Delta enteliWEB versus Alerton Compass 2: lineage and migration
Alerton Compass 2 is discontinued. Honeywell own US product pages for both Compass 2 Software and Compass Softwares state that the product has been discontinued and that Honeywell will provide product support until a date which does not render in the fetched page text, so no end-of-support date is published. No successor is named on any Honeywell page opened, no Compass 3 was found, associated Honeywell training is also marked discontinued, and Ascent Control Module hardware pages in some locales carry discontinued notices. Some regional pages still present ordering part numbers without the discontinued banner, so regional messaging is inconsistent.
This page is therefore not a buying comparison. It is written for someone who already operates an Alerton BACtalk or Ascent estate under Compass 2 and is working out what a move looks like. Delta Controls enteliWEB is the relevant comparison because it is the clearest BACnet-to-BACnet overlay in this category: it federates multiple BACnet sites under a single login with B-AWS and B-SCHUB device profiles, and it can sit above another vendor on-site front end. Both sides of this comparison are partly thin, and the Alerton side is much the thinner: Honeywell publishes no open Compass datasheet, SKU list or price, documents require sign-in, and no login was attempted.

Operator workstation software for Alerton BACtalk and Ascent estates. Honeywell own US and UK pages state the product has been discontinued, with no successor named, so it should be treated as a legacy platform.
Full profileThe main differences
What Compass 2 actually gives you today
On Honeywell own pages, Compass 2 is a BACnet operator workstation with real operational depth. It replaced Alerton Building Suite and Envision for BACtalk and converts legacy Alerton bitmap graphics to HTML5, which is why it exists at all. It offers optimum start, zones, time-of-day and seasonal strategies, EASE scheduling and VisualLogic programming; an interactive alarm table with sorting, filtering, categorising and commenting; interactive data tables allowing bulk editing of many point values at once; trend logs viewable as graphs or text; and genuinely strong demand management, with flexible demand metering across media and priority-based load shedding and restoration of binary and analogue loads with real-time results. What is not published matters as much. No field protocol other than BACnet is named on Honeywell own pages, so Modbus, KNX, OPC UA and MQTT are unverified rather than absent. LDAP user authentication is the only security feature named, with no encryption or BACnet Secure Connect statement found. Multi-building support and any third-party integration beyond BACnet are unknown, and no dashboard product and no cloud option are described.
What enteliWEB offers a migrating estate
- It can sit above what you have. enteliWEB federates other vendor BACnet sites and needs only an IP address per site, so an Alerton BACnet estate can be centralised without renetworking and without replacing the control layer first. That makes a phased migration possible rather than a rip and replace.
- Verified modern security where Compass is silent. User and group permissions, LDAP, an audit log, electronic signatures supporting FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and the BACnet Secure Connect Hub profile. For a regulated site this is the single largest difference.
- Energy and history as products. The enteliWEB Energy module with Virtual Meters derived from existing sensors and validated against upstream utility meters, enteliVAULT central archiving with support for up to 100,000 trend logs, and enterprise, personal and system dashboards with enteliVIZ HTML5 graphics.
- Published licence structure. Editions eW200, eW500, eW1000, eW2500 and Enterprise at 5,000 I/O and expandable, each supporting multiple sites, with add-on codes. No figures are published.
What moving would actually involve
Three things to plan for, all evidenced. First, enteliWEB is BACnet centric: Delta publishes no Modbus, LonWorks, KNX, SNMP, OPC UA or MQTT statement for it, so anything non-BACnet in the Alerton estate should be assumed to need gateway hardware until confirmed. Since Compass itself documents nothing beyond BACnet, survey the field layer yourself rather than trusting either vendor page, and plan point-to-asset mapping as project work. Second, there is no vendor-hosted SaaS: cloud means running enteliWEB yourself on supported virtualisation such as Azure, Amazon EC2, VMware or Hyper-V on Windows Server, and an offline virtual machine deployment needs a specific add-on. Third, the per-edition I/O ceilings are hard, so under-sizing forces a licence upgrade; size for the whole estate, not the first site. Note also that the public Delta catalog sheet is dated November 2022, so confirm current detail.

If you run Compass 2, you are on a legacy and maintenance platform with no named successor and no published end-of-support date, and the first action is not a purchase: it is to get the lifecycle position and the support end date in writing from Honeywell, especially given that some regional pages still show ordering codes without a discontinued banner.
enteliWEB is a realistic destination precisely because it does not require you to move everything at once. Federating the existing BACnet estate under one login, centralising alarms, scheduling and energy, and gaining audit logging, electronic signatures and BACnet Secure Connect, is a migration you can stage. The honest caveat on this comparison is evidence: the Compass side rests on Honeywell marketing pages with gated documents, so any statement that Compass does not do something should be read as not published rather than not supported. Validate the protocol inventory on site before committing to either path.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Honeywell own US pages for Compass 2 Software and Compass Softwares state the product has been discontinued and that Honeywell will provide product support until a date which does not render in the fetched page, so no date is published. No successor is named and no Compass 3 was found.
Delta states that enteliWEB federates other vendor BACnet sites with a single login requiring only an IP address per site, and that it can sit above another vendor on-site front end while centralising alarms, scheduling and energy. Since Alerton BACtalk is a BACnet system, that is the phased route. Confirm the specific device profiles with Delta.
Plan for gateways. Delta publishes no Modbus, LonWorks, KNX, SNMP, OPC UA or MQTT statement for enteliWEB, and Honeywell names no field protocol other than BACnet for Compass, so the non-BACnet inventory has to be surveyed on site rather than read off either vendor page.
No vendor-hosted SaaS. Cloud means you run it yourself on supported virtualisation such as Azure, Amazon EC2, VMware or Hyper-V on Windows Server, and an offline virtual machine deployment requires a specific add-on.
