GENESIS version 11
by Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Rebranded
Industrial SCADA and HMI suite applied to buildings, data centres and facilities. Formerly GENESIS64; GENESIS version 11 launched February 2025 with unlimited-edition licensing, and both lines are currently marketed.
What it is
GENESIS version 11 is the current name of what the market still calls ICONICS GENESIS64. The branding has changed twice over: ICONICS was acquired by Mitsubishi Electric in 2019 and the vendor is now Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions, Inc., and the product line dropped the 64 suffix when GENESIS version 11 launched in February 2025. Both lines are currently marketed. GENESIS64 received a version 10.98 release in March 2026, which the vendor describes as a sustainability release and the first step towards planning for GENESIS 11, urging customers to upgrade while preparing for a future migration. No end-of-life date for GENESIS64 is published.
It is pure software with no hardware line, described as an automation software suite for digitalisation projects covering control systems, data historisation, notifications and analytics. The module estate carried over from GENESIS64 is mature and is the real substance of the product: Hyper Historian, Hyper Alarm Server, AlarmWorX64 Viewer, TrendWorX64, BridgeWorX, CFSWorX, Energy AnalytiX, KPIWorX, Quality AnalytiX and IoTWorX, with MobileHMI, DeviceXPlorer OPC Server and a Docker-based DeviceGateway listed as related products. Solution areas named include SCADA, alarm management, data historian, energy management, analytics, industrial IoT, mobility, OEE, SPC, MES and OPC connectivity, and the listed target industries include smart buildings, buildings and facilities, and data centres.
This profile classifies it as scada-hmi rather than a building management system, because its own pages position it SCADA first with buildings as one vertical, and because the version 11 pages explicitly position Mitsubishi Electric equipment as the preferred match, which hints at a plant-first roadmap.
The commercial change in version 11 is significant and worth putting in front of a buyer: the editions are unlimited. Mitsubishi Electric states unlimited clients, unlimited alarming, unlimited data historian, unlimited asset structures, unlimited reporting and unlimited tags, with fewer part numbers and simpler quoting. In a category where point-count licensing dominates and makes large estates expensive and change-averse, flat unlimited-tag licensing is a genuine differentiator for very large point counts such as campus portfolios and data centres. No prices are published; the US site offers a build your quote flow and contact sales.
Protocol coverage is better documented than the product pages alone suggest, once you find the right vendor sources. OPC UA is central, with the vendor citing extensive use of the OPC UA security model to secure communications and shipping DeviceXPlorer OPC Server, and OPC UA Pub/Sub is listed separately. BACnet is confirmed and certified: a vendor press release of 20 July 2026 states that GENESIS is BTL certified as a BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation, and version 11.04 in April 2026 expanded BACnet and BACnet Secure Connect support with native handling of alarms, trends, schedules and calendars. The vendor data connectivity material also names Modbus, SNMP, MQTT with Sparkplug B, AMQP, RESTful web service queries and Azure IoT Hub publishing. KNX is the one gap: it appears on no vendor page that could be read, so it is recorded as unknown. Authentication is modern, with Microsoft Entra ID and SAML named on the products pages.
The latest release found is 11.05, announced 18 June 2026, moving to a .NET 10 code base and adding containerisation with Kubernetes orchestration for WebHMI user scalability, Azure Maps, Office 365 notification integration and native Mitsubishi Electric MX controller support. Two caveats remain. Full technical documentation at documentation.iconics.com is login gated, which closes off deeper independent verification, although the older docs.iconics.com help is readable. And the version choice problem persists: two overlapping lines are marketed simultaneously with no published GENESIS64 end-of-life date, so buyers must resolve the migration question at purchase rather than after.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Unlimited licensing in version 11, covering unlimited clients, tags, alarming, historian, asset structures and reporting, which removes point-count cost scaling on very large estates. verified source
- Source-agnostic historisation and visualisation, described as able to historise and visualise data regardless of source or format, on a deep OPC UA foundation that includes use of the OPC UA security model. verified source
- A mature module estate carried over from GENESIS64, including Hyper Historian, Hyper Alarm Server, TrendWorX64, Energy AnalytiX, KPIWorX and IoTWorX. verified source
- A clearly documented upgrade path: GENESIS64 version 10.98 is published as the staging release before migrating to version 11. verified source
- BTL certified as a BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation, with version 11.04 expanding BACnet and BACnet Secure Connect support and native handling of alarms, trends, schedules and calendars. verified source
Limitations
- KNX is not named on any vendor page that could be read, and no HVAC control sequence capability is described anywhere, so this is a visualisation, historisation and analytics suite rather than a controls platform. editorial
- Two overlapping product lines are marketed simultaneously and GENESIS64 has no published end-of-life date, so buyers face a version choice and migration question at purchase. verified source
- Full technical documentation is login gated, limiting independent evaluation, and the suite is an industrial SCADA platform with buildings as one vertical while the version 11 pages name Mitsubishi Electric equipment as the preferred match. editorial
Who it suits
Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise
Who it fits. Large and enterprise estates with very high point counts, where unlimited-tag licensing makes the cost curve flat: campus portfolios, data centres and sites that mix building systems with plant and process equipment. It suits organisations already standardised on OPC UA, and especially those already running Mitsubishi Electric programmable controllers, which the version 11 pages name as the preferred equipment match. Where the requirement is deep historisation, analytics, KPIs and reporting rather than HVAC sequence execution, the module estate is stronger than most building head-ends.
Who it does not fit. Projects where KNX is a primary field protocol, since KNX appears on no vendor page that could be read. Projects wanting a conventional building head-end with HVAC sequence libraries and control programming, because no control sequence capability is described anywhere: this is a visualisation, historisation and analytics suite, not a controls platform. Buyers who need the full technical documentation to evaluate, since the current documentation portal is login gated. Buyers who want a clear single current version, given that GENESIS64 and GENESIS 11 are marketed at once with no published end-of-life date. And organisations without a Windows server estate, since the suite is a Microsoft and .NET platform.
Typical use. Enterprise SCADA and data visualisation across facilities and plant, sold through the Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation distributor and integrator channel plus the legacy ICONICS partner network, with US quoting through a build your quote flow.

Frequently asked questions
The current line is GENESIS version 11, which dropped the 64 suffix when it launched in February 2025. GENESIS64 still exists and is still sold, with a version 10.98 release in March 2026 positioned as the staging step before migrating to version 11. The vendor is now Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions, Inc., following the 2019 acquisition of ICONICS.
Yes, and it is certified. A vendor press release dated 20 July 2026 states that GENESIS is BTL certified as a BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation, and version 11.04 expanded BACnet and BACnet Secure Connect support with native handling of alarms, trends, schedules and calendars. Modbus, SNMP, MQTT with Sparkplug B, AMQP, RESTful web service queries and Azure IoT Hub publishing are also named by the vendor. KNX is not, so treat KNX as unverified.
In unlimited editions: unlimited clients, alarming, data historian, asset structures, reporting and tags, which the vendor describes as fewer part numbers and simpler quoting. No prices are published and quoting goes through a build your quote flow or sales contact.
