GridPoint vs Atrius Energy

Start with a disclosure, because it changes how you should read everything below. These are the two thinnest records in this category, and the thinness is on both sides. For GridPoint, only the vendor home page could be read; deeper pages were not explored, so this profile may well understate the product. For Atrius Energy, the acuitybrands.com product page returned HTTP 403 to automated access, and the page that did load, on atrius.com, is substantially a dashboard feature page. Metering, utility bills, benchmarking and API access are all unverified for Atrius as a result. Neither profile is wrong, but neither is complete, and a shortlist decision between them needs a vendor call rather than a desk comparison.

With that said, the two products are pointed in visibly different directions, and that much is clear from what each vendor does publish.

GridPoint acts. It is an energy intelligence and automated building operations platform aimed at small commercial sites, collecting data from HVAC, refrigeration and lighting. Documented capability includes anomaly detection, fault detection, building system integration, tariff analysis and demand management. HVAC advanced scheduling automates equipment against time of use rates, occupancy, sensors and daylight, which very few platforms in this category attempt. Demand management and grid interactive capability is a core offering, with utilities named as a customer segment, which opens demand response participation as a revenue line rather than only efficiency savings.

Atrius Energy reports and publishes. Formerly BuildingOS, it is an energy data centralisation and dashboarding product from Acuity. Documented capability is dashboards and reporting, with strong data sharing features: scheduled email reports, login free shareable links and a public display mode. That combination suits universities and public bodies that publish performance openly, and it is a genuinely distinctive strength. The product is actively invested in: Acuity fiscal 2026 earnings commentary places Atrius within the Intelligent Spaces business alongside Distech and QSC, with AI features being added.

The main differences

The one explicit negative in either profile

Atrius Energy does not do carbon and sustainability reporting. That is not an unverified gap, it is the vendor own position: Acuity assigns that function to a separate product, Atrius Sustainability. A buyer with an ESG disclosure requirement should expect two line items, and should not shortlist Atrius Energy alone against a platform that includes carbon reporting.

What each side cannot be assessed on

  • GridPoint: metering and submetering, utility bills, carbon reporting, benchmarking, dashboards by name, documented API and mobile access could not be verified from published sources. No integration protocol is named anywhere, so the integration list is empty even though the product clearly interfaces with HVAC, refrigeration and lighting equipment.
  • Atrius Energy: metering, utility bills, benchmarking, API, mobile access, water and gas, tariff analysis, anomaly detection, fault detection, building integration and demand management could not be verified from published sources. The readable page simply does not cover them.

Commercial posture

Neither publishes a figure. GridPoint mentions customisable and out of the box packages, a free energy analysis and a three month pilot; the pilot is a trial, not a free version. Given the control capability, expect hardware and installation cost, though the vendor does not say so. Atrius offers a demo booking and a contact page only. Note a vendor name correction worth knowing for your paperwork: Acuity Brands dropped Brands from its name in March 2025 and is now Acuity Inc.

Who each one targets

GridPoint targets small, medium and enterprise buyers, consistent with a small commercial site and multi site chain focus. Atrius Energy targets medium and enterprise buyers.

Not verified means the capability has not been checked for that product. It does not mean the product lacks it. Blank cells and unverified rows are never counted as a "no".

Strengths and limitations

Drawn from each product's own profile, where every item is labelled a verified fact or an editorial judgement.

Which to choose

If your estate is many small similar sites with HVAC, refrigeration and lighting, and the goal is to reduce consumption and cost automatically rather than to report on it, GridPoint is the product shaped for that job. Scheduling against time of use rates and demand management are the mechanisms that produce the savings, and almost nothing else in this category does them. Accept that you are buying a hardware and installation project and that data portability is an open question to settle in the contract.

If your estate is a campus or a public portfolio and the goal is a credible shared view of performance that stakeholders can see without logging in, Atrius Energy is pointed at that and the sharing features are unusually well developed. Budget for Atrius Sustainability alongside it if carbon reporting is in scope.

Because both records are thin, go into the vendor calls with a written capability list and get yes or no answers on API access, protocol support and the pricing basis. For the control and automation side of GridPoint, BMS vs SCADA, when to use which and occupancy sensing for building systems are the relevant background. For the reporting side of Atrius, see energy management systems for buildings.

Frequently asked questions

No. Acuity assigns carbon and sustainability reporting to a separate product, Atrius Sustainability. This is the vendor own position rather than an unverified gap, so a buyer with an ESG requirement should expect two products.

For GridPoint, only the vendor home page was readable, so the profile may understate the product. For Atrius Energy, the acuitybrands.com product page returned HTTP 403 to automated access and the page that loaded is essentially a dashboard feature page. No workaround was used to get past the block.

It is the successor. Acuity own Atrius material states the BuildingOS rebrand to Atrius Energy plus Atrius Sustainability. The product is active: Acuity fiscal 2026 earnings commentary places it in the Intelligent Spaces business with AI features being added.

GridPoint, on current evidence. Demand management, tariff analysis and HVAC scheduling against time of use rates are all documented, and utilities are a named customer segment. Demand management could not be verified for Atrius Energy from published sources.

Sources and review basis

Attribute values come from each product's structured profile rather than being written into this page, so a correction made once appears everywhere. This comparison was last reviewed on 7 November 2026. Assessment of this category is documentation-based, not hands-on testing of every product.
