Deltek Vantagepoint
by Deltek
Project ERP for architecture, engineering and consulting firms, combining CRM and pipeline management with project accounting, billing and dashboards. A separate Deltek product from Costpoint.
What it is
It is genuinely a separate product from Costpoint, and the market split is clean. This pass specifically checked whether Vantagepoint and Costpoint are the same thing under two names, and they are not. Deltek lists both as separate Cloud ERP products with distinct positioning: Vantagepoint is ERP built for architecture, engineering and consulting firms, while Costpoint is intelligent ERP for government contracting, aerospace and defence. No consolidation was made. For a buyer the practical implication is that the Deltek conversation starts with which firm you are, not which features you want, and an architecture practice being shown Costpoint is being mis-sold.
The distinctive thing is that it starts before the project exists. CRM and Pipeline Management is a named part of the product, with an Outlook and Gmail add-in. That matters specifically for professional services firms, where the pursuit is the business: proposals, pipeline, win rates and the resourcing implications of work you have not won yet. Most ERP products begin at the order and treat the sales pipeline as somebody else's system, which forces AEC firms into a CRM plus accounting integration they then maintain forever. Having both in one product is the main structural argument for Vantagepoint.
Verified functional scope. Deltek names accounting and financial management with general ledger trend alerts, automated accounts payable invoice approvals, billing and invoicing with inbound payments, simplified purchasing, project-specific dashboards with earned revenue tracking and spending risk alerts, interactive dashboards giving a complete view of company performance, and CRM and pipeline management. Deltek states that more than 80 per cent of Vantagepoint companies use the Deltek Cloud, and the FAQ notes that a customer can implement Vantagepoint Front Office only, which is a useful lower-commitment entry point if you want the CRM and pipeline side before replacing your accounting.
Where the gaps are. Accounts receivable is implied through billing, invoicing and inbound payments rather than named, so it is recorded as unknown. HR and payroll is not stated; the only reference is a UKG integration for employee time and labour costs, which means payroll is somebody else's product. Multi-company and multi-currency are not stated at all, which is a material gap for a consulting firm with overseas offices and should be raised at the first meeting. Fixed assets, inventory, manufacturing, tax compliance, any documented API and mobile access are likewise not stated. Mobile appears only in relation to a separate product called ArchiSnapper, not Vantagepoint itself. No pricing is published.
The absence of inventory and manufacturing is not a flaw here. This is a product for firms that sell time and expertise, and it is shaped accordingly. But it does mean the product is narrower than the phrase ERP usually implies, and a buyer should not expect operational breadth.
Capabilities
Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.
| Capability | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Reporting and analytics Financial and operational reporting and analytics. | Yes | Interactive dashboards giving a complete view of company performance. source |
| Project accounting Project costing, work in progress and revenue recognition. | Yes | Project-specific dashboards, earned revenue tracking and spending risk alerts. source |
| Purchasing and procurement Requisitions, purchase orders and goods receipt. | Yes | Described on the page as simplified purchasing. source |
| Accounts payable Supplier invoices, approvals and payment runs. | Yes | Automated accounts payable invoice approvals. source |
| General ledger Core financial ledger with chart of accounts and journals. | Yes | Accounting and financial management is named, including general ledger trend alerts. source |
| Mobile access Mobile application or responsive access for approvals and enquiry. | Not verified | Not stated for Vantagepoint itself. Mobile use appears only in relation to the separate ArchiSnapper product. |
| Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. | Not verified | Not stated. The page refers to integrations and a Deltek Marketplace without documenting an API. |
| Tax and statutory compliance VAT, withholding and statutory reporting, including local regimes. | Not verified | Not stated on the page. |
| Multi-currency Transacting and reporting in multiple currencies with revaluation. | Not verified | Not stated on the page. A material gap for internationally operating consultancies. |
| Multi-company consolidation Multiple legal entities with intercompany and consolidation. | Not verified | Not stated on the page. A material gap for firms with several legal entities; raise it early. |
| HR and payroll Employee records and payroll, native or via integration. | Not verified | Not stated. The only reference is a UKG integration for employee time and labour costs, so payroll is a third-party product. |
| Manufacturing and production Bills of material, routings and production orders. | Not verified | Not stated. Out of scope for this product in practice. |
| Inventory management Stock valuation, locations and movements. | Not verified | Not stated. Consistent with a product built for firms selling time rather than goods. |
| Fixed asset accounting Asset registers, depreciation and disposal accounting. | Not verified | Not stated on the page. |
| Accounts receivable Customer invoicing, collections and credit control. | Not verified | Implied rather than named: the page covers billing, invoicing and inbound payments but does not name accounts receivable. |

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- CRM and pipeline management is part of the product, with an Outlook and Gmail add-in, which removes the CRM plus accounting integration most professional services firms otherwise have to build and maintain. verified source
- Project financial control is specific rather than generic, with earned revenue tracking, spending risk alerts and general ledger trend alerts named. verified source
- A lower-commitment entry point exists: Deltek states a customer can implement Vantagepoint Front Office only. verified source
Limitations
- Multi-company and multi-currency are not stated anywhere on the product page, which is a significant unknown for any firm with more than one legal entity or country, and payroll is a UKG integration rather than a native module. verified source
Who it suits
Organisation sizes: Small, Medium
It fits well when:
- You are an architecture, engineering or consulting firm. Deltek names exactly that market, and taking the vendor at its word on segment is sound.
- Your pipeline and your projects need to be in the same system, where CRM and Pipeline Management plus the Outlook and Gmail add-in is the differentiator.
- You bill by project and need earned revenue tracking, project profitability and spending risk alerts rather than generic job costing.
- You want a staged adoption, since Deltek states a customer can implement Vantagepoint Front Office only.
- You are comfortable with cloud, which is where more than 80 per cent of Vantagepoint companies run according to Deltek.
It fits badly when:
- You are a government contractor. Deltek has Costpoint for that, with the DCAA and indirect rate machinery Vantagepoint does not claim.
- You make, move or hold physical goods. Inventory and manufacturing are not stated, and this is not that kind of product.
- You have multiple legal entities or trade in several currencies. Neither multi-company nor multi-currency is stated, and for an international consultancy that is the first thing to test rather than the last.
- You need native payroll. The only reference is a UKG integration, so payroll is a separate product and a separate contract.
- You need a documented API for extensive integration. None is stated; the page refers to integrations and a Deltek Marketplace instead.
Questions for Deltek. Confirm multi-company consolidation and multi-currency explicitly, named and in writing, because their absence from the page is the single biggest unknown for any firm with more than one office or country. Confirm what accounts receivable functionality exists beyond billing and inbound payments. Confirm the API, or the supported integration method, for every system you need to connect. Ask what the Front Office only option costs and what it excludes, since a staged adoption is only cheaper if the second stage is priced up front. Confirm the UKG integration scope and who maintains it. And ask whether any on-premises option exists, given the stated cloud majority implies a minority running something else.
Alternatives
Frequently asked questions
No. Deltek lists them as separate Cloud ERP products for different markets: Vantagepoint is ERP built for architecture, engineering and consulting firms, and Costpoint is intelligent ERP for government contracting, aerospace and defence. This was checked specifically and no consolidation was made.
Yes. CRM and Pipeline Management is part of the product, with an Outlook and Gmail add-in. That is one of the main reasons AEC firms shortlist it.
Not stated on the product page, so both are recorded as unknown. For an internationally operating consultancy this is the first thing to confirm in writing, not the last.
Not as a native module. The only reference on the page is a UKG integration for employee time and labour costs, so payroll is a separate product.
