Skedda vs Joan

Both products here are primarily workplace booking tools, and both publish real pricing, which already puts them in a minority of five out of twelve in this category. They are nonetheless priced on completely different axes, and that axis is the whole comparison. Skedda charges per bookable space. Joan charges per plan, where every plan bundles a user allowance and a device allowance, and extra devices cost roughly ten times extra users.

Two facts about Joan needed verifying and both came back clearly. The vendor is Visionect d.o.o., the Slovenian e-paper display company, named in the copyright notice on the Joan site. And the software is not locked to Visionect hardware: the Joan pricing FAQ states that Joan works on its proprietary ePaper devices as well as any other display, including tablets and LCD televisions. So you can buy Joan as software and run it on screens you already own, even though the commercial model remains device-shaped.

One asymmetry to declare up front. Joan is one of the two thinnest profiles in this category on features, because only the vendor pricing page was read in depth. Its commercial facts are solid and its feature set is largely open. Skedda has two pages of evidence behind it, including a detailed integrations page. Where this comparison says something about Joan could not be verified from published sources, that is a statement about the available evidence, not a claim that the product lacks the capability.

The products

Skedda

Skedda

Skedda is desk and space booking software priced per bookable space rather than per user, with published regional plan pricing, Outlook and Google calendar sync, Slack and Teams integrations, SSO, webhooks, Zapier and a public API.

Full profile

Joan

Visionect d.o.o.

Joan is room and desk booking software from Visionect, sold in tiered plans that bundle users and devices. It runs on Joan e-paper displays but also on ordinary tablets and LCD screens, so the software is not tied to the vendor hardware.

The main differences

The pricing shapes, and when each one wins

Skedda publishes regionalised per-space plans, all billed annually and all prefixed Starting at. For EMEA and APAC: Starter from 99 per month with 15 spaces, Plus from 149 with 20 spaces, Premier from 199 with 25 spaces. For the United States and Canada: Plus from 249 per month with 35 spaces, Premier from 349 with 45 spaces. Enterprise is custom and a separate AllBooked offering is quote only. Every figure is printed with a bare dollar symbol and no ISO code, so USD is inferred from the symbol plus the explicit United States and Canada heading, and the EMEA and APAC figures carry the same bare symbol. There is no free plan, but a free 14-day Premium trial with no payment method required.

Joan publishes four tiers, served in AED during research because the pricing page is geolocated, starting at 221.18 AED per month. Team includes 20 users, up to 50, and 2 devices, up to 5. Business includes 50 users, up to 150, and 5 devices, up to 12. Organization includes 100 users, up to 400, and 10 devices, up to 35. Enterprise+ includes 200 users and 20 devices. Extra users are 4.42 AED per user per month and extra devices 44 AED per device per month. ePaper badges cost 73.40 AED per badge per year on top of a plan, with licences starting 15 November 2026. There is a 30-day free trial with no commitment and a 30-day money-back guarantee on devices. The monthly-billed rates referenced in the FAQ did not render and are unverified, and the currency you see will depend on your region.

So: count your spaces for Skedda and count your screens for Joan. A 500-person company with 30 bookable rooms pays for 30 spaces on Skedda. An organisation with 40 rooms is pushed up Joan tiers by screen count regardless of headcount. Neither is cheap in the other one shape.

Outlook and Teams: a documented caveat against no evidence at all

This is the capability that decides adoption in this category, and the two products fail the test in different ways.

Skedda is the trap. Its integrations page says that Outlook calendar syncs with Skedda for real-time availability and scheduling, and lists Microsoft Teams as a direct integration. What it nowhere states is that users can create, cancel or manage bookings from within Outlook or Teams. The same pattern applies to Google Workspace, where calendar management is described but booking from Google Calendar is not, and to Slack, which surfaces hybrid schedule information. Read carefully, Skedda documents calendar sync, not calendar-native booking. It is recorded in this directory as supported with that caveat spelled out, and the caveat must not be flattened: if your entire adoption plan rests on employees never leaving Outlook, this distinction is decisive and the 14-day trial is where you test it.

Joan has no Outlook or Teams evidence at all. No such statement was read on the vendor pages covered. For a product whose core use case is meeting room booking with displays outside the rooms, that is the single most important gap in the evidence and it has to be established directly with the vendor before purchase. And since no vendor anywhere in this category documents recurring-meeting behaviour, neither product carries a verified recurring-booking claim either.

Everything else

Skedda is reasonably open: SSO via Okta, OneLogin, Microsoft Entra ID and JumpCloud, webhooks, Zapier, Google Sheets, API documentation for booking data, and listed integrations including Zoom, Webex, ServiceNow, Stripe, Xero, QuickBooks, Kisi, Logitech Tap Scheduler and an embeddable website scheduler. Floor plans, occupancy analytics, utilisation reporting, visitor management, wayfinding and sensors are all absent from the published material. For Joan, none of those were verified either way.

Not verified means the capability has not been checked for that product. It does not mean the product lacks it. Blank cells and unverified rows are never counted as a "no".

Strengths and limitations

Drawn from each product's own profile, where every item is labelled a verified fact or an editorial judgement.

Which to choose

Choose Skedda if you have few bookable spaces and many people, and especially if you charge external parties for space. The embeddable scheduler and the Stripe, Xero and QuickBooks integrations point squarely at coworking operators, community and sports facilities, and universities booking studios and labs. Just do not buy it for space management, and do not buy it on the assumption of booking from inside Outlook until you have tested that in the trial.

Choose Joan if your problem is physical: room displays outside meeting rooms in a building with no cabling at the doors. E-paper panels need no mains wiring and run a long time on battery, and that is a real engineering advantage no software competitor in this set can match. Model devices first, not headcount, confirm your own currency and the monthly rates, and get the Outlook and Teams position in writing.

Neither is an enterprise space management product. Nothing published for either suggests space allocation, chargeback, portfolio reporting or sensor-driven occupancy counting, and Joan plan ceilings top out at a few hundred users. Large estates should be looking at the IWMS and FM platforms cross-listed into this category instead, whose full profiles live in the facility management category.

Frequently asked questions

Not confirmed, and this is the single most important caveat on the product. Skedda documents Outlook calendar sync for real-time availability and scheduling, and lists Microsoft Teams as an integration, but nowhere states that bookings can be created, cancelled or managed from within Outlook or Teams. What is documented is calendar sync, not calendar-native booking. Test it during the free 14-day trial.

Could not be verified from published sources. No Outlook or Teams statement was read on the Joan vendor pages covered in this research pass. That is a gap in the evidence rather than a confirmed absence, but for a room booking product it is the gap that matters most, so establish it with Visionect before purchase.

No. The Joan pricing FAQ states that Joan works on its proprietary ePaper devices as well as any other display, including tablets and LCD televisions. Note that every plan still bundles a device allowance and extra devices are charged at roughly ten times the per-user rate, so the commercial model stays device oriented.

It depends entirely on your shape. Skedda prices per bookable space from 99 per month for 15 spaces in EMEA and APAC, or 249 per month for 35 spaces in the United States and Canada, with the currency inferred as USD from a bare dollar symbol. Joan starts at 221.18 AED per month as served by geolocation, with plans bundling users and devices. Few spaces and many people favours Skedda. Many screens favours neither cheaply.
