What it is

This is a sensor-hardware-plus-subscription offering, with a genuine software caveat in Nanoprecise’s favour. The hardware is MachineDoctor, a wireless battery-operated sensor that Nanoprecise describes as measuring six parameters in one device: three-dimensional vibration, acoustic emission, surface temperature, humidity, true RPM and magnetic flux. Variants include WiFi and LTE models and a light-harvesting LUX model powered from ambient light. The software layer is RotationLF, a cloud platform Nanoprecise describes as a scalable and sensor-agnostic AI-based platform providing anomaly detection, fault diagnosis, mean time to failure prediction and decision support, and which it states can also ingest existing vibration sensor data. That last point matters: unlike Augury, Nanoprecise does claim it can work with instrumentation you already have, which makes it a hybrid of the two models in this category. Confirm that claim against your specific sensors before relying on it.

Commercially the model is per-sensor annual licensing. Nanoprecise is listed on AWS Marketplace with RotationLF licensed per sensor on a twelve-month contract, priced differently for the LTE and WiFi sensor variants, and AWS guidance material describes the solution as priced by sensor and providing both hardware and a SaaS platform so you pay only for the assets monitored. Those figures are not recorded as the published price in this profile because AWS Marketplace is a reseller channel rather than the vendor’s own site, and the directory standard is vendor-published pricing only. The model, per sensor per year, is nonetheless well established.

On mechanism, Nanoprecise is more specific than most at the sensing layer and vaguer at the modelling layer. Naming six measured parameters including acoustic emission and magnetic flux is a concrete, checkable technical statement, and acoustic emission in particular is relevant to early-stage bearing damage and to low-speed assets. But anomaly detection, fault diagnosis and mean time to failure are listed as platform benefits without any description of the models, the data history required or the failure modes covered, so failure prediction is recorded as unknown and anomaly detection likewise. Nanoprecise publishes a false-alarm reduction percentage and AWS guidance mentions a conditional ROI refund; neither is recorded here, the first because it is a marketing claim and the second because it is a commercial term stated by a third party.

Deployment is better than typical for this segment: RotationLF is described as able to run on private cloud or on-premises, not only in a vendor-hosted multi-tenant cloud, which matters for sites with data residency or OT isolation constraints. Sensata Technologies led an investment in the company in 2021.

NoteThe model is per-sensor annual licensing on a twelve-month contract, with the LTE and WiFi sensor variants priced differently. Figures appear on an AWS Marketplace listing, which is a reseller channel and not the vendor own site, so under this directory standard no figure is recorded and pricing_public is 0. No pricing was found on nanoprecise.io. Validate directly with Nanoprecise. AWS guidance also mentions a conditional ROI-based partial refund; that is a third-party-stated commercial term and is not recorded as fact.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Concrete, checkable sensing specification: one wireless device measuring three-dimensional vibration, acoustic emission, surface temperature, humidity, true RPM and magnetic flux, with WiFi, LTE and light-harvesting variants. verified source
  • Not locked to vendor hardware in principle: Nanoprecise describes RotationLF as sensor agnostic and able to ingest existing vibration sensor data, and offers private cloud or on-premises deployment. verified source

Limitations

  • The analytics are undescribed. Anomaly detection, fault diagnosis and mean time to failure are listed as benefits with no model, data requirement or failure mode detail, so the predictive side cannot be assessed. editorial
  • Per-sensor annual licensing scales linearly, so plant-wide coverage of hundreds of machines becomes expensive compared with a flat platform licence. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Small, Medium, Enterprise

Fits: small, mid-sized and large plants that want to instrument a defined set of machines and pay per sensor, which is the most transparent cost model in this part of the category. The six-in-one sensing, particularly acoustic emission and true RPM, suits rotating assets where early bearing degradation and variable-speed operation make vibration-only monitoring harder to read. The private cloud and on-premises options suit buyers in regulated or network-restricted environments who cannot send OT data to a vendor cloud. Because licensing is per sensor on an annual contract, a pilot on a handful of machines is genuinely practical, which is rare here.

Does not fit: organisations that need verified, documented integration into enterprise systems, because no named CMMS, ERP, historian, API or protocol support could be confirmed from Nanoprecise. It is also not the right choice for a buyer who needs to understand and audit the models, since nothing about the analytics is described beyond the capability names. Sites wanting plant-wide coverage of hundreds of machines should model the per-sensor annual cost carefully, as the economics differ sharply from a flat-fee platform licence.

Typical use cases: instrumenting a critical subset of motors, pumps, fans, gearboxes and compressors with wireless sensors and no cabling project; monitoring low-speed or variable-speed assets where acoustic emission and true RPM add signal; running a small, bounded pilot before committing to a programme; monitoring remote or hard-to-cable locations using the LTE or light-harvesting sensor variants.

Buyer caution: test the sensor-agnostic claim against your actual existing sensors in the pilot, and get integration to your CMMS, and any API, confirmed in writing. Validate pricing directly with Nanoprecise rather than from a marketplace listing.

Alternatives

Augury Machine Health Augury The fully bundled alternative, with the single biggest difference stated plainly: Augury cannot use your existing sensors, where Nanoprecise states it can. Augury does not sell hardware and charges a flat fee per machine per year covering sensors, software, connectivity, installation, support and unlimited diagnostics, which is more predictable than per-sensor licensing. No on-premises option could be verified, and no named CMMS integration or API is published.
WATCHMAN by Azima DLI, a Fluke Reliability company Fluke Reliability (Fortive) Adds the human layer Nanoprecise does not have: ISO Level II to IV certified vibration analysts providing coaching, second opinions and analysis alongside WATCHMAN and Azima Accel 310 wireless sensors. It is a subscription monitoring service rather than a per-sensor licence, no third-party sensor support is stated so existing instrumentation is not leveraged, and no on-premises option was verified.
Infinite Uptime PlantOS Infinite Uptime Comparable hardware plus service shape with more published method: mechanical and process-induced fault signatures as the detection basis, Dynamic FMEA named, root cause identification, risk-based ranking through Plant Fusion, and work order prescriptions over an open API. It also accepts third-party sensor, PLC and historian data. It is an outcome service contract, and no deployment architecture is published, where Nanoprecise states private cloud or on-premises.
SKF @ptitude Observer SKF The option if you want owned, licensable diagnostics software with real bearing and rotating machinery expertise behind it, on SQL Server on-premises, with a Phoenix API other systems can pull from. The trade-off reverses Nanoprecise's main advantage: Observer is documented against SKF acquisition hardware and third-party sensor support was not verified, so you are committing to an SKF measurement chain and you need an analyst on staff.
Falkonry Time Series AI Falkonry Software only, for a site that already has telemetry and wants to analyse it rather than add sensors. Falkonry is sensor agnostic, names Modbus and OPC UA against existing SCADA, DCS and PLC systems, offers edge, on-premises, air-gapped and sovereign deployment, and lets you test the premise through a free one-week offline trial on historical Parquet data. It supplies no measurement chain and no diagnostics for specific machine types.

Frequently asked questions

Both, bundled. MachineDoctor is the wireless sensor and RotationLF is the cloud analytics platform, licensed per sensor on an annual contract. Unusually for this segment, Nanoprecise also describes RotationLF as sensor agnostic and able to ingest existing vibration sensor data, so the software is not strictly tied to its own hardware.

Nanoprecise states RotationLF can run on private cloud or on-premises, which is unusual in this part of the category and relevant for sites that cannot send OT data to a vendor cloud.

The model is per sensor per year on a twelve-month contract. Figures appear on an AWS Marketplace listing rather than on Nanoprecise own site, so no amount is recorded in this directory. Validate pricing directly with the vendor.
