BambooHR versus Bob by HiBob: the two mid market HRIS defaults, and what neither does for Gulf payroll
BambooHR and Bob, the product sold by Hi Bob, Inc. and usually called HiBob after its maker, are the two names that come up most often when a growing company replaces spreadsheets with a real HR system. They are genuinely similar in scope: employee records, time off, time and attendance, recruiting, onboarding and performance, with a documented API on both sides. They differ most in how openly they price and in how they handle payroll.
BambooHR is the more transparent of the two on cost, and it is one of only four products in this category with a usable published figure. Its pricing page prints three tiers with the currency stated explicitly as USD: Core at 10 USD, Pro at 17 USD and Elite at 25 USD per employee per month, with flat monthly rates for 25 or fewer employees of 250, 425 and 650 USD. One oddity is published rather than tidied away: the FAQ on the same page states 10.25 and 17.50 for Core and Pro, so BambooHR contradicts its own headline figures by 25 to 50 cents. Both numbers are recorded. HiBob publishes no price of its own at all; its pricing page lists demo options and describes enterprise pricing as custom.

Full profileThe main differences
Payroll, and specifically UAE payroll
This is where both products stop being candidates for a Gulf buyer, and the reasons are slightly different.
- BambooHR states that its payroll is designed to pay US based employees with US federal, state and local tax filing. That is the vendor own scoping sentence, not an inference. International options are local provider integrations where only the UK, Australia and New Zealand are named, marketplace global payroll partners, or an employer of record. The UAE, the Gulf, the GCC and WPS are never mentioned. UAE payroll could not be verified and the surrounding evidence is discouraging.
- Bob has native payroll for the US and the UK only. Its Payroll Hub is explicitly described as an integration and aggregation layer rather than a payroll engine, and HiBob names no UAE payroll provider. United Arab Emirates appears on the HiBob site only in a contact form country dropdown. UAE payroll could not be verified.
So for a UAE employer both are HR record systems that would sit alongside a separate local payroll product, and neither vendor tells you which one. What does not carry over from the US story is everything that makes US payroll feel solved: tax filing, statutory reporting and compliance. A UAE deployment of either means owning the WPS salary information file somewhere else entirely.
Where they genuinely differ for a buyer anywhere
BambooHR bundles more into the subscription tiers and then sells payroll, benefits administration, time and attendance and Global Employment as add ons with no published price, which means the headline 10 USD is a floor rather than a budget. Global Employment is powered by Remote, which is worth knowing: the employer of record underneath a BambooHR global hire is a third party. Volume discounts are automatic and a 15 percent bundle discount applies to a US payroll plus benefits combination.
Bob is the more flexible record on paper and the harder one to budget. Verified capabilities include time, time off through a documented Time Off API, recruiting and more, and apidocs.hibob.com is open and readable, which is a point in its favour for anyone planning integration work. The commercial opacity is the trade: a range of roughly 2 to 30 per person per month appears on the HiBob product page but is attributed to TrustRadius, a review aggregator, and is therefore not HiBob pricing and is not recorded as such here. A sandbox demo is offered, which is not a free trial. BambooHR does offer a free trial.

Not verified means the capability has not been checked for that product. It does not mean the product lacks it. Blank cells and unverified rows are never counted as a "no".

BambooHR
Read the full assessmentWhich to choose
For a US or UK centred company of 50 to 500 people, either works and the choice is genuinely about fit and feel. BambooHR is the safer procurement because you can build a budget from published numbers before you talk to anyone, with the caveat that the add on modules are unpriced and that the page disagrees with itself at the cents level. Bob asks you to enter a sales process to learn anything about cost.
For a UAE or Gulf employer, neither should be bought as a payroll solution and neither presents itself as one. If you want one of them as the HR record and you accept running payroll separately, that is a coherent architecture, and it is the architecture most Gulf buyers of either product end up with. Plan the handoff deliberately rather than discovering it later: payroll to ERP integration covers the mechanics of getting payroll results into a finance system, which is the part that usually gets left until after go live.
If UAE payroll is the actual requirement rather than the HR record, neither of these is the shortlist. Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM, Ramco Payce and the Zoho Payroll UAE edition are the products in this category with published WPS evidence.
Frequently asked questions
Neither could be verified and both point elsewhere. BambooHR states its payroll is designed to pay US based employees with US tax filing, and the only international local providers it names are the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Bob native payroll is US and UK only, and its Payroll Hub is explicitly an integration layer rather than a payroll engine. Neither mentions the Wage Protection System.
The pricing page prints Core 10 USD, Pro 17 USD and Elite 25 USD per employee per month, with the currency stated explicitly. For 25 or fewer employees there are flat monthly rates of 250, 425 and 650 USD. The FAQ on the same page says 10.25 and 17.50 for Core and Pro, so the page contradicts itself by 25 to 50 cents. Payroll, benefits administration, time and attendance and Global Employment are unpriced add ons, so treat the headline as a floor.
Because HiBob does not publish one. The pricing page lists demo options and describes enterprise pricing as custom. A range of roughly 2 to 30 per person per month appears on the HiBob product page but is attributed to TrustRadius, a review aggregator, so it is not vendor pricing and this directory does not record aggregator figures as prices.
BambooHR offers a free trial and no free version. HiBob offers a sandbox demo, which is not a free trial, and no free version. A six month or similar promotional offer is a programme rather than a free tier wherever it appears in this category.

Attribute values come from each product's structured profile rather than being written into this page, so a correction made once appears everywhere. This comparison was last reviewed on 7 November 2026. Assessment of this category is documentation-based, not hands-on testing of every product.
