What it is

Infor M3 is one of the two real products a buyer licenses when they think they are buying Infor CloudSuite Distribution. Infor does not sell a product called CloudSuite Distribution. Its distribution page is titled Infor CloudSuites for Distribution and names two core ERP products inside it: Infor M3 as the enterprise ERP and Infor SX.e as the SMB ERP. So if you are an enterprise distributor being shown CloudSuite Distribution, M3 is the system you will actually be running, and this is the profile to read. SX.e has its own profile here. Insist that any proposal names the core ERP rather than only the CloudSuite, because the two are different systems with different capabilities and different implementation realities.

M3 is not only a distribution product, which is the thing most write-ups get wrong. Its own product page lists ERP solutions for distribution including equipment dealers, fashion and apparel, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing, and chemicals, and says the industrial manufacturing ERP unifies production, planning and quality. That is why this profile is classified as a general ERP suite rather than as a distribution ERP: Infor positions M3 across process manufacturing, fashion and distribution alike. Fashion and food and beverage are the two verticals where M3 has the strongest reputation, because both demand things most ERP handles badly, style colour size matrices in the first case and lot traceability and shelf life in the second.

The internationalisation claim is unusually concrete. Infor states that multiple companies, sites and currencies alongside local regulations are all natively supported, and cites availability in 74 countries. Most vendors in this category gesture at global capability without a number. For a multinational distributor or manufacturer, that specificity is worth something, although you should still get your own countries confirmed by name rather than relying on a count.

Deployment is multi-tenant cloud on AWS. Infor states that Infor M3 is built on AWS, offering a scalable, secure, high-performance ERP delivered as a true cloud solution, running on the Infor Industry Cloud Platform with a multi-tenant architecture. Azure is not mentioned. On-premises deployment is not mentioned either, and given M3's long history there is a substantial installed base running it on customer infrastructure, so a buyer with an existing installation should get the supported deployment models confirmed in writing rather than inferred. Multi-tenancy also bounds customisation, which matters for an estate carrying years of modifications.

Extensibility and what is not stated. Infor describes extensibility through no-code tools, APIs and flexible integrations, and embedded business intelligence with dashboards and reports. The general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, purchasing, project accounting, HR and payroll, tax and mobile access are not named individually on the product page, so all are recorded as unknown below. Inventory is not named as a module either, although the distribution section refers to SKU complexity. No price is published. M3 has a long lineage, originally Movex and then Lawson M3, which is why third-party material appears under several names.

Ownership: Infor has been a standalone subsidiary of Koch Industries since Koch completed the acquisition of the remaining portion of Infor from Golden Gate Capital on 6 April 2020.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

NoteNo pricing figure is published on the product page. The Infor distribution suite page refers to a single flat fee for the Velocity Suite implementation offering but states no amount, and the percentage and dollar figures there are customer outcome claims rather than prices. Third-party sites publish wildly inconsistent figures for Infor products and none was used.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • The most concrete internationalisation claim in this category: multiple companies, sites and currencies plus local regulations natively supported, with availability stated in 74 countries. verified source
  • Genuine vertical breadth from one product, spanning distribution and equipment dealers, fashion and apparel, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing and chemicals. verified source

Limitations

  • Delivered as true multi-tenant cloud on AWS with no on-premises option mentioned, which constrains the deep customisation that long-lived M3 installations often depend on. verified source
  • Buyers routinely meet this product only as CloudSuite Distribution and never learn which core ERP they are being sold, which makes it easy to compare two vendors on the wrong basis. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

It fits well when:

  • You are an enterprise distributor. Infor positions M3 as the enterprise ERP within its distribution suite, with SX.e reserved for SMB, and cites over 4,000 distribution customers across the suite.
  • You are in fashion and apparel, food and beverage, or chemicals. These are named verticals, and they are the ones where M3 earns its place rather than merely competing.
  • You are a process or industrial manufacturer wanting production, planning and quality unified, which Infor states for the industrial manufacturing edition.
  • You are genuinely multinational. Native multiple companies, sites, currencies and local regulations, with availability stated in 74 countries, is the strongest verified claim on the page.
  • You want vendor-run multi-tenant cloud on AWS and can live with the customisation limits that implies.

It fits badly when:

  • You are an SMB. Infor's own structure points you at SX.e instead, and buying M3 for a small requirement means paying for enterprise complexity and an enterprise implementation.
  • You are a discrete engineer-to-order or job-shop manufacturer. Infor has CloudSuite Industrial and Infor LN for that, both profiled here, and M3 is not the right line.
  • You need on-premises deployment. Only multi-tenant AWS cloud is stated.
  • Your evaluation is finance-led. The product page names no accounting module individually, so you will get nothing useful from public material and will be dependent on the sales process.
  • You need published pricing. There is none.

Questions for Infor. Confirm in writing that M3 and not SX.e is the core ERP in your quote, and what the difference means for your requirements. Get the finance module list named individually, since the page only gestures at it. Get your specific countries confirmed for statutory and tax localisation rather than relying on the figure of 74. Establish which deployment models are available to you and, if you run M3 today on your own infrastructure, what the support position and migration terms are. Ask what the APIs actually cover, since they are mentioned but not documented publicly. And ask how multi-tenant extensibility is bounded and what happens to your extensions at upgrade, because that is where cloud ERP programmes in heavily customised estates come unstuck.

Alternatives

Infor SX.e Infor Infor own SMB core ERP for wholesale distribution, named by Infor as the SMB counterpart to M3 in the same distribution suite, with complex pricing models and supplier rebate management named explicitly. Infor publishes no dedicated SX.e product page and a third-party directory calls it discontinued, which contradicts Infor own page and needs resolving before purchase.
Infor LN Infor The other Infor enterprise core ERP, aimed at complex discrete manufacturing in aerospace and defence, automotive and high tech rather than at distribution, fashion and food and beverage. Choose on industry fit, since both are multi-tenant cloud on AWS with no on-premises option mentioned and both leave most finance modules unverified.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud SAP The enterprise suite alternative where finance and statutory consolidation lead. Nothing functional could be verified because sap.com returned HTTP 403 Forbidden and help.sap.com served no document body, so M3 verified 74-country internationalisation claim has no comparable SAP evidence to be weighed against, in either direction.
Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP Oracle An enterprise cloud ERP documented on a quarterly release cadence with 26B, 26C and 26D sets published side by side. oracle.com returned HTTP 403, so no functional capability could be verified, and Oracle brands the documentation Oracle Financials rather than Fusion Cloud ERP, which complicates comparison.
Epicor Prophet 21 Epicor A distribution-specific alternative if wholesale is your core. Evaluate the lifecycle first: final on-premises feature release 2028.1 tentatively May 2028, Active Support through 30 June 2029, Sustaining Support from 1 July 2029, the shortest runway of the Epicor lines. No functional capability could be verified because epicor.com blocks automated access.

Frequently asked questions

No. Infor does not sell a product called CloudSuite Distribution. Its page is titled Infor CloudSuites for Distribution and names two core ERP products inside it: Infor M3 for enterprise and Infor SX.e for SMB. M3 is what an enterprise distributor actually runs.

No. Its product page lists distribution including equipment dealers, fashion and apparel, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing and chemicals, and says the industrial manufacturing edition unifies production, planning and quality.

Not stated. Infor describes M3 as built on AWS and delivered as a true cloud solution on a multi-tenant architecture, and mentions no on-premises option, so that is recorded as unknown rather than unavailable. Confirm with Infor if you have an existing installation.

Infor M3 descends from Movex and then Lawson M3, which is why older third-party material uses those names. The current marketed product is Infor M3.
