What it is

Naming. ABB launched this in 2021 as the ABB Ability Genix Asset Performance Management (APM) Suite. It is now a tiered family rather than one application: ABB-hosted documentation describes Genix APM as an integrated suite, and the named variants are Genix APM Predict, Genix APM Predict 360, Genix APM Perform 360 and Genix APM Assess 360. ABB has separately launched a Genix Asset Performance Management Copilot built with Microsoft that summarises critical events and offers contextual analytics and recommendations. The module name in a quote matters, because the tiers are not equivalent.

Sensor requirement: ABB hardware is not required, and this is now established from ABB’s own datasheet rather than inferred. ABB describes Genix APM Predict as bringing together condition information from disparate systems into one browser-based dashboard, gathering and integrating information from electrical, vibration and process equipment, devices, and telecom and IT systems. The datasheet claims quick integration into the existing OT system landscape and extensive connectivity to IoT devices and to ABB control systems, naming 800xA and System 800xA S+. So ABB control systems are a first-class named integration, not a precondition. The honest qualifier is that ABB names no third-party historian, no OPC version and no third-party control system, so while the architecture is clearly designed to consume data you already have, the specific connector coverage for a non-ABB estate still needs confirming in writing. ABB’s own pitch leans on in-house knowledge of the monitored systems from the device to the end user, which tells you where the product is strongest.

What Predict actually is: condition monitoring, and ABB says so. The datasheet calls it a fully integrated condition monitoring system that enables a path to predictive maintenance, and describes aggregated condition status and fault statistics for equipment groups, user-configurable equipment groupings, tracking of fault-status counts over time, a drag-and-drop dashboard editor and a comment and share tool for collaborative problem solving. That phrasing, a path to predictive maintenance, is notably more modest than most of this category and is to ABB’s credit. It is also why failure prediction and anomaly detection are recorded as unknown here: ABB does not claim a prediction mechanism for Predict, and this directory does not invent one. The higher tiers, Predict 360, Perform 360 and Assess 360, may differ, but no datasheet for them could be read.

Deployment is now confirmed: ABB states hosting flexibility on-premises or in the cloud, and modularity so customers can add functionality incrementally rather than committing to a large rollout. ABB also offers, as an add-on, having ABB personnel monitor and manage the equipment, alongside condition monitoring, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance services, so a managed-service wrapper is available if you want one. No pricing is published.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. Not verified No API documentation verified. ABB-hosted Genix documentation was only reachable on internal development hostnames and was not relied on.
Work order and CMMS integration Creating or updating maintenance work from APM output. Not verified No CMMS or EAM work order integration named in the ABB datasheet.
Digital twin A simulation or model-based twin of physical assets. Not verified Not described in any readable ABB source.
Root cause analysis Structured root cause analysis of failures. Not verified
FMEA support Failure mode and effects analysis within the product. Not verified
Reliability-centred maintenance Structured RCM analysis and strategy development. Not verified
Reliability modelling Reliability and availability modelling of assets or systems. Not verified No RCM, FMEA or reliability method named.
Failure prediction Predicting failure or remaining useful life. Recorded only where a source describes it, not from AI claims. Not verified ABB claims only that Predict provides a path to predictive maintenance and describes no prediction mechanism, data requirement or failure mode. Deliberately not credited. Higher tiers may differ but no datasheet for them could be read.
Anomaly detection Detecting deviation from normal behaviour. Recorded only where a source describes the mechanism. Not verified No anomaly detection mechanism described in the ABB datasheet.

NoteNo figure published. ABB sells industrial software through direct and distributor channels, and the Genix APM Predict datasheet states the product is offered both as Software as a Service and as a perpetual licence, which is a useful commercial fact, but no amount, unit or band is published by ABB. Budget separately for the optional ABB remote monitoring and managed service wrapper.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Does not require ABB hardware. ABB states Predict brings together condition information from disparate systems, integrates electrical, vibration, process, telecom and IT data, and offers quick integration into the existing OT system landscape plus extensive IoT device connectivity. verified source
  • Flexible to deploy and buy: ABB states hosting on-premises or in the cloud, modularity so functionality can be added incrementally without a large costly rollout, and availability as either SaaS or a perpetual licence. verified source
  • Honest positioning. ABB describes Predict as a condition monitoring system that enables a path to predictive maintenance, rather than claiming failure prediction it does not describe. verified source

Limitations

  • Connector detail is ABB-centric. The only named control systems are ABB 800xA and S+, and ABB names no third-party historian, no OPC version and no competing control system, so coverage of a non-ABB estate must be confirmed. verified source
  • Only the entry tier is documented publicly. No datasheet could be read for Predict 360, Perform 360 or Assess 360, so the higher tiers remain unevaluated and no reliability method, API or CMMS integration is verified anywhere in the family. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

Fits: process and heavy industry operators, with the strongest fit where ABB is already the automation, drives or electrification supplier, since 800xA and S+ connectivity is named explicitly and ABB’s stated advantage is in-house competence on the systems being monitored. It genuinely suits buyers whose first problem is fragmentation rather than prediction: the product’s clearest value is pulling electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and automation condition data into one browser view with aggregated fault statistics per equipment group. The modularity and on-premises or cloud choice make a single-system starting point practical, so a mid-sized site can begin small.

Does not fit: buyers who want verified machine learning failure prediction, because ABB claims only a path to predictive maintenance for Predict and describes no prediction mechanism. It is also a weaker fit for a largely non-ABB estate until connector coverage is confirmed, since ABB names no third-party historian, OPC version or competing control system. Organisations needing an auditable reliability method, RCM or FMEA, should look at the reliability-modelling entries instead, as none is named here.

Typical use cases: consolidating condition status for electrical and rotating equipment from several systems into one dashboard; tracking fault-status counts over time by equipment group to prioritise work; giving remote and cross-discipline staff secure access to equipment data without putting more users near the control network, which ABB names as a security benefit; adding ABB-run remote monitoring as a managed service on top.

Buyer caution: get three things in writing. Which tier is quoted, Predict, Predict 360, Perform 360 or Assess 360, since they are not equivalent; the connector list for your non-ABB systems, including historian and OPC specifics, which ABB does not publish; and whether the Copilot and the ABB monitoring service are included or separately priced.

Alternatives

AMS Optics Emerson The strongest swap on the thing ABB does not publish. If your estate is non-ABB, AMS Optics documents classic OPC, OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, ODBC and custom web APIs on ingress, OPC and REST on egress, a named DeltaV connector and history transfer to the PI System and Aspen IP.21, plus its own embedded historian. Cloud, on-premises and hybrid are all supported. Like Genix APM Predict, it is not credited with failure prediction: Emerson attributes that to Aspen Mtell.
Honeywell Forge Asset Performance Management Honeywell The step up in scope from the same kind of vendor. Explicitly vendor-agnostic, on-premises or cloud, modular, with a named CMMS work order integration module, a library of over forty asset types and one hundred variants containing fault models and fault trees, and failure prediction verified with named failure modes, which Genix APM Predict does not claim. It names no RCM or FMEA method, and its asset library coverage is unpublished.
GE Vernova Asset Performance Management GE Vernova Broader and more modular for a multi-site industrial estate, adding asset strategy, integrity and inspection, with no vendor hardware required and modules licensable individually. Both products assert or imply prediction without describing a mechanism, so neither is credited with failure prediction and the swap gains you nothing there. GE Vernova also states no on-premises option, which ABB does, and publishes no licensing posture, where ABB states SaaS or perpetual.
Predictive Asset Intelligence SymphonyAI Directly addresses ABB's residual weakness, which is that connector detail is ABB-centric with no third-party historian, OPC version or competing control system named. SymphonyAI names AVEVA PI System, AspenTech, SAP, SCADA and CMMS, claims more than one hundred pre-built connectors and offers edge as well as cloud and hybrid. No strict on-premises option is stated, which ABB offers, and its failure prediction method is not published either.

Frequently asked questions

ABB launched it in 2021 as the ABB Ability Genix Asset Performance Management (APM) Suite. It is now a tiered family: Genix APM Predict, Genix APM Predict 360, Genix APM Perform 360 and Genix APM Assess 360, with a separate Genix Asset Performance Management Copilot built with Microsoft.

No. ABB’s own datasheet describes Predict as bringing together condition information from disparate systems, integrating electrical, vibration and process equipment, device, telecom and IT data, with quick integration into the existing OT system landscape and extensive IoT device connectivity. ABB control systems 800xA and S+ are named integrations rather than requirements. ABB does not, however, name any third-party historian or OPC version, so confirm coverage for a non-ABB estate.

ABB claims only that it is a condition monitoring system that enables a path to predictive maintenance, and it describes no prediction mechanism. On that basis failure prediction and anomaly detection are recorded as unknown here.

Yes. ABB states deployment flexibility allows hosting on-premises or in the cloud, and the product is offered as SaaS or as a perpetual licence.
