MRI Energy Alternatives

If you are searching for eSight Energy alternatives, start with the lineage, because the product you are comparing against has changed hands twice and changed name once. eSight Energy Group Ltd, a UK company founded by Simon Durrant, was sold to the German private equity firm BID Equity in April 2018 and then acquired by MRI Software, completing 2 November 2021. MRI markets the capability as MRI Energy, and the eSight name survives on its site only in the archived acquisition headline. Third party review sites still index it variously under both names, which makes reference checking harder than it should be and is itself one reason buyers look around.

What you would be giving up is specific and significant. MRI Energy has the best documented protocol support of any product reviewed in this category, naming oBIX, Modbus TCP over IP and OPC Historical Data Access explicitly, alongside IoT and building management system connectivity, with PI Historian ingestion evidenced in a case study. For anyone whose hard problem is getting data out of mixed vendor plant, that is the strongest argument in the category, and most competitors publish nothing comparable. It also combines utility bill validation with tenant utility billing, which is what a commercial landlord recovering energy cost actually needs and which pure monitoring platforms do not do. Explicit ISO 50001 and Greenhouse Gas Protocol reporting support is named, specific enough to be useful to a certifying organisation. Verified capability also covers metering, water and gas, carbon reporting, anomaly detection, dashboards and reporting.

The weaknesses are narrower. No API or mobile access statement is published, which raises data portability questions for an otherwise integration friendly product, and is an odd gap given the rest of its material. Benchmarking, emissions scope structure, tariff analysis and demand management could not be verified from published sources. No pricing is published: the page offers a demo booking and an Energy ROI Calculator, which estimates savings rather than cost, so expect enterprise real estate software terms. One technical caveat to carry into any vendor call: OPC HDA is classic OPC rather than OPC UA, so confirm which variant your systems speak before assuming compatibility.

United States based utility bill management and energy, sustainability software vendor. Acquired Wattics in 2022, adding building and device level energy analytics. The vendor website blocked automated access during research.

Why consider it: The stronger choice when the utility bill is a finance problem: bill auditing and approval before payment, campus chargebacks, cost avoidance and an accounting export to the general ledger, plus facility and ENERGY STAR benchmarking support. What does not carry over: no named protocol support at all on the readable pages, no tenant utility billing, and no ISO 50001 or framework level reporting claim.

Spacewell Energy

Spacewell (Nemetschek Group)

View profile

Cloud energy management platform, formerly DEXMA, now part of Spacewell within the Nemetschek Group. Collects 15 minute data, runs AI anomaly detection and benchmarks against a database of more than 50,000 facilities.

Why consider it: Comparable monitoring scope with better published integration surface: REST API, webhooks, BMS and IoT sensor input, mobile access, AI anomaly detection and benchmarking against more than 50,000 facilities. What does not carry over: utility bill management is not advertised, no tenant billing, and water, gas and emissions scope coverage could not be verified from published sources.

Commercial real estate sustainability and operations platform combining utility data collection, shadow metering for tenant consumption, real time equipment monitoring with fault detection, tenant billing and a built in maintenance system.

Why consider it: The closest match for a landlord. Covers metering, utility bills, water and gas, benchmarking, carbon reporting, mobile access and tenant billing, adds shadow metering for tenant controlled consumption and equipment fault detection that works with or without a BMS, plus built in maintenance management. What does not carry over: no named protocols, and the tenant centric design makes it largely irrelevant to industrial, campus and single occupier estates.

EcoStruxure Resource Advisor

Schneider Electric

View profile

Cloud platform from Schneider Electric that aggregates enterprise energy, utility bill, water and sustainability data for analysis, benchmarking and reporting. Sold alongside Schneider energy advisory services.

Why consider it: The enterprise peer, covering bills, metering, water and gas, benchmarking, carbon reporting and anomaly detection in one platform, with energy procurement support that nothing else here offers. What does not carry over: no protocol or integration catalogue is published at all, no tenant billing, and it is normally bundled with Schneider advisory services, which raises the entry cost.

Energy, water, waste and carbon management software with automated utility bill validation, a meter reading mobile app, Scope 1, 2 and 3 tracking and ISO 50001 targeting. Offers a free limited version.

Why consider it: The lighter weight option if the estate is smaller. Bills, metering, water and gas, structured Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon with Greenhouse Gas Protocol methods and real time grid emission factors, ISO 50001 targeting, a native meter reading app and a free limited version to start with. What does not carry over: no named protocols, no tenant billing, and no fault detection, equipment control or demand management.

What this page is not

This is not a ranking and there is no single best alternative. The right choice depends on what you are replacing and why, which is why each entry states a specific reason rather than a score. Capability values come from each product's structured profile, where anything unverified is labelled as such rather than assumed.
