What it is

Ownership first, because the public record on this is widely wrong. Acumatica is owned by Vista Equity Partners, which agreed to acquire it from EQT in a deal announced on 29 May 2025 and reported at around 2 billion dollars, with EQT ceasing to be an investor. EQT had owned Acumatica since 2019. A Crunchbase profile still lists EQT as the acquirer and is out of date, and older material tying Acumatica to IFS under EQT ownership describes a superseded arrangement. If you are doing vendor diligence, Vista Equity Partners is the current owner. Acumatica has itself been acquiring, completing the purchase of Vertrax, a cloud ERP and business management provider for fuel and energy distribution, in July 2026.

Why this matters practically: private equity ownership with a fund timetable is a legitimate diligence question for a system you expect to run for a decade. Acumatica has now changed hands twice in six years. That is not a reason to rule it out, but renewal terms, price uplift caps and support commitments are worth getting in writing rather than relying on the current owner's stated intentions.

What the product covers, in Acumatica's own words. The product page names Financial Management described as a full suite of accounting functions and reporting tools, Purchase Order Management for automating and centrally managing global purchasing processes, Inventory Management, Manufacturing Management covering bill of materials, production management and MRP among others, Project Accounting, Payroll Management, Multi-Entity and Intercompany Accounting to streamline accounting and reporting across multiple entities, Reporting, Dashboards and a Data Analysis Toolkit, and Field Service Management. Acumatica describes the product as modern, adaptable cloud enterprise resource planning software. That is a broader verified functional footprint than most products in this category offered up on a single page, and manufacturing in particular is named with specifics rather than gestured at.

Six industry editions. Acumatica names General Business, Manufacturing, Construction, Distribution, Professional Services and Retail editions. For a buyer, the edition is the thing to pin down: the functional scope, the price and the implementation approach all follow from it, and the generic product page tells you little about which edition you need.

The licensing question the page does not answer. Acumatica is well known in the market for licensing by resource consumption rather than per named user, which is a significant structural difference from most competitors and a real advantage for organisations with many occasional users. This pass specifically looked for that statement on the product page and did not find it: the licensing model is not stated there, and no pricing figure is published despite a Pricing section being linked. So the resource based model is not recorded here as verified. If it matters to your business case, and for a company with a large shop floor or field workforce it should, get it confirmed in writing along with exactly what consumption is measured and what happens when you exceed it.

Named integrations on the page are limited to commerce: Acumatica describes native integrations with Amazon, BigCommerce and Shopify. None of those map to the integration slugs used in this directory, so no integration row is recorded, which understates the product's real connectivity.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

NoteNo figure published. The product page links a Pricing section but shows no figures. Notably, the resource-based rather than per-user licensing model that Acumatica is known for in the market was NOT stated on the page read, so it is not recorded as verified here. Confirm the licensing metric and overage terms in writing. No price was taken from a review aggregator.

Prices move and discounting is common. Treat anything here as a starting point and confirm with the vendor before budgeting.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

 • Unusually broad verified functional footprint for the mid-market, with financials, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing including BOM and MRP, project accounting, payroll, multi-entity accounting and field service all named on one product page. verified source
 • Six named industry editions, General Business, Manufacturing, Construction, Distribution, Professional Services and Retail, so the product is pre-shaped to a vertical rather than configured from scratch. verified source

Limitations

 • Ownership has changed twice since 2019: EQT acquired it in 2019 and Vista Equity Partners agreed to acquire it from EQT in May 2025, so renewal and support commitments are worth securing contractually. verified source
 • Multi-currency, tax compliance and any API are not named on the product page, and no pricing or licensing model is published, so international and integration buyers get no help from public material. verified source

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Small, Medium

It fits well when:

 • You are a small or mid-sized company that needs genuine operational breadth rather than finance alone. The verified span across financials, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, project accounting, payroll and field service is unusually complete at this end of the market.
 • You fit one of the six named editions cleanly: general business, manufacturing, construction, distribution, professional services or retail.
 • You have multiple legal entities. Multi-Entity and Intercompany Accounting is a named module, not an upsell hidden in a higher tier as it is with some competitors.
 • You run a project-based business and need project accounting joined to the ledger, which is a named module here.
 • You sell online through Amazon, BigCommerce or Shopify, which are the only named native integrations.
 • You have many light users and can get the resource-based licensing model confirmed in writing, in which case the economics can be markedly better than per-user alternatives.

It fits badly when:

 • You are a large enterprise with heavy multi-country statutory consolidation. Nothing here is positioned at that scale, and multi-currency and tax compliance were not even named on the product page.
 • You need on-premises deployment. Only cloud is indicated, and on-premises is recorded as unknown.
 • Private equity ownership churn is a hard constraint for your procurement. Acumatica has changed owner twice since 2019.
 • You need published pricing to build a case. The page links a Pricing section but shows no figures.

How to run the evaluation. Establish the edition first, then get the licensing model and the consumption metric in writing, then get a full quote covering the edition, every module named in your requirements, implementation, and renewal uplift caps. Confirm multi-currency and statutory tax explicitly if you trade internationally, because neither appears on the product page. And given the ownership history, ask what the support and roadmap commitments are contractually rather than editorially.

Alternatives

Oracle NetSuite ERP Oracle The most common head-to-head in mid-market cloud ERP, described in Oracle documentation as one unified suite encompassing ERP and financials, CRM and ecommerce. netsuite.com returned HTTP 403, so manufacturing and OneWorld multi-entity consolidation are unverified here. Expect a core subscription plus SuiteApps, and cap renewal uplift in the first contract.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Microsoft A close competitor with ten verified capabilities from accessible Microsoft documentation and an explicitly named target segment. Acumatica verifies payroll management, which Business Central does not, since its HR area is employee records and absence registration only. See our comparison.
Syspro ERP Syspro A better fit if manufacturing depth is the deciding factor, with verified bill of materials, MRP, work in progress, product configurator, quality management and engineering change control, plus a complete finance module list and verified tax management. Multi-company, multi-currency, project accounting and any API are not stated on the Syspro site.
Sage X3 Sage A mid-market suite alternative, confirmed current from a Sage-owned source showing Version 12 release information and recent activity. Nothing functional could be verified because sage.com returned HTTP 403 on every path tried, including the regional product capability paths, so the whole functional evaluation falls to the demo.
Odoo Odoo The cheaper, published-pricing alternative for organisations whose requirement is lighter than Acumatica six industry editions imply. A free single-app tier exists, but multi-company and external API access require the Custom plan at 32.00 per user per month annual, so price that from the outset rather than the 16.90 Standard headline.
Priority ERP Priority Software Broad named functional coverage for the mid-market in one product, including verified project accounting, HR and payroll, inventory, reporting and mobile access, with concretely described AI features. Manufacturing is listed as an industry rather than a named module, so production capability is unverified.

Frequently asked questions

Vista Equity Partners. Vista agreed to acquire Acumatica from EQT in a deal announced on 29 May 2025, with EQT ceasing to be an investor. EQT had owned Acumatica since 2019. Sources that still list EQT, including a Crunchbase profile, are out of date.

Yes. Manufacturing Management is a named module covering bill of materials, production management and MRP among others, and there is a dedicated Manufacturing edition.

Not stated on the product page. Acumatica is widely known in the market for licensing by resource consumption rather than per named user, but that claim could not be verified on the page read here, so it is not recorded as fact. Get the licensing metric and overage terms in writing.

Acumatica names General Business, Manufacturing, Construction, Distribution, Professional Services and Retail editions. The edition drives scope, price and implementation, so establish it before comparing anything else.
