EcoStruxure Building Operation Alternatives
EcoStruxure Building Operation, formerly StruxureWare Building Operation, is Schneider Electric building management software for large buildings, engineered as one system with the SpaceLogic automation server and controller family. Its real strengths are breadth and security posture: BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, web services and MQTT named on its own page, scope extending into power, microgrids, renewables, EV charging and metered energy, Brick Schema semantic tagging, and a stated secure development lifecycle with BACnet SC certificate management.
The dominant reason buyers look elsewhere is that they cannot verify what they are buying. The official help portal and the specification-sheet host both returned HTTP 403 Forbidden, the Enterprise Server specification path returned 404, and the software and hardware boundary is not published clearly: Enterprise Server, Enterprise Central, WorkStation and WebStation are not listed on the current US launch page, which presents SpaceLogic hardware instead. There are no published point counts, server-tier limits or concurrent-user ceilings on any reachable page, and no licence structure at all.
If diligence is the problem, Johnson Controls Metasys is the direct answer. It is the same class of product, an automation suite sold with its own network engines, and it publishes everything Schneider does not: ADX headroom of 1,000 network engines and 100 concurrent users, licence tiers by concurrent-user count, and application notes for Modbus, KNX, M-Bus and OPC UA client. Siemens Desigo CC is the other verifiable option, with vendor-hosted datasheets, a two-way protocol matrix and published Compact edition ceilings, and it leaves you freer at the field layer because it is a supervisory platform rather than a stack.
If the driver is the field-layer lock-in rather than the paperwork, Tridium Niagara Framework is the structural alternative, since it puts the integration layer in your hands instead of inside a vendor product boundary. Be clear that it is a framework and not a finished BMS: you are choosing an integrator and a distribution, and graphics, dashboards and drivers are deliverables. For BACnet-led estates wanting a hosted operational model instead, Automated Logic WebCTRL offers a vendor-run cloud edition Schneider does not publish an equivalent to.

The alternatives, and why they are here
Selected on capability and use case rather than on sharing a category label. Each entry says what actually differs.
Metasys
Johnson Controls
Johnson Controls building automation system built from tiered server software (ADS, ADX, OAS) over NAE, SNE and SNC network engines. Release 14.0 is current and the technical documentation is fully public.
Why consider it: The closest structural match, since both are automation suites sold as software plus a matched controller family. Metasys is the better choice when you must verify before buying: capacities, licence tiers and per-protocol application notes are public, where the Schneider help portal and specification host return HTTP 403. Metasys publishes less energy and power scope and licenses archival, FIPS, two-factor authentication and BACnet/SC separately.

Desigo CC
Siemens
Siemens open multi-discipline building management platform for mid to large buildings, licensed by data point and discipline. Editions include Connect, Compact DMS, a UL fire variant and a Siemens-run service model.
Why consider it: A supervisory platform rather than a stack, so it leaves you freer at the field layer, and the most publicly verifiable protocol matrix in the category including a northbound BACnet IP server and OPC DA server. Pick it when fire and security must be first-class disciplines or a UL-listed fire variant is required. Watch the edition fragmentation: KNX and other drivers are in Connect but not Compact DMS.

Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI)
Honeywell
Honeywell multi-discipline building head-end that runs HVAC, fire and life safety, security, video and energy from one operator platform. Current release R610. Quote only, delivered through Honeywell and its partners.
Why consider it: Comparable enterprise multi-discipline positioning with native fire, life safety, security and video, and a distributed node architecture so a campus does not depend on one server. Both vendors keep documentation effectively closed, so neither improves your diligence position. EBI is the thinner profile of the two: no datasheet, no docs portal and no capacity figure of any kind could be found.

WebCTRL Building Automation System
Automated Logic (Carrier)
Automated Logic supervisory head-end for native BACnet controller estates, current at WebCTRL 10, available on premises or as WebCTRL Cloud, a vendor-hosted subscription running on AWS. Automated Logic is a Carrier company.
Why consider it: For BACnet-led estates that want the operational burden moved off site. WebCTRL Cloud is a vendor-hosted subscription on AWS including hosting, server maintenance, site-reliability monitoring, database redundancy, backups and upgrades, which Schneider does not publish an equivalent of, and it confirms MQTT, Modbus IP and SNMP. Narrower protocol breadth, with KNX, LonWorks and OPC UA not on the published list, and no open documentation portal.

Niagara Framework
Tridium
Tridium software framework that systems integrators and OEMs build building and device applications on, rather than a finished BMS. Niagara 4.15 is current. The same station runtime runs on JACE controllers, Niagara Edge 10 and the Niagara 4 Supervisor.
Why consider it: The alternative if you want to own the integration layer instead of accepting a vendor product boundary at the field layer. Understand what it is: a framework, not a finished BMS, so every deployment is bespoke engineering by an integrator or delivered as an OEM distribution. Strengths are the single runtime across edge and supervisor, a real third-party driver marketplace, and the deepest published security posture. Tridium driver list cannot be publicly verified.

What this page is not
This is not a ranking and there is no single best alternative. The right choice depends on what you are replacing and why, which is why each entry states a specific reason rather than a score. Capability values come from each product's structured profile, where anything unverified is labelled as such rather than assumed.
