Desigo CC
by Siemens
Siemens open multi-discipline building management platform for mid to large buildings, licensed by data point and discipline. Editions include Connect, Compact DMS, a UL fire variant and a Siemens-run service model.
What it is
Desigo CC is Siemens management and head-end platform, described by Siemens as an open, multi-discipline integration platform and the technology backbone for smart building infrastructure. It is software, licensed separately from the Desigo PXC controller line, and it is the cleanest software-only case among the major vendor head-ends. V9 is the version referenced on the US product page.
Siemens publishes an unusually explicit protocol matrix on its own datasheets, in both directions. The Desigo CC Connect datasheet lists southbound support for BACnet, BACnet/SC, OPC DA and UA, Modbus, HTTP(S), SNMP, KNX, HTML5, Haystack, plus Siemens S7 and S7 Plus and an SDK to develop subsystem extensions. Northbound it lists a BACnet IP server, an OPC DA server, SNMP and RESTful Web Services interfaces. That northbound list matters commercially: Desigo CC will act as a BACnet IP server and an OPC DA server to somebody else head-end, so it can be read from rather than replaced, and the Compact DMS datasheet names a Power BI connector as an example of the RESTful interface.
Disciplines Siemens names are HVAC, lighting, fire safety and security, plus other systems such as elevators and room booking, with electrical and utility meter data handled by the Powermanager module, which collects and visualises meter data and does energy, power and power quality reporting. There is a UL-listed fire variant, Desigo CC (UL), for life-safety regulated work. Operations features include advanced event management with automated reactions, a scripting engine, hierarchical scheduling, trending with export, long-term storage, dashboards and graphics, reports, and a Flex Client mobile app with real-time push notifications.
Edition fragmentation is the main buying hazard. Connect, Compact DMS, Desigo CC as a service and Desigo CC (UL) do not carry the same protocol support: KNX, Haystack and the S7 drivers appear in the Connect southbound list but not in the Compact DMS list. A protocol confirmed for Desigo CC in general may not exist in the edition being quoted. On the other hand Compact DMS publishes hard ceilings, which almost nobody in this category does: support for 2,000 fire objects, 500 security objects, 128 CCTV cameras and 500 building automation points. The Connect edition is licensed in point bands through roughly a hundred catalogue codes with CCA-, CCE- or CCO- prefixes where the number indicates licensed quantity and the suffix the discipline, for example CCA-100-BA for building automation or CCE-50-METER for metering, and no ceiling is stated for it.
Deployment is on premises in the normal model, with a SaaS alternative marketed as Desigo CC as a service in which Siemens manages the IT components, updates, backups, setup and the BMS network, and folds multiple sites and facilities into one licence. V9 adds cloud integration for data exchange with Siemens Building X platform, and the Connect datasheet confirms selected data can be shared with Building X cloud applications, so an on-premises station with northbound cloud exchange is a supported topology. Cybersecurity is the weak spot in public material: the product page claims 24/7 protection and regular updates with no technical detail, and the datasheet offers only a cybersecurity disclaimer link, so there is no security feature matrix to evaluate. SNMPv3 is the one concrete item named.
Capabilities
Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.
| Capability | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Third-party system integration Integration with systems outside HVAC, such as fire, access control, CCTV or CMMS. | Yes | Support for Siemens and third-party building automation, fire, security and power management units, plus an SDK for subsystem extensions. source |

| Cybersecurity features Documented security features such as encryption, authentication and hardening guidance. | Yes | Weakly evidenced. Regular updates and 24/7 protection are claimed with no feature detail; SNMPv3 is named. The datasheet carries only a cybersecurity disclaimer. source |
| Historical data and archiving Long-term historical storage beyond short-term trend buffers. | Yes | Long-term storage stated in the Compact DMS datasheet. source |
| Dashboards and graphics Operator graphics and configurable dashboards. | Yes | source |
| Energy metering Metering and consumption measurement, including submetering. | Yes | Powermanager module collects and visualises electrical and utility meter data; dedicated METER licence codes. source |
| Trending and logging Configurable trend logs for point data. | Yes | Energy use monitored through trending, trends exportable. source |
| Alarm management Alarm generation, prioritisation, routing and acknowledgement. | Yes | Advanced event management, automated reactions and a scripting engine. source |
| HVAC control Control sequences and scheduling for heating, ventilation and cooling plant. | Yes | Manages HVAC, lighting, fire safety and security plus elevators and room booking. source |
| OPC UA support OPC UA client or server for industrial interoperability. | Yes | OPC DA and UA southbound in both Connect and Compact datasheets. source |
| KNX support KNX integration for building control devices. | Yes | KNX is in the Connect southbound list but not in the Compact DMS list, so support is edition dependent. source |
| Modbus support Modbus TCP or RTU communication. | Yes | source |
| BACnet support Native BACnet IP or MSTP communication with field devices. | Yes | Southbound BACnet and BACnet/SC; northbound BACnet IP server. source |
| Edge controller management Managing and programming edge or field controllers from the platform. | Not verified | Desigo CC manages Desigo PXC controllers but is not itself an edge runtime; no source states edge-controller function in the platform. |
| MQTT support MQTT publish or subscribe for telemetry and cloud integration. | Not verified | MQTT is absent from both the Connect and Compact DMS protocol lists. |

| Note | No figure published. Siemens publishes the licence catalogue structure, about a hundred CCA-, CCE- and CCO- prefixed codes with stock numbers where the number indicates licensed point quantity and the suffix the discipline, but no prices. The service model is described as having no binding commitments and little to no initial IT hardware investment, again with no figure. Sold through Siemens and its solution partners. |

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- The most publicly verifiable protocol matrix in this category, on a vendor-hosted datasheet and in both directions, including a northbound BACnet IP server and OPC DA server. verified source
- Published hard capacity numbers for the Compact edition: 2,000 fire objects, 500 security objects, 128 CCTV cameras and 500 building automation points, which is directly usable for sizing. verified source
- Real multi-discipline scope including fire with automated actions and assisted event management, plus a UL-listed fire variant for life-safety regulated work. verified source
Limitations
- Edition fragmentation is a buying hazard: KNX, Haystack and the S7 drivers appear in the Connect southbound list but not in the Compact DMS list, so a protocol confirmed for Desigo CC may not exist in the edition quoted. verified source
- Cybersecurity claims are marketing grade in public material, with no feature detail and only a disclaimer link on the datasheet. editorial
- Point-count licensing across around a hundred SKUs with discipline-specific extensions makes cost opaque and change expensive, and there is no canonical global product page. editorial
Who it suits
Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise
Who it fits. Siemens states the target plainly: buildings of mid to large size and higher complexities. It is the right shortlist entry when the requirement is one operator platform over mixed-vendor subsystems and more than one discipline, especially where fire or security must sit alongside HVAC, and where electrical and utility metering is in scope through Powermanager. The northbound openness also makes it a good choice for owners who expect an enterprise analytics layer, a later head-end, or a Power BI reporting stack to read from the BMS.
Who it does not fit. Small single buildings and anyone needing predictable cost. Point-count licensing across around a hundred SKUs with discipline-specific extensions makes budgeting opaque and change expensive, no prices are published, and there is no canonical global product page: the global URL returns 404 and regional pages carry different claims and version numbers. Buyers who require a published cybersecurity specification should also look elsewhere, or demand one in writing. MQTT is not named on any current datasheet, so IoT-first projects should verify it.
Typical use. Mid-size to large commercial, healthcare, campus and critical-environment estates delivered by Siemens and its solution partners, either as a customer-hosted station or, where the client has no BMS-capable IT function, under Desigo CC as a service.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, as Desigo CC as a service, where Siemens manages the IT components, updates, backups, setup and the BMS network and multiple sites can sit in one licence. The conventional model is a customer-hosted station, and V9 adds cloud data exchange with Siemens Building X.
The Connect datasheet lists BACnet, BACnet/SC, OPC DA and UA, Modbus, HTTP(S), SNMP, KNX, HTML5, Haystack and Siemens S7 and S7 Plus southbound, and a BACnet IP server, OPC DA server, SNMP and RESTful web services northbound. Compact DMS has a shorter list without KNX, so confirm against the edition quoted. MQTT is not named.
By data point and discipline, ordered as catalogue part numbers with CCA-, CCE- or CCO- prefixes. Siemens publishes the part numbers and stock numbers but no prices.
