What it is

Infor LN is the complex end of Infor's manufacturing ERP range. It is a current, separately marketed product with its own page on infor.com, and it is also the ERP that sits underneath Infor CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise, per Infor's own CloudSuite Industrial page. That dual identity is worth understanding before you start: depending on who you talk to at Infor, the same underlying system may be presented as Infor LN or as CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise. Ask which one is on the order form. The product has a long lineage, having originated as Baan, and that history means you will encounter very old third-party material under several names.

Who Infor says it is for. The page leads with aerospace and defence, saying LN helps those firms manage contracts, quality and multi-tier supply chains, and Infor states that LN supports more than 1,500 discrete manufacturing customers across aerospace and defence, automotive, high tech, industrial manufacturing, and engineering and construction. Production coverage is described in terms of complex production models including configure-to-order, project-based workflows and assembly line production. That combination, long-cycle contract and project work alongside line production, is a genuinely hard requirement and relatively few products serve it well, which is the real reason LN stays on shortlists in those sectors.

What the page confirms and what it does not. Infor states native support for multiple companies, locations, currencies and financial entities, built-in analytics and embedded business intelligence, mobile access, and project-based workflows. Financials are mentioned only in general terms, as end-to-end coverage extending to financials, so the specific accounting modules, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, purchasing, inventory, project accounting, HR, payroll and tax, are not individually claimed and are recorded as unknown below. No API is named. The page carries an FAQ that raises PLM, MES, service and supply chain integration as questions but gives no answers, which is an unhelpful pattern a buyer should note: those are precisely the integrations an aerospace or automotive manufacturer will need, and the vendor page does not commit to anything about them.

Deployment. Infor describes LN as delivered as a true multi-tenant cloud solution on AWS, and does not mention Azure. On-premises deployment is widely reported by third parties but is not stated on the page, so it is recorded as unknown. For a product with LN's installed base this is a live question: many existing customers run it on their own infrastructure, and the terms on which Infor supports that going forward should be confirmed in writing rather than assumed from the installed base.

Ownership. Infor has been a standalone subsidiary of Koch Industries since Koch completed the acquisition of the remaining portion of Infor from Golden Gate Capital on 6 April 2020.

No price is published on the page.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Serves a genuinely hard requirement, supporting configure-to-order, project-based workflows and assembly line production together, with Infor citing over 1,500 discrete manufacturing customers in aerospace and defence, automotive, high tech, industrial manufacturing and engineering and construction. verified source
  • Native multi-company, multi-location, multi-currency and multi-financial-entity support, which suits complex group structures. verified source

Limitations

  • The vendor page raises PLM, MES, service and supply chain integration in its FAQ without answering any of them, and names no API, so integration planning gets no help from public material. verified source
  • It is the wrong product for simple discrete manufacturing, and the overlap with CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise means buyers can easily end up discussing the same system under two names without realising which edition and commercial model they are being offered. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

It fits well when:

  • You are an aerospace, defence, automotive, high tech or industrial manufacturer of real scale. Infor names exactly these sectors and cites more than 1,500 discrete manufacturing customers across them.
  • Your production mixes configure-to-order, long-cycle project work and assembly line manufacturing, which Infor states the product supports together.
  • You run a complex legal entity and currency structure. Infor states native support for multiple companies, locations, currencies and financial entities, which is one of the more concrete claims on the page.
  • You need multi-tier supply chain and contract management alongside quality, which Infor frames as the aerospace and defence use case.

It fits badly when:

  • You are a job shop or a simple discrete manufacturer. Independent commentary describes LN as overkill for that profile and points to CloudSuite Industrial instead, and Infor's own two-edition structure supports that reading. Buying LN for a simple requirement means paying for complexity you will never use and an implementation to match.
  • You are a small business. Nothing here is positioned at that end.
  • Your business is distribution or services rather than manufacturing.
  • You need firm answers on PLM, MES or service integration before signing. The vendor page raises those as FAQ questions without answering them, so get them answered contractually.

Specific diligence for this product. Establish whether you are buying Infor LN or CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise and what the difference is in practice, since Infor presents LN as the ERP inside the latter. Establish the deployment options available to you, because only multi-tenant AWS cloud is stated on the page while on-premises installations are common in the field. Get the financial module list in writing, since the page only gestures at financials. Get the PLM, MES, service and supply chain integration story documented, including whether each is an Infor product, a marketplace add-on or a project. And because this is a long-cycle manufacturing system, ask explicitly about the upgrade path and release cadence under multi-tenancy, since contract manufacturers with validated processes cannot absorb unplanned change.

Alternatives

Infor CloudSuite Industrial Infor The Infor option for small and midsize manufacturers, built on Infor SyteLine rather than LN, with verified manufacturing, inventory, multi-company and reporting and a stated multi-site, multi-company, multi-country story. If you are a job shop or simpler discrete manufacturer, this is the right Infor conversation, because LN is overkill for that profile.
QAD Adaptive ERP QAD A direct enterprise and upper mid-market manufacturing competitor with EDI as a named module rather than an add-on, plus Inventory and Traceability and Quality Management as first-class modules. Owned by Thoma Bravo since November 2021 in a transaction valued at approximately 2 billion dollars, and the pitch now spans Adaptive ERP, Redzone and ChampionAI, which makes scope harder to pin down.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud SAP The enterprise suite alternative if finance and group consolidation matter as much as production. Nothing functional could be verified because sap.com returned HTTP 403 Forbidden and help.sap.com served no document body, so all capabilities are unknown rather than absent and the diligence burden falls entirely on your requirements script.
Infor M3 Infor The other Infor enterprise core ERP, aimed at distribution, fashion, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing and chemicals, with the strongest verified internationalisation claim in this category at 74 countries plus native multi-company, multi-site and multi-currency support. Choose on industry fit, since both are multi-tenant cloud on AWS.
Deltek Costpoint Deltek A better fit if your aerospace and defence work is government contracting rather than volume manufacturing. Native contract accounting with cost segregation, burdening, revenue recognition and indirect rate management plus DCAA audit support, and Costpoint GCCM meets FedRAMP Moderate Equivalency. The page refers to US-only hosting, which can be disqualifying for non-US entities.

Compared with other products

Frequently asked questions

Yes. It has its own current page on infor.com describing it as delivered as a true multi-tenant cloud solution on AWS, and Infor also names it as the ERP behind CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise.

Infor s CloudSuite Industrial page splits the line in two: CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise is built on Infor LN for enterprise buyers, and CloudSuite Industrial for small and midsize businesses is built on Infor SyteLine. LN is the complex, large-scale end; SyteLine the SMB end.

Not stated on the vendor page, which describes multi-tenant AWS cloud only. On-premises installations are commonly reported by third parties, so this is recorded as unknown. Confirm the available deployment models with Infor in writing.

Infor LN descends from the Baan product line, which is why old third-party material uses that name. The current marketed product is Infor LN.
