Oracle Fusion Field Service vs SAP Field Service Management
This is the enterprise suite comparison: two field service applications whose main reason to exist is that you already run the vendor ERP. Neither publishes a price. Both vendor marketing sites returned HTTP 403 to automated access, oracle.com on every marketing path including the product page and sap.com on every path tried, so everything here comes from documentation, learning content and an app store listing rather than from marketing pages.
Both names have drifted. Oracle calls it Oracle Fusion Field Service, and Oracle is not consistent with itself: the documentation library heading reads Oracle Fusion Field Service, the REST API document title reads REST API for Oracle Fusion Field Service Cloud Service, and the 26D release notes call it simply Field Service. Four names circulate inside Oracle own estate, so pin the SKU down in writing. SAP, by contrast, still uses the string SAP Field Service Management verbatim in 2026, and the product has not been folded into SAP Service Cloud or S/4HANA Service. SAP own portfolio material draws the line explicitly: Service Cloud handles customer interaction, S/4HANA is the backbone for master data, logistics, financials and order handling, and Field Service Management covers planning, dispatching and mobile execution with its own platform, web UI, mobile apps and release stream.

The products
Oracle Fusion Field Service
Oracle
Oracle cloud field service application within Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications. Routes and schedules activities to mobile resources with unusually deep public REST control of the routing engine, and task-by-task documented offline behaviour.

SAP
SAP cloud field service solution for planning, dispatching and mobile execution, still separately marketed in 2026 alongside SAP Service Cloud and S/4HANA. Notable for native crowd service dispatch to partners and subcontractors.
Full profileThe main differences
Oracle: programmatic control of the optimiser, and honest offline limits
The routing story is the strongest part. Oracle publishes REST endpoints covering routing profiles, routing plans, routing runs, rollback and run reports with pagination and scoped authentication. That is unusually deep external control of an optimiser: you can drive the scheduler from outside the UI rather than only configuring it through screens, with constraints and priorities set at plan level. Field managers work from a team map and Gantt view. Work orders integrate bi-directionally with Oracle Fusion Service out of the box through Oracle Integration, where Fusion Service work orders create, update, reschedule, cancel and complete Field Service activities.
Oracle offline is documented task by task, and Oracle own marketing overstates it. Offline you can activate the route, reorder activities, edit activity details, set statuses, and add, edit, install, deinstall and exchange inventory. You cannot view maps or directions, reschedule an activity, change resource, view activity history, download or view files or signatures, or use Smart Location, and as a manager you cannot reach Routing, Capacity or Forecasting. Oracle marketing copy claiming full offline access conflicts with that documentation. This directory could not reconcile the two and does not pick the more flattering one: we report both, treat the documentation as the specific source, and flag the discrepancy. Offline is also gated commercially, requiring a subscription to Oracle Fusion Field Service Professional, Enterprise or Mobility Cloud Service, so it is not inherent to the base product. Inventory transactions working offline is genuinely useful and rarer than vendors imply.
SAP: crowd service, QR-code self-service and a Windows app
The dispatching board supports drag-and-drop assignment and release, reservations, absences and team planning, with manual, assisted and automatic assignment and skill-based matching, and autoscheduling customisable to business criteria. Treat route optimisation as partial: assisted planning optimises resource utilisation and travel time, and a service map shows route total travel time and distance, but that is travel-time optimisation inside assisted planning rather than an independently documented multi-stop optimiser.
Crowd service is the genuine differentiator. SAP describes a pool of certified and trained partners and third-party vendors available to respond to service calls, and native subcontractor dispatch of that kind is uncommon. If a meaningful share of your field work is delivered by partners rather than employees, read field service KPIs, SLAs and contractor management before you shortlist. SAP also ships a customer self-service portal where customers view service calls and equipment and create a call by scanning a QR code, which is rare at this tier, and native apps on iOS, Android and Windows, which matters for Windows tablet fleets.
SAP states full offline capability on native apps for iOS, Android and Windows, and the App Store listing says full offline support when out of mobile coverage. No contradicting SAP statement was found, so it is recorded as supported. But no SAP page enumerating offline limits was readable, so the word full is an unqualified vendor claim rather than a verified specification. That is the opposite trade to Oracle: SAP claim is broader and less checkable, Oracle claim is narrower and precisely bounded.

Oracle Fusion Field Service

Read the full assessmentWhich to choose
Choose on the ERP you already run, because that is most of the value in both cases. Oracle suits large field organisations already buying Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications, and it is the better pick for engineering-led teams who want to drive the scheduling optimiser by API. SAP suits enterprise service organisations running S/4HANA as the backbone with Service Cloud in the front office, and it is the clear winner where subcontractors and certified partners deliver part of the work, or where technicians carry Windows tablets. SAP frames its own product as one of three solutions that must integrate for an end-to-end process, which is honest and also means FSM alone is only part of the picture.
On offline, prefer the bounded answer to the broad one. A technician in a basement on Oracle can set statuses and move inventory but cannot navigate or see history, and you know that in advance. On SAP you are told offline is full and cannot check what full excludes. Confirm which Oracle subscription tier you are being quoted, since offline depends on it, and ask SAP for written offline exclusions. Service contracts, quoting, invoicing and SLA management could not be verified for either product.
Frequently asked questions
No. Offline is a documented subset and it is gated by subscription tier, requiring Professional, Enterprise or Mobility Cloud Service. Offline you can activate a route, reorder activities, edit details, set statuses and move inventory. You cannot use maps or directions, reschedule, change resource, view activity history, or view files and signatures. Oracle marketing copy claiming full offline access conflicts with this documentation, and this directory reports the conflict rather than resolving it.
SAP states full offline capability on its iOS, Android and Windows apps, and the App Store listing repeats it for periods out of mobile coverage. No SAP statement contradicts that, so it is recorded as supported. However, no SAP page enumerating offline limits was readable, so full is an unqualified vendor claim. Ask for written exclusions during evaluation.
No. SAP still uses the name verbatim in 2026, its iOS app was at version 26.10.0 at the time of research, and an SAP support article documents a planning and dispatching board change in the 2602 release. SAP marketing has moved it under a broader Field Service and Asset Management umbrella URL, but the product remains separately marketed with its own release stream.
On SAP, yes, through crowd service, described as a pool of certified and trained partners and third-party vendors available to respond to service calls. Oracle documentation opened during research did not describe an equivalent, so that is unverified rather than absent on the Oracle side.
