Trend IQVISION versus Niagara Framework: lineage and migration

Trend IQVISION Supervisor is marked discontinued by Honeywell, and the evidence contradicts itself. Honeywell own US and UK product pages state that the product has been discontinued and that Honeywell will provide product support until a date which does not render in the fetched page, so no end-of-support date is published, and no successor is named on any Honeywell page opened. Against that, Honeywell own IQVISION datasheet for version 4.14, document TA201381 issue 24, is dated 19 February 2025 and documents IQX and TONN8 support, BACnet Secure Connect, Honeywell Forge cloud connections and a Cyber Security Dashboard. The web pages cite Niagara 4.7 U1 while that datasheet is 4.14. This contradiction is reported, not resolved. Confirm lifecycle status with Honeywell or Trend before specifying anything. IQX is a controller on the Niagara N4 platform, not a supervisor, so it is not the successor.

So this is a lineage and migration page, not a purchasing recommendation. It is also an asymmetric comparison in two ways. First, IQVISION is itself Niagara 4 based, so this is not a platform change in the usual sense: it is a comparison between an OEM distribution of Niagara and the framework underneath it. Second, Niagara is a framework rather than a finished BMS, so moving to it means choosing an integrator and a distribution, not buying a product.

The products

Trend IQVISION Supervisor

Honeywell (Trend Control Systems)

Niagara 4 based supervisory software for Trend controller estates, sold under Honeywell. Honeywell own US and UK product pages mark it discontinued with no named successor, while a February 2025 Honeywell datasheet still documents version 4.14.

Niagara Framework

Tridium

Tridium software framework that systems integrators and OEMs build building and device applications on, rather than a finished BMS. Niagara 4.15 is current. The same station runtime runs on JACE controllers, Niagara Edge 10 and the Niagara 4 Supervisor.

The main differences

The lineage, stated plainly

The line runs Trend 963 Supervisor to IQVISION, and IQVISION ships a System Migration Tool that imports IQSET and 963 projects and converts 963 schematics to HTML5. IQVISION is Niagara 4 based supervisory software for Trend controller estates, sold under Honeywell, with a Trend N4 driver reaching IQ1 through IQ5, IQECO and IQL and configuring TONN8 and IQX controllers. Niagara Framework itself is the Tridium platform, currently 4.15 on the product page while the home page features 4.14, with the same station runtime on JACE controllers, Niagara Edge 10 and the Niagara 4 Supervisor. EC-Net Facilities from Distech Controls is another verified OEM distribution of the same framework, which is relevant if you want to stay on Niagara without building everything bespoke.

What IQVISION gives you that the bare framework does not

  • The broadest documented open-protocol surface in this category: BACnet IP, BACnet Secure Connect, EIB and KNX IP, Lon IP, Modbus IP master and slave, M-Bus IP, SNMP and OPC UA in the standard open driver selection. By contrast, on Tridium pages only BACnet conformance, B-AWS and B-BC, and an MQTT driver could be confirmed. Modbus, LonWorks, SNMP, OPC UA, KNX, M-Bus, oBIX and REST could not be verified because the Niagara Drivers page returned HTTP 500 and the docs portal is login gated. Those are unverified, not absent, and they are almost certainly the same drivers surfaced in the OEM distribution.
  • Trend-specific value: central scheduling, control and energy management routines across Trend estates, an Enhanced Alarm Console with email acknowledgement and push notification, and the migration tooling off 963. Trend devices and networks are excluded from the licensed point count.
  • Concrete security engineering: Cyber Security Dashboard, audit trail, optional external LDAP, BACnet Secure Connect, and AES-128 with 2048-bit RSA key exchange on secure-mode vCNC links. Niagara publishes the deeper framework-level posture: Security Dashboard, PKI, LDAP, runtime integrity checks on digitally signed code with enforced third-party module signing, FIPS 140-2 Level 1 and 802.1X on JACE 8000 and Edge 10.

What a move onto the framework involves

Three honest costs. You are hiring engineering: Tridium states that integrators build custom end-user interfaces or buy graphics and dashboarding templates from partners, so the schematic pages you have today are a deliverable someone must reproduce. You take on driver-quality risk: the Niagara Marketplace carries drivers for competitors proprietary buses, industrial and utility protocols and EV charging, but Tridium states that seller information and product descriptions are not independently verified. And you lose some published specificity: no Tridium capacity figures exist, no energy metering capability is stated on any Tridium page opened, and no licence tier table is published. IQVISION at least publishes its order-code structure, with starter kits IQV-300 through IQV-150000 by point count and one million point capacity on request, though it has real caps too: the Healthy Building Dashboard supports a maximum of five zones, hitting the point ceiling requires a paid upgrade, and SQL, MySQL and Oracle archival, Alarm Portal, CSV and Excel export and the hospitality driver are chargeable add-on codes. IQVISION is also Windows only, on Windows 11 Professional 64-bit or Windows Server 2022 64-bit, with no documented vendor-hosted cloud option.

Which to choose

If you operate IQVISION today, the right first step is to resolve the contradiction rather than act on it. Get Honeywell to state in writing whether the discontinued flag is a genuine global end of life or a stale regional CMS state, and ask for the support end date, because a February 2025 version 4.14 datasheet sits directly against the discontinued notice.

If the answer is end of life, the migration advantage is that you are already on Niagara. Your JACE and Edge estate, your station logic and your Niagara skills carry forward, which is a far better position than a platform change. The decision becomes which Niagara route: a bespoke build with an integrator on the framework, or another OEM distribution such as EC-Net Facilities, which keeps a productised layer above the framework at the cost of that vendor own licence terms. Either way, write the driver list, the graphics scope, point-count licensing and ownership of engineering tools into the contract, and do not treat IQVISION as an active purchasing option until Honeywell confirms its status.

Frequently asked questions

The evidence conflicts and this directory does not resolve it. Honeywell own US and UK product pages say the product has been discontinued with no successor named, while Honeywell own datasheet TA201381 issue 24, dated 19 February 2025, documents version 4.14. The web pages cite Niagara 4.7 U1 against that 4.14 datasheet. Confirm with Honeywell or Trend before specifying.

No. IQX is a controller on the Niagara N4 platform, not a supervisor, so it does not replace IQVISION. No successor product is named on any Honeywell page opened.

Yes. IQVISION Supervisor is Niagara 4 based supervisory software for Trend controller estates. That is why a move to the Niagara Framework is a change of distribution and delivery model rather than a change of platform.

Because Tridium public evidence is incomplete. The Niagara Drivers page returned HTTP 500 on every variant tried, the documents library returned no results and the docs portal is login gated, so most drivers are unverified rather than absent. The IQVISION side, by contrast, has a published driver list on a Honeywell datasheet.
