What it is

Name and ownership both need care here. The company footer reads QAD Inc. and the site title pairs the brand as QAD and Redzone, describing itself as the number one manufacturing platform powered by agentic AI. Redzone appears as a sub-brand, Redzone Connected Workforce. On the page read, the ERP product is called simply Adaptive ERP rather than QAD Adaptive ERP, with the strapline about a new era of ERP moving from a system of record to a system of action. QAD Adaptive ERP remains the name in general market use and is the name recorded here, but a buyer should expect to see Adaptive ERP on vendor material and should confirm the contracted product name. Ownership is Thoma Bravo, which completed its acquisition of QAD in November 2021 in a transaction valued at approximately 2 billion dollars, taking the company private.

The Redzone acquisition has changed what you are buying. QAD now presents three product lines rather than one: Adaptive ERP, Redzone Connected Workforce, and ChampionAI, described as role-based AI agents that execute inside your workflows so your best people focus on the work that matters. Named ChampionAI agents include Lynx, Procurement, Sales, Sourcing, Accounts Payable and Trade Compliance Champions. There is also a Supply Chain line covering global trade compliance, multi-carrier parcel shipping and supply chain planning. For a buyer this is a mixed blessing: the connected workforce and AI pieces address real shop floor problems, but the pitch is now a platform story and it takes effort to establish what is in the ERP licence versus what is a separate product. Get the proposal itemised by product line.

Verified ERP module scope. QAD lists Adaptive ERP modules including Manufacturing, Production Execution, Inventory and Traceability, Quality Management, Supplier Management, Financials, EDI and Enterprise Asset Management. EDI being a named ERP module rather than a third-party add-on is genuinely useful for automotive and consumer products suppliers, where EDI with customers is mandatory and is usually where ERP projects overrun. Inventory and Traceability as a single named module also fits regulated manufacturing well.

Target market. The headline is the number one platform for manufacturers, and the named industries are automotive, industrial manufacturing, consumer products, life sciences, food and beverage, distribution and logistics, and high tech manufacturing. One whitepaper title references mid-market manufacturing. That is a tight, credible focus on regulated and supply-chain-intensive discrete and process manufacturing.

Gaps and cautions. Financials is named as a module but the individual accounting functions, general ledger, payables, receivables and fixed assets, are not, so each is recorded as unknown. Project accounting, HR and payroll, multi-company consolidation, multi-currency, tax compliance, reporting, any documented API, mobile access and all deployment options were not stated on the page read, so all are unknown. The deeper product URL at qad.com/erp and qad.com/adaptive-erp both returned HTTP 404 during this pass, so only the home page could be used, which is why this profile is less detailed than the Syspro one despite both vendors being accessible. The heavy agentic AI positioning should also be tested: ask what is generally available, what each ChampionAI agent actually does in production, what it costs and what data it processes.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • EDI is a named module within Adaptive ERP rather than a third-party add-on, which materially reduces risk for automotive and consumer products suppliers where customer EDI is mandatory. verified source
  • Traceability and quality are first-class named modules, Inventory and Traceability and Quality Management, which suits regulated manufacturing in life sciences and food and beverage. verified source

Limitations

  • Owned by Thoma Bravo since November 2021, when it was taken private in a transaction valued at approximately 2 billion dollars, so private equity holding period is a legitimate diligence question. verified source
  • The pitch has become a three-product platform story spanning Adaptive ERP, Redzone and ChampionAI, and the vendor product pages for the ERP itself were not reachable, so establishing what is actually in scope takes more work than it should. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

It fits well when:

  • You are a mid-market or larger manufacturer in automotive, industrial manufacturing, consumer products, life sciences, food and beverage, distribution and logistics, or high tech. These are the industries QAD names, and automotive and life sciences in particular are where QAD has long been credible.
  • EDI with customers is a hard requirement. EDI is a named Adaptive ERP module rather than something you buy separately and integrate, which is a real advantage for tier one and tier two automotive suppliers.
  • Traceability and quality are regulated obligations rather than nice to haves. Inventory and Traceability and Quality Management are both named modules.
  • Global trade compliance and multi-carrier shipping matter to you, which QAD markets as a distinct supply chain line.
  • You have a frontline workforce problem as well as a systems problem, where Redzone Connected Workforce is relevant, and you are willing to buy two products.

It fits badly when:

  • You are a small manufacturer or a non-manufacturer. The entire product and company positioning is manufacturing, and nothing is aimed at small businesses.
  • You are a project-based or services business. Project accounting is not claimed.
  • You need a clear, simple finance-led evaluation. Financials is a named module but nothing beneath it is detailed publicly.
  • You want a single-product purchase. The current pitch spans Adaptive ERP, Redzone and ChampionAI, so scope and price require unpicking.
  • You need deployment certainty before engaging. Cloud, on-premises and hybrid are all unknown here.

Diligence specific to QAD. Confirm whether you are buying Adaptive ERP alone or a bundle, itemised by product line and by module. Confirm the deployment model and who operates it. Get the financial module list in writing, plus multi-company, multi-currency and statutory tax for your countries. Confirm the EDI module's trading partner coverage by name and who builds and maintains each map. Ask which ChampionAI agents are generally available versus in preview, what they cost and what data they process. And given Thoma Bravo has held the company since 2021, ask about renewal uplift caps and support commitments contractually.

Alternatives

Syspro ERP Syspro A mid-market manufacturing competitor with a much fuller verified record, since syspro.com was accessible: a complete finance module list plus bill of materials, MRP, work in progress, product configurator, quality management and engineering change control. No dedicated QAD ERP product page could be read, so most QAD finance capability is unverified rather than absent.
Infor LN Infor The enterprise alternative for complex discrete manufacturing, with verified configure-to-order and assembly line production, native multi-company, multi-location and multi-currency support, and over 1,500 discrete manufacturing customers cited in aerospace and defence, automotive and high tech. Multi-tenant cloud on AWS, no on-premises option mentioned, and no API named.
Infor CloudSuite Industrial Infor A closer size match for small and midsize manufacturers, with verified manufacturing, inventory, multi-company and reporting and Koch Industries as a strategic industrial parent rather than a private equity holder, which is a relevant contrast given QAD has been owned by Thoma Bravo since November 2021.
Epicor Kinetic Epicor Comparable manufacturing positioning, but the lifecycle question comes first: Epicor has set 2028.1, tentatively January 2028, as the final on-premises feature release with Sustaining Support from 1 January 2030 and future innovation moving exclusively to Epicor Cloud. Functional capability could not be verified because epicor.com blocks automated access.
Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform Rockwell Automation Worth considering alongside rather than instead of an ERP, since Rockwell describes the capabilities to investors as manufacturing execution, quality and supply chain management and names no ERP or finance function. Verified as single-instance multi-tenant SaaS, owned by Rockwell Automation since August 2021. Both Rockwell marketing domains refuse automated access.

Frequently asked questions

Both are in use. On the vendor page read in this pass the product is called Adaptive ERP, while QAD Adaptive ERP is the name in general market use and the one recorded here. The company brands itself QAD and Redzone, with a footer reading QAD Inc. Confirm the contracted product name.

Thoma Bravo, which completed its acquisition of QAD in November 2021 in a transaction valued at approximately 2 billion dollars, taking the company private.

Redzone Connected Workforce is a separate QAD product line focused on frontline manufacturing teams, alongside Adaptive ERP and ChampionAI. It is marketed as its own line, so ask for any proposal to be itemised by product so you can see what the ERP alone covers and costs.

Not stated on the page read, so cloud, on-premises and hybrid are all recorded as unknown. The vendor product pages for Adaptive ERP returned HTTP 404 during this research pass, so only the home page was available.
