Sage X3

by Sage

Sage mid-market ERP, distinct from Sage Intacct. Confirmed current and actively supported from Sage Community Hub, which shows Sage X3 Version 12 release information and activity days old. Marketing pages on sage.com refused automated access, so capability detail is unverified.

What it is

The name and the status are now confirmed from a Sage-owned source, but the functionality is not. Every attempt to read sage.com returned HTTP 403 Forbidden, including regional paths under en-gb and en-us, so no Sage marketing or product page could be opened. No User-Agent was spoofed and no proxy, reader or archive service was used. Sage Community Hub, which Sage runs on its own domain, was reachable and settles the two questions that matter most for a directory entry.

What the Sage-owned source establishes. The product is still called Sage X3. The Community Hub carries a Sage X3 support group under Sage Global Solutions, welcoming visitors to the Sage X3 Support Group on Community Hub, and it shows a product that is actively supported and actively developed rather than parked: there is an announcement titled Sage X3 Version 12: Latest Release Information, an invitation to help shape the future of Sage X3 by joining the User Research Panel posted one day before this profile was written, upcoming webinars posted four days before, a route to submit product ideas, and live forums. A vendor soliciting user research for a product and running webinars on it this week is not a vendor winding it down. Status is therefore recorded as active.

The naming history is unusually messy and worth knowing. The product has been Sage ERP X3, then Sage X3, then Sage Business Cloud Enterprise Management between roughly 2017 and 2019, then Sage X3 again, with Sage Enterprise Management also used in some regions. One consequence is that third-party research on this product is unusually likely to describe it under a superseded name, and another is that a reseller may use any of them. Confirm the name on the order form. This history is drawn from secondary sources and is offered as a recognition aid rather than as verified fact.

Functionality remains unverified, and that gap is real. Because no Sage product page could be read, the capability table below is empty and no integration or price is recorded. Independent review sites describe general ledger, multi-currency, multi-company, financial management, supply chain, production management with MRP, production scheduling and work orders, and business intelligence, and a Sage product capabilities page exists at a URL that returned 403. None of that is recorded as a capability here, because review-site descriptions are not vendor statements and this directory does not promote them into one.

One thing worth stating confidently. Sage X3 and Sage Intacct are different products, not two names for the same thing, and they are frequently conflated. Sage Intacct has its own profile here and is classified as financial management rather than full ERP. If a reseller proposes a Sage solution without naming the product precisely, resolve that before comparing anything else. Note also that one independent review site observes that Sage investment focus has shifted heavily toward Sage Intacct for cloud financials; that is a secondary claim, not verified, but it is a fair question to put to Sage about the X3 roadmap.

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

 • Confirmed current and actively supported from a Sage-owned source: Sage Community Hub carries a Sage X3 support group with Version 12 release information, a user research panel invitation and webinars posted within days. verified source

Limitations

 • No Sage product page could be read because sage.com refuses automated access on every path tried including regional ones, so the functional scope, deployment model and price remain unverified. editorial
 • The product has been renamed repeatedly, including a spell as Sage Business Cloud Enterprise Management, and is routinely confused with Sage Intacct, which makes secondary research on it unusually unreliable. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium

The product is current, so the question is fit, but the functional evidence needed to judge fit could not be obtained. On the available evidence Sage X3 is the mid-market ERP in Sage's range, above its small business products and aimed at manufacturers and distributors with multi-site and multi-country requirements. That positioning is editorial background rather than a verified vendor statement, and the organisation size targeting below reflects it on the same basis. Rather than offer confident suitability guidance from unverified material, this section sets out what a buyer must establish.

 • Confirm the roadmap, not the status. The status is settled: the product is current and actively supported. The open question is investment. Ask Sage what shipped in the last eighteen months, what is committed next, and how X3 investment compares with Sage Intacct, since one independent review site claims Sage focus has shifted toward Intacct.
 • Confirm which Sage product you are actually being offered. Sage Intacct, Sage X3 and Sage small business products are separate things. Resellers sometimes lead with the brand rather than the product.
 • Confirm the deployment model. Cloud, on-premises and hybrid are all recorded as unknown here. Whether Sage or you operate the platform materially changes cost and staffing.
 • Confirm functional scope module by module for finance, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, project accounting, payroll, multi-company consolidation, multi-currency and statutory tax, naming the countries in scope.
 • Confirm the integration surface, including whether a documented API exists and what it covers.
 • Get the full cost, across licences or subscription, hosting, support, partner implementation and renewal uplift.

Alternatives that could be verified. If you need to make progress now against publicly checkable information, the mid-market ERP products in this directory whose vendor sites were readable in this pass include Dynamics 365 Business Central, Acumatica Cloud ERP, Odoo, ERPNext, Syspro ERP, Infor CloudSuite Industrial and Priority ERP. That is a comment on research transparency rather than on product quality, but public, checkable documentation is itself a reasonable thing to value when you are about to commit to a decade-long system.

On pricing. No figure is recorded and none should be inferred. Review aggregator prices for Sage products were specifically not used.

Alternatives

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Microsoft The most directly comparable mid-market suite, and far better evidenced, with ten capabilities verified from accessible Microsoft documentation. Covered in detail in our Sage X3 versus Business Central article rather than restated here.
Acumatica Cloud ERP Acumatica A mid-market cloud suite with the most checkable functional record in this segment: financials, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing with BOM and MRP, project accounting, payroll and multi-entity accounting all named on an accessible page, plus six industry editions. Licensing metric and pricing are not published.
Syspro ERP Syspro A sharper choice if manufacturing and distribution are your core, with nine verified capabilities including a complete finance module list and bill of materials, MRP, work in progress, product configurator, quality management and engineering change control. Multi-company and multi-currency are not stated on the Syspro site, which matters for international groups.
Oracle NetSuite ERP Oracle A broader cloud suite spanning ERP and financials, CRM and ecommerce according to Oracle documentation. netsuite.com returned HTTP 403, so granular capability including manufacturing and multi-entity consolidation is unverified. Expect a core subscription plus SuiteApps, and negotiate renewal caps in the first contract.
Odoo Odoo The published-pricing alternative for organisations that want to model cost before entering a sales process, with a genuinely free single-app tier. Multi-company and API access require the Custom plan at roughly double the Standard rate, and the Standard discount is valid for only 12 months.

Frequently asked questions

It is current and actively supported. Sage Community Hub, on Sage s own domain, runs a Sage X3 support group carrying Sage X3 Version 12 release information, an invitation to join a User Research Panel to help shape the future of Sage X3 posted a day before this profile was written, and webinars posted four days before. Whether it is being actively invested in versus merely maintained is a fair question to put to Sage.

It is called Sage X3 today. It has carried other names, including Sage ERP X3 and, around 2017 to 2019, Sage Business Cloud Enterprise Management, with Sage Enterprise Management also used regionally. That history comes from secondary sources. Confirm the name on your order form.

No. They are separate Sage products. Sage Intacct has its own profile in this directory and is classified there as financial management rather than full ERP.

Because no Sage page could be read. Publishing a feature list assembled from memory or from review aggregators would be worse than publishing nothing, so the capability table is empty and the status is unknown.
