Bentley AssetWise Reliability versus GE Vernova APM

Neither of these products requires you to buy the vendor's sensors, and for Bentley the more important point is the reverse of the usual one. The AssetWise Reliability page makes no claim about historian ingestion and names no historian product, no SCADA system, no OPC version and no protocols. This is not a condition-monitoring platform streaming live tag data. It is a reliability engineering and inspection system that works from operational and inspection data, condition indicators and assessment results. GE Vernova sits the other way round: it states ingestion from sensors, edge devices, IT and OT systems and names AWS, with historians, EAM and CMMS referenced generically in its FAQ without naming products.

Bentley is the clearest reliability-modelling product in this category and it is specific about method. Bentley names RCM2, FMEA, RBI for risk based inspection, SIF, MTA and CPR as supported methodologies. That is a concrete, checkable list of reliability engineering techniques, and it is why the product belongs in an APM directory even though it does not market itself on machine learning. It also covers risk assessment, asset prioritisation and asset condition assessment, scoring assets for refurbishment, upgrade or replacement. Its lineage runs back to Ivara, and that heritage is still visible in what it does well.

On the predictive side the two records are closer than the marketing suggests. For Bentley no anomaly detection or failure prediction mechanism is described at all, and the product is openly method led rather than machine learning led. For GE Vernova the claim exists but the mechanism does not: the page says the software can predict potential equipment failures but states no models, no data history requirement and no covered failure modes, so failure prediction and anomaly detection could not be verified from published sources. Buying GE Vernova for prediction on the strength of the website alone is not something this directory can support.

The main differences

Architecture detail: Bentley wins outright. Bentley states the product can be hosted by Bentley, run on-premises, or self-hosted or third-party hosted, that the database is Microsoft SQL Server, and that authentication options include OpenID, Active Directory federation, multi-factor authentication and Windows authentication. Those are exactly the details an enterprise architecture review asks for and most vendors in this category do not publish them. GE Vernova describes cloud delivery and says nothing about on-premises or hybrid, so both are recorded as unknown.

Integration: GE Vernova wins, but only narrowly, and from a low base. Bentley names no integrations at all: no ERP, no EAM, no CMMS, no historian, no API. Assume connecting AssetWise Reliability to your systems of record is a project, and get the mechanism and effort confirmed in writing before signing. GE Vernova at least names AWS explicitly and references historians, EAM and CMMS in its FAQ, though it names no products and does not state bidirectional work order creation. Neither publishes API documentation.

Scope. GE Vernova covers more ground. Asset health, reliability assessment, asset strategy, integrity and inspection all appear as named areas, and the applications can be deployed individually as separate modules or together, so a buyer can start with asset health without committing to integrity and strategy. Bentley is deliberately narrower and better at that narrow thing: running named standards consistently across a large estate and keeping the evidence trail. Bentley does frame the product around digital twins in its own FAQ, which is positioning rather than a described mechanism, and is recorded with that caveat attached.

Commercials. Neither publishes a price. Bentley's page carries a Request pricing action and directs enterprise licensing enquiries to a contact form. GE Vernova offers a contact form, a brochure and a demo hub. Neither has a free tier or a verifiable trial.

Not verified means the capability has not been checked for that product. It does not mean the product lacks it. Blank cells and unverified rows are never counted as a "no".

Which to choose

These products answer different questions and should rarely be a genuine either-or. Choose AssetWise Reliability if you have a formal reliability engineering or mechanical integrity function and your deliverable is an auditable maintenance strategy: RCM2 and FMEA studies at scale kept as a living strategy, risk based inspection programmes for pressure equipment and pipework, condition assessment to justify refurbish, upgrade or replace decisions. It also suits a strong preference for on-premises or self-hosted deployment, which Bentley explicitly supports. It will not give you early warning from live sensor data, and RCM2 and FMEA are labour-intensive methods that software does not supply the judgement for.

Choose GE Vernova APM if you need breadth across asset health, strategy, integrity and inspection in one modular suite for a multi-site industrial or energy estate, and you are prepared to establish the predictive mechanism and the connector list in a technical workshop rather than from published material. Ask which codebase and release a quote refers to, given the Predix, GE Digital and GE Vernova brand generations.

If you are weighing method against detection, read RCM versus predictive maintenance and asset criticality classification, which is the step that decides how much of either you actually need.

Frequently asked questions

Not in the machine learning sense. It is reliability method led, built around RCM2, FMEA and risk based inspection, and the public page describes no anomaly detection or failure prediction mechanism. It builds proactive maintenance strategy rather than predicting failures from live sensor data.

Bentley. It states the product can be hosted by Bentley, deployed on-premises, or self-hosted or third-party hosted, on Microsoft SQL Server. GE Vernova describes cloud delivery and states nothing about on-premises, so that is recorded as unknown.

Bentley names no integrations at all on the product page, including no ERP, EAM, CMMS, historian or API. Treat integration as a project with a scope you get in writing before signing.

No. Neither requires vendor hardware. The more relevant point for Bentley is that it also makes no claim about historian or SCADA ingestion, so it is not a streaming condition monitoring platform at all.

Sources and review basis

Attribute values come from each product's structured profile rather than being written into this page, so a correction made once appears everywhere. This comparison was last reviewed on 7 November 2026. Assessment of this category is documentation-based, not hands-on testing of every product.
