends 31 December 2029, so distributors have slightly less runway than manufacturers.
That release also settles the question the first research pass could not: Prophet 21 is a current, separately named Epicor product on an active release schedule, named in the same breath as Kinetic and BisTrack. Epicor describes the platforms collectively as helping companies in the make, move and sell industries thrive. Prophet 21 is the move part of that phrase, the wholesale distribution line, as distinct from Kinetic for manufacturing. Separately, a search result from Epicor's own blog indicates a Prophet 21 2026.1 release became generally available on 2 June 2026; that page could not be opened, so it is reported as an indication of an active release cadence rather than as a verified fact.
Functionality remains unverified because the vendor site is closed. epicor.com returned HTTP 403 Forbidden on every path tried, docs.epicor.com does not resolve as a hostname, the Australian regional site failed its TLS handshake, and businesswire.com returned 403 on the release itself, which had to be read through a syndicated republication that labels it a paid press release with Epicor as the source. No User-Agent was spoofed and no proxy, reader or archive was used. The capability table below is therefore effectively empty.
That gap matters more in distribution than in most segments, because the functional detail that decides a distribution ERP is unglamorous and specific: contract and special pricing agreements, rebate management, lot and serial traceability, multi-warehouse replenishment and transfers, counter and will-call sales, returns, kitting, landed cost, and EDI with named trading partners. None of it could be verified. Treat the absent capability rows as the absence of research, not the absence of function, and drive the evaluation from a written requirement list rather than from a vendor demo.
Capabilities
Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.
| Capability | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile access Mobile application or responsive access for approvals and enquiry. | Not verified | |
| Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. | Not verified | Not verifiable this pass. |
| Reporting and analytics Financial and operational reporting and analytics. | Not verified | |
| Tax and statutory compliance VAT, withholding and statutory reporting, including local regimes. | Not verified | |
| Multi-currency Transacting and reporting in multiple currencies with revaluation. | Not verified | |
| Multi-company consolidation Multiple legal entities with intercompany and consolidation. | Not verified | |
| HR and payroll Employee records and payroll, native or via integration. | Not verified | |
| Project accounting Project costing, work in progress and revenue recognition. | Not verified | |
| Manufacturing and production Bills of material, routings and production orders. | Not verified | |
| Inventory management Stock valuation, locations and movements. | Not verified | Not verifiable: epicor.com returned HTTP 403 on every path. Epicor positions the platforms for the make, move and sell industries and Prophet 21 is its distribution line, but that is positioning rather than a module claim. |
| Purchasing and procurement Requisitions, purchase orders and goods receipt. | Not verified | |
| Fixed asset accounting Asset registers, depreciation and disposal accounting. | Not verified | |
| Accounts receivable Customer invoicing, collections and credit control. | Not verified | |
| Accounts payable Supplier invoices, approvals and payment runs. | Not verified | |
| General ledger Core financial ledger with chart of accounts and journals. | Not verified | Not verifiable. epicor.com returned HTTP 403 and docs.epicor.com does not resolve. |

| Note | No figure recorded. epicor.com returned HTTP 403 Forbidden on every path and docs.epicor.com does not resolve, so it could not be established whether Epicor publishes any list price. licensing_model is recorded as commercial, which is safe given Epicor sells both on-premises releases and an Epicor Cloud subscription. The published shift to cloud-only innovation after release 2028.1 has commercial consequences worth negotiating up front. No price was taken from a review aggregator. |

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Confirmed as a current, separately named Epicor product rather than a legacy line, named alongside Kinetic and BisTrack in Epicor s January 2026 release schedule announcement. verified source
Limitations
- On-premises Prophet 21 has a published end point, and the shortest runway of the Epicor lines: final on-premises feature release 2028.1 tentatively May 2028, Active Support through 30 June 2029, Sustaining Support from 1 July 2029. verified source
- No functional capability could be verified because epicor.com refuses automated access on every path, which is a particular problem in distribution where rebates, special pricing agreements and EDI decide the outcome. editorial
- Because Epicor runs two main ERP lines aimed at different segments, buyers risk being shown the manufacturing product for a distribution requirement or the reverse, and no readable public vendor material distinguishes them beyond the make, move and sell phrasing. editorial

The decisive question is cloud versus on-premises, and Epicor has already answered it for you. If you want cloud distribution ERP, Epicor's stated transition of future innovation exclusively to the Epicor Cloud is a clear signal of where investment goes. If you need on-premises, you are buying a platform whose feature development ends with release 2028.1 in roughly May 2028 and whose Active Support ends 30 June 2029, which is the shortest runway of the Epicor lines. Either way the migration belongs in the business case now. A diligence checklist follows.
- Get the lifecycle dates committed. Epicor calls the 2028.1 dates tentative. Ask for contractual dates, what Sustaining Support from 1 July 2029 includes, and what it costs.
- Price the cloud migration up front, including data migration, any re-implementation of customisations, and the subscription cost, and agree terms before support starts running out.
- Drive the demo from distribution specifics, not a feature tour: contract and special pricing agreements, rebates, multi-warehouse replenishment and transfers, lot and serial traceability, counter and will-call sales, returns, kitting and light assembly, and landed cost.
- Confirm EDI with your actual trading partners by name, including who builds and maintains each map and at what cost, because EDI is where distribution ERP projects most often overrun.
- Confirm the finance modules individually: general ledger, payables, receivables, fixed assets, multi-company consolidation, multi-currency and statutory tax for your countries.
- Confirm the API and the integration method for your ecommerce storefront, warehouse systems and freight carriers.
- Get the full cost including subscription or licence, hosting, support, implementation, EDI setup and renewal uplift.
Distribution-capable alternatives verified in this pass. If you need to compare against publicly readable vendor information, products in this directory with verified distribution relevance include Dynamics 365 Business Central, which Microsoft positions explicitly at wholesale, Acumatica Cloud ERP with a named Distribution edition, Syspro ERP which markets to manufacturing and distribution, Odoo, ERPNext and Priority ERP. Note that Infor CloudSuite Distribution was excluded from this category because Infor markets it as an industry suite delivered through two differently named ERP products rather than as a single product.
On pricing. No figure is recorded. Whether Epicor publishes any list price could not be established. No figure was taken from a review aggregator.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Epicor named Prophet 21 alongside Kinetic and BisTrack in a press release dated 6 January 2026 setting out their final on-premises feature release schedules, which confirms it is a current, actively released product.
With release 2028.1, tentatively scheduled May 2028. Active Support for 2028.1 runs through 30 June 2029 and Sustaining Support begins 1 July 2029. That is six months earlier than the equivalent Kinetic dates. Epicor calls the dates tentative, so get committed dates in writing.
P21 is the common market shorthand for Prophet 21. Epicor s own press release uses Prophet 21.
Because no Epicor product page could be read. epicor.com returned HTTP 403 Forbidden on every path, docs.epicor.com does not resolve, the Australian regional site failed its TLS handshake and businesswire.com returned 403. An empty capability table means no research, not no function.
