Amazon QuickSight vs Power BI
Usually a question about which cloud you are already in, but the pricing models differ enough that the answer is not always the obvious one.

The products
Amazon QuickSight
Amazon Web Services
AWS's serverless BI service, priced largely on usage and designed to sit close to AWS data sources.
Full profileMicrosoft Power BI
Microsoft
Microsoft's BI platform, combining desktop authoring with a cloud service and an on-premises report server option.
Full profileThe main differences
Pricing shape is the real difference. QuickSight charges readers per session up to a monthly cap, so a large audience that looks occasionally can be dramatically cheaper. Power BI charges per user or by capacity. For a few thousand infrequent viewers this single factor can decide the evaluation.
Authoring depth. Power BI is clearly ahead on modelling, DAX calculations and formatting control. Teams moving from Power BI to QuickSight generally find authoring more constrained.
Operational model. QuickSight is serverless with nothing to size. Power BI capacity needs planning, which is an ongoing administrative task.
Deployment. Power BI can self-host via Report Server; QuickSight is AWS-only with no on-premises option.

Not verified means the capability has not been checked for that product. It does not mean the product lacks it. Blank cells and unverified rows are never counted as a "no".

Read the full assessmentWhich to choose
Choose QuickSight if your data is in AWS, your reader population is large and infrequent, or you want BI with no capacity to manage. The session pricing is a genuine structural advantage, not a discount.
Choose Power BI if you need serious modelling, hold Microsoft licensing, need an on-premises option, or want the larger skills pool.
Model the reader cost against your real usage before deciding. This is one of the few comparisons in the category where arithmetic, rather than preference, often gives the answer.
Frequently asked questions
When readers become daily heavy users, at which point the per-reader monthly cap is reached and the cost converges on a per-seat model. The saving is real for occasional audiences and disappears for intensive ones, so base the comparison on observed usage rather than headcount.
