Jobber vs Housecall Pro

This is the trades and small-contractor comparison, and it is a genuinely self-serve decision. Both products are complete back offices for a small home-service business rather than scheduling layers over something else: quote, schedule, route, invoice, take payment, with accounting pushed out to a separate package. Both publish their prices, both offer a 14-day trial with no credit card, and neither has a free plan.

Jobber starts lower. Its pricing is a matrix of plan by team size by commitment length, and the floor of the whole matrix is 29 per month for Core with 1 user billed annually, rising to 39 on a one-year commitment and 49 with no commitment. Extra users are 29 per month each. Connect runs 99 to 299 billed annually depending on team size, Grow 149 to 399, and Plus 399 to 529. Published plans stop at 15 users, above which the page routes to Contact Sales. The trial is 14 days with full access to Grow features. One caveat: the Jobber pricing page contradicts itself on the Plus tier, with the plan wizard showing Plus starting at 399 per month including 15 users while the table lists 529 per month for Plus at 15 users billed annually. Confirm in-cart.

Housecall Pro starts higher but includes more users sooner. Basic is 59 per month billed annually or 79 monthly for 1 user, Essentials 149 or 189 for 5 users, and Max 299 or 329 for 8 users plus 35 per month per additional user. Card processing is advertised as low as 2.59 percent and bank payments carry a 1 percent fee. Its trial is 14 days with no card and full access to the MAX plan.

Currency: Housecall Pro is the only product in this entire category that states it. Its page says all prices are in USD and exclusive of sales tax. The Jobber page prints a bare dollar sign with no ISO code, so USD is inferred from the US-targeted dot-com page, and Jobber is a Canadian company, so CAD pricing may exist on other locale paths. That difference is worth something real when you are budgeting.

The main differences

Offline working: the single biggest difference, and it is not close

Jobber offline status is unresolved on Jobber own sources, so this directory records it as unverified. A Jobber product update dated 18 March 2026 is titled Keep working in Jobber, even without internet, and opens by referencing basements, new-build sites and rural areas. But a Jobber Support Team reply on Jobber own community states the app does not support offline capabilities, with the exception of internal notes, and that files cannot be attached offline, and the help centre separately states that to use both the app and the website you do need an internet connection. The support and help content may predate the March 2026 release, but the product update page itself returned 403 so its shipped scope could not be established, and the help centre still carries the contradicting text. We report both claims and do not pick the flattering one. Anyone buying for low-coverage work must verify this directly with Jobber.

Housecall Pro offline is documented, narrow, and read-only. Jobs are the only area of the app where data can be stored, and the job must have been opened while online. Cached fields are date and time, duration, customer name and address, customer history, line items, private notes, job tags, checklists and attachments, plus the Upcoming Job and Open Work dashboard cards. Navigation to notes, checklists and attachments is available only if previously viewed on the device. Crucially, Housecall Pro states that editing without cell service or WiFi is not supported at this time. Cached data is evicted oldest-first past an undisclosed limit, and only previously-opened jobs can be clicked from the schedule. That is read-only offline caching, not offline working, and a technician cannot complete a job in a dead zone.

So the honest summary is that neither product is a safe choice for crews that routinely lose signal. Housecall Pro at least tells you precisely what you get, which for procurement purposes is worth more than an unresolved claim.

Where else they diverge

Jobber has a real documented GraphQL API, which is rare at this price point: a public Developer Center documenting OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens, a required GraphQL version header, Relay-style cursor pagination and published rate-limit rules including query-cost calculation. Note it is GraphQL, not REST, and webhooks were not confirmed. Jobber integrates with QuickBooks, Xero, Stripe and Zapier, but accounting sync is one-way out of Jobber with named gaps: Jobber Payments tips do not sync to Xero and overpayments must be reconciled by hand. If that sort of thing decides your shortlist, one-way versus two-way sync is worth ten minutes.

Housecall Pro has two advantages Jobber does not. Recurring Service Plans give genuine maintenance-contract support, which many small-contractor products lack and which matters if agreements rather than break-fix carry your revenue. And its 30-app marketplace is weighted to lead sources, naming Angi, Thumbtack, Yelp and Google Local Services, with payroll via Gusto and field photo tooling like CompanyCam. Against that, its accounting story is narrower: the integrations page specifies QuickBooks Desktop with one-way invoice sync and Xero is not listed at all. No API or webhooks are mentioned anywhere and no developer portal was found, so Zapier appears to be the extension path.

One more pricing-page caution on Housecall Pro: several headline figures are promotional first-period offers, for example 26 per month for one month on Basic and Essentials and 99 per month for three months on Max. Those are not entry prices.

Strengths and limitations

Drawn from each product's own profile, where every item is labelled a verified fact or an editorial judgement.

Which to choose

Pick Jobber if you are at or near a single user and want the lowest entry cost, if Xero is your accounting system, or if you have a developer who will use the GraphQL API. Pick Housecall Pro if maintenance agreements are a real revenue line, if you buy work from Angi, Thumbtack or Google Local Services, if you want five or eight users included rather than paying 29 each, or if you simply want the price in a stated currency rather than an inferred one.

Both leave the self-serve model as you grow: Jobber published plans end at 15 users and Housecall Pro top published plan includes 8. Neither is a fit where the field app must feed a corporate ERP, since no SAP, Oracle, Business Central or NetSuite connectors were found for either. And if your crews work underground or rurally, test offline hands-on before you commit: one product states editing offline is unsupported, and the other contradicts itself about whether offline exists.

Frequently asked questions

Jobber at the entry point: 29 per month for Core with 1 user billed annually, versus 59 for Housecall Pro Basic with 1 user billed annually. The comparison changes with team size, because Housecall Pro Essentials includes 5 users at 149 and Max includes 8 at 299, while Jobber charges 29 per month per extra user. Housecall Pro states its prices are in USD; the Jobber figure is a bare dollar sign with USD inferred from the US site.

Housecall Pro offers read-only caching of jobs that were opened while online, and states plainly that editing without cell service or WiFi is not supported at this time. Jobber offline status is unresolved: a March 2026 Jobber update is titled Keep working in Jobber, even without internet, while a Jobber Support reply says the app does not support offline capabilities except internal notes and the help centre says an internet connection is required. We could not reconcile those, so Jobber offline is recorded as unverified.

Yes, 14 days on both with no credit card required. Jobber trial gives full access to Grow plan features; the Housecall Pro trial gives full access to the MAX plan and is cancellable anytime. Neither has a free plan.

Jobber names QuickBooks and Xero, with sync one way out of Jobber and known gaps around tips and overpayments. Housecall Pro integrations page specifies QuickBooks Desktop with one-way invoice sync and does not list Xero at all, so Xero users should prefer Jobber or confirm directly.
