Odoo
by Odoo
Modular open-core business suite with a genuinely free single-app tier and published per-user pricing. Multi-company and external API access are reserved for the top Custom plan.
What it is
Odoo is one of the few products in this category that publishes real prices, and the detail of how it packages them is the most useful thing a buyer can know. There are four published tiers. One App Free is listed at US dollars 0 and includes one app with unlimited users on Odoo Online. Standard is listed at US dollars 16.90 and US dollars 21.10 per user per month, the two figures corresponding to the page's yearly and monthly toggle, and includes all apps. Custom is listed at US dollars 32.00 and US dollars 40.00 per user per month and includes all apps plus Odoo Studio, multi-company and external API access. A Light User tier is listed at US dollars 5.90 per user but requires a custom quote through an Odoo Advisor. The currency is explicitly stated as US dollars on the page, printed as the US dollar prefix rather than a bare dollar sign, so it is not an inference here.
Read that packaging carefully, because it is where Odoo evaluations go wrong. Two capabilities that most buyers assume are baseline, multi-company consolidation and external API access, are not in Standard. They are in Custom, which is roughly double the price. Odoo's own FAQ makes the mechanism explicit: installing Studio or adding companies moves an account to the Custom plan. So if you have more than one legal entity, or you intend to integrate Odoo with anything by API, your real price is the Custom tier and you should model it that way from the start rather than being moved onto it later. Similarly, the Standard discount footnote states the discount is valid for 12 months for initial users ordered, which means the headline figure is promotional and the second year costs more. And the Custom plan's price does not include Odoo.sh hosting.
The free tier is genuinely free, which is rare. Odoo's FAQ states that usage of the one app is free for unlimited users forever. That is a free version and not a trial, which is an important distinction: most products in this category offer a time-limited trial and nothing more. The practical use of One App Free is narrow but real, for example running just CRM or just accounting for a very small business, and it is a legitimate way to evaluate the software with real data at no cost. The constraint is equally real: one app only, and the moment you need a second app, or multi-company, or the API, you are on a paid tier.
Licensing model. Odoo operates an open-core model, with a community edition under an open-source licence and a paid enterprise edition, which is why the licensing model is recorded as mixed below rather than as either open-source or commercial. This pass verified the paid tiers from the pricing page but did not open an Odoo licence page, so the specific community licence and the functional differences between community and enterprise are not asserted here. If the open-source route matters to you, verify the licence and the community edition's module coverage directly, because the gap between community and enterprise is substantial and is a frequent source of disappointment.
What else is and is not verified. The pricing page confirms all apps in the Standard and Custom tiers, Odoo Studio for customisation, multi-company, external API access, and Odoo Online and Odoo.sh as hosting options. It does not enumerate individual accounting or manufacturing functions, so the general ledger, payables, receivables, inventory, manufacturing and the rest are recorded as unknown below. Odoo does have apps covering all of those, but this pass did not open the app or documentation pages that would source each one, so none is claimed.
Capabilities
Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.
| Capability | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. | Yes | External API access is listed as a Custom plan inclusion, so it is not available on the Standard plan. source |
| Multi-company consolidation Multiple legal entities with intercompany and consolidation. | Yes | Included in the Custom plan only. Odoo states that adding companies moves an account to the Custom plan, so this is not available on Standard. source |
| Mobile access Mobile application or responsive access for approvals and enquiry. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Reporting and analytics Financial and operational reporting and analytics. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Tax and statutory compliance VAT, withholding and statutory reporting, including local regimes. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Multi-currency Transacting and reporting in multiple currencies with revaluation. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| HR and payroll Employee records and payroll, native or via integration. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Project accounting Project costing, work in progress and revenue recognition. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Manufacturing and production Bills of material, routings and production orders. | Not verified | Odoo has manufacturing apps, but no manufacturing capability statement was sourced in this pass and depth was not assessed. |
| Inventory management Stock valuation, locations and movements. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Purchasing and procurement Requisitions, purchase orders and goods receipt. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Fixed asset accounting Asset registers, depreciation and disposal accounting. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Accounts receivable Customer invoicing, collections and credit control. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| Accounts payable Supplier invoices, approvals and payment runs. | Not verified | Not sourced in this pass. |
| General ledger Core financial ledger with chart of accounts and journals. | Not verified | Odoo has an Accounting app, but the pricing page does not enumerate individual functions and no app or documentation page was opened in this pass to source it. |

| Published price | USD 16.9 per user per month, Standard plan, annual rate |
| Note | Figures read from the Odoo pricing page on 2026-11-07. Currency is explicitly stated on the page as US dollars, printed with a US dollar prefix, so it is not inferred. The recorded 16.90 is the Standard plan annual rate; the monthly rate shown is 21.10. Three important caveats: (1) the Standard discount footnote states it is valid for 12 months for initial users ordered, so the figure is promotional; (2) multi-company and external API access are NOT in Standard, they require the Custom plan at 32.00 annual or 40.00 monthly per user per month, and Odoo states that installing Studio or adding companies moves an account to Custom; (3) Odoo.sh hosting is not included in the Custom plan price. A Light User tier is listed at 5.90 per user but requires a custom quote. The free_version value of yes reflects the One App Free plan, which Odoo states is free for unlimited users forever and is therefore a free version rather than a trial. licensing_model is mixed because Odoo runs an open-core model, but no Odoo licence page was opened this pass so the community licence is not asserted. |

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Publishes real per-user pricing with stated currency, which almost no other vendor in this category does, so a buyer can build a cost model without entering a sales process. verified source
- Offers a genuinely free tier rather than only a trial: Odoo states that the One App Free plan is free for unlimited users forever. verified source
Limitations
- Multi-company and external API access are gated to the Custom plan, roughly double the Standard per-user price, and Odoo states that adding companies moves an account onto Custom. Multi-entity and integration buyers should price Custom from the outset. verified source
- The Standard headline price is promotional: the footnote states the discount is valid for 12 months for initial users ordered, so year two costs more. verified source
Who it suits
Organisation sizes: Small, Medium
It fits well when:
- You are a small or mid-sized company that wants broad functional coverage at a price you can calculate in advance from a public page, which is unusual in this category.
- You want to start narrow and expand. The all-apps Standard tier means adding a module is a configuration decision rather than a new purchase negotiation.
- You have technical capability in house or a good partner, and you value the ability to customise, which Odoo Studio in the Custom tier is designed for.
- You want an open-core option rather than a wholly proprietary system, and you have verified the community edition yourself.
- You genuinely need only one app and zero budget, in which case One App Free is a real option rather than a trial.
It fits badly when:
- You are a single-entity business on the Standard tier who then discovers they need the API. That moves you to Custom at roughly double the per-user cost. Decide this before you buy, not after.
- You are a large enterprise with heavy statutory consolidation and audit requirements. Nothing in the published packaging is aimed at that, and the customisation freedom that makes Odoo attractive at the small end becomes a governance problem at the large end.
- You need complex manufacturing proven before you commit. Odoo has manufacturing apps, but nothing about manufacturing depth was verified in this pass, and a complex manufacturer should test it directly against specialists such as Syspro, QAD Adaptive ERP or Infor CloudSuite Industrial.
- You want a fixed multi-year cost. The Standard discount is stated as valid for 12 months for initial users ordered, so budget for the undiscounted rate from year two.
Practical advice for an Odoo evaluation. Build your price model on the Custom tier if you have more than one company or any integration requirement, use the undiscounted monthly figure for year two onward, add Odoo.sh hosting separately for Custom since the page says it is not included, and get a partner implementation quote separately. The software cost is genuinely low by the standards of this category; the implementation and customisation effort is where Odoo projects actually consume budget, and the ease of customising is precisely what makes that happen.

Frequently asked questions
Partly. The One App Free plan is listed at zero and Odoo states it is free for unlimited users forever, so it is a genuine free version rather than a trial. It is limited to one app on Odoo Online. Beyond that you are on a paid per-user plan.
Odoo publishes Standard at 16.90 US dollars per user per month annually, or 21.10 monthly, for all apps; and Custom at 32.00 or 40.00 US dollars per user per month for all apps plus Odoo Studio, multi-company and external API access. The Standard discount is stated as valid for 12 months for initial users ordered.
Custom. Odoo states that multi-company is a Custom plan inclusion and that adding companies moves an account to the Custom plan. The same applies if you need external API access.
Odoo operates an open-core model with a community edition and a paid enterprise edition, which is why the licensing model here is recorded as mixed. This pass did not open an Odoo licence page, so the specific licence and the functional gap between community and enterprise are not asserted. Verify both directly if the open-source route matters, because that gap is substantial.
