What it is

IQVISION Supervisor is supervisory software for Trend controller estates, sold under Honeywell Building Automation. It is a Niagara 4 based OEM distribution: the Honeywell datasheet states plainly that IQVISION is a building monitoring and management solution built upon the Niagara 4 Framework, which is Tridium framework. It is definitively software, not a hardware or graphics line: it runs on Windows 11 Professional 64-bit or Windows Server 2022 64-bit, serves HTML5 pages through an embedded Jetty web server, and optionally archives to Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or 2019. It is also the engineering tool for TONN8 and IQX controllers. The Trend IQ-series controllers are a separate hardware line and should not be conflated with it.

The lifecycle position is the most important fact about this product and it is contradictory. Honeywell own US and UK product pages both state that the product has been discontinued and that Honeywell will provide product support until a date, although that date did not render in the fetched page text, so no end-of-support date is published here. No successor is named. Yet Honeywell own current datasheet for IQVISION is issue 24 dated 19 February 2025, covering version 4.14 with IQX and TONN8 support, BACnet Secure Connect, Honeywell Forge cloud connections and a Cyber Security Dashboard, while the web pages describe an apparently older state citing Niagara 4.7 U1. Any buyer must get written lifecycle confirmation from Honeywell or Trend before specifying it.

On capability it is the broadest open-protocol supervisor documented in this research. The standard open driver selection includes BACnet IP and BACnet Secure Connect, EIB and KNX IP, Lon IP, Modbus IP in both master and slave roles, M-Bus IP, SNMP and OPC UA. Operations features are mature: sophisticated alarm processing and routing with an Enhanced Alarm Console, email alarm acknowledgement and push notification to mobile through an Action Management Service, graphs and histories learned from Trend systems, central scheduling and energy management routines, schematic pages, and Healthy Building Dashboard integration, though that dashboard is limited to a maximum of five zones. Enterprise data egress is strong, with optional archival to Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle 11G plus CSV and Excel options.

Security engineering is concrete rather than slogan: a Cyber Security Dashboard, an audit trail of database changes, standard authentication and encryption, optional external LDAP, BACnet Secure Connect, and secure-mode vCNC connections using AES-128 with 2048-bit RSA key exchange when used with IQ4 firmware 3.70 or later or IQ5. The energy story is also documented against standards, with the datasheet citing EN ISO 52120-1 and EN 12098-1 energy performance compliance.

Licensing is tier-based and published as order codes without prices: starter kits from IQV-300 to IQV-150000 by point count, with one million point capacity available on request, Trend point extensions, open-protocol point adders, and TONN8 and IQX node licences up to unlimited. Two useful licensing details: Trend devices and networks are not counted for licensing, and virtual points do not add to the licensable point count. Exceeding the point count requires a paid licence upgrade. Several capabilities, including SQL, MySQL and Oracle archival, the Alarm Portal, CSV and Excel interaction and the hospitality driver, are chargeable add-on codes.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • The broadest documented open-protocol surface in this category: BACnet IP, BACnet Secure Connect, EIB and KNX IP, Lon IP, Modbus IP master and slave, M-Bus IP, SNMP and OPC UA in the standard open driver selection. verified source
  • Strong migration path off legacy Trend: a System Migration Tool imports IQSET and 963 projects and converts 963 schematics to HTML5, and Trend devices and networks are excluded from the licensed point count. verified source
  • Concrete security engineering: Cyber Security Dashboard, audit trail, LDAP, BACnet Secure Connect, and AES-128 with 2048-bit RSA key exchange on secure-mode vCNC links. verified source

Limitations

  • Honeywell own US and UK product pages mark IQVISION Supervisor as discontinued, with no named successor, which is the dominant buyer risk and sits in direct tension with a February 2025 version 4.14 datasheet. verified source
  • Windows only host on Windows 11 Professional 64-bit or Windows Server 2022 64-bit, with no documented vendor-hosted cloud option. verified source
  • Feature caps and licence friction: the Healthy Building Dashboard supports a maximum of five zones, hitting the point ceiling requires a paid upgrade, and SQL, MySQL and Oracle archival, Alarm Portal, CSV and Excel and the hospitality driver are chargeable add-on codes. verified source

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

Who it fits. Existing Trend estates, above all. The System Migration Tool imports IQSET and 963 projects and converts 963 schematics to HTML5, and Trend devices and networks do not count against the licence, so the economics strongly favour owners already on Trend who need to move off the 963 supervisor. It also suits mixed-protocol sites, since the open driver set covers BACnet, KNX, Lon, Modbus, M-Bus, SNMP and OPC UA, which is unusually broad.

Who it does not fit. Any new-build specification, until Honeywell clarifies the discontinued status in writing. A platform marked discontinued on the vendor own pages with no named successor is a maintenance and migration decision, not a purchasing decision, however current the datasheet looks. It is also Windows only with no documented vendor-hosted cloud option, and the Healthy Building Dashboard cap of five zones plus the add-on code structure add friction.

Typical use. Trend estate consolidation and 963 migration, sized between 300 and 150,000 points with one million available on request, multi-site through multiple vCNC connections, delivered by Trend and Honeywell account managers and the Trend partner network.

Alternatives

EC-Net Facilities Distech Controls (Acuity) Migration destination. Because IQVISION is itself Niagara 4 based, moving to another Niagara OEM distribution is the least disruptive route: EC-Net Facilities is a verified Distech Controls distribution of the same framework, keeping a productised supervisor layer, published licensing by Niagara network connections, and an integration surface across HVAC, lighting, energy, fire, access, video and industrial control. Budget for the mandatory Software Maintenance Agreement and the strict version-coupling rule.
Niagara Framework Tridium Migration destination. Going direct to Tridium with an integrator preserves your station logic, JACE and Edge estate and Niagara skills, and gives you B-AWS and B-BC conformance, a confirmed MQTT driver and the deepest published security posture here. The honest cost is that graphics, dashboards and drivers become project deliverables, no capacity or licence tiers are published, and marketplace driver quality is disclaimed by Tridium.
Metasys Johnson Controls Migration destination for a clean break onto a vendor suite with the best public evidence base in this category: published engine and user capacities, open versioned documentation, and vendor application notes for Modbus, KNX, M-Bus and OPC UA client, which covers most of the IQVISION open driver list. It is a larger project than staying on Niagara, with new network engines, Windows and SQL Server, and pervasive add-on licensing.
Desigo CC Siemens Migration destination when the opportunity is used to widen scope: HVAC, lighting, fire safety and security plus elevators and room booking on one supervisory platform, with a published two-way protocol matrix including KNX, OPC DA and UA and SNMPv3 that maps well onto the IQVISION driver set, and a UL-listed fire variant. Confirm the edition, since Compact DMS omits drivers present in Connect, and expect point-based licensing.
EcoStruxure Building Operation Schneider Electric Migration destination for estates where energy and power are the growth area: BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, web services and MQTT named on the vendor page, plus power, microgrids, renewables, EV charging and Brick Schema semantic tagging, with the most specific published security posture. The trade is that Trend-specific tooling has no equivalent and Schneider documentation is closed, with the help portal returning HTTP 403.

Frequently asked questions

Honeywell own US and UK product pages state that the product has been discontinued and that Honeywell will provide product support until a stated date, although that date did not render in the page text and no successor is named. At the same time Honeywell current datasheet for IQVISION is issue 24 dated February 2025 and documents version 4.14. The status is genuinely contradictory, so get written confirmation from Honeywell or Trend before specifying it.

Yes. The Honeywell datasheet states that IQVISION is built upon the Niagara 4 Framework, which is Tridium framework. It is therefore the same underlying engine as Tridium Niagara and Distech EC-Net, with Trend and Honeywell branding, drivers and support around it.

Trend is a product brand within Honeywell Building Automation. No source found indicates Trend has been sold, spun off or renamed as a brand. Note that Honeywell has completed a three-way corporate separation, with the remaining automation company doing business as Honeywell Technologies.
