What it is

AVEVA Predictive Analytics is the current name for the product previously sold as PRiSM and as AVEVA Predictive Asset Analytics. The current AVEVA product page uses the name AVEVA Predictive Analytics, so that is what is recorded here; the earlier names remain useful for search but are not current.

Sensor requirement: this is software, and AVEVA does not require you to buy sensors for it. It is designed to sit on top of operational data you already collect. The natural pairing is the AVEVA PI System, the historian AVEVA acquired with OSIsoft, which the page lists as a related product that collects real-time operations data, and the two are paired in AVEVA white paper material. An important honesty note: the Predictive Analytics page does not explicitly state that the product ingests PI System data. The pairing is strongly implied by AVEVA’s own cross-linking, but a buyer should confirm the connector rather than assume it. If you already run PI, that should be the first question on the call.

On mechanism, AVEVA is partially but not fully transparent. The page describes a no-code environment that flags asset anomalies before failures occur, plus fault diagnostics, case management and time-to-failure forecasts with recommended remedial actions. It states that the product ships predefined model templates and that users can bring their own algorithms in Python or a similar language, which is a meaningful and verifiable architectural fact: you are not locked into an opaque vendor model. What AVEVA does not do is name the algorithms behind the templates, enumerate supported failure modes, or state the data history required. Anomaly detection is recorded as supported because the page describes the function and the surrounding workflow; digital twin is recorded as unknown because nothing on the page describes one.

The product does not stand alone commercially. The page positions it inside AVEVA’s wider portfolio, naming CONNECT as the cloud platform and AVEVA Asset Strategy Optimization, AVEVA Mobile Operator and AVEVA Unified Operations Center as related products. That matters: Predictive Analytics is the detection layer, and the reliability-strategy work that turns a detection into a changed maintenance plan sits in a separately marketed AVEVA product.

One further note for 2026: AVEVA has entered an agreement to acquire TwinThread, another product profiled in this category. That signals AVEVA intends to broaden this part of its portfolio, and a buyer should ask how the two predictive lines will be positioned against each other.

Capabilities

Each capability carries its own verification status. “Not verified” means exactly that: it has not been checked, and must not be read as absent.

CapabilityStatusNotes
Root cause analysis Structured root cause analysis of failures. Yes Fault diagnostics and case management are named explicitly. source
Failure prediction Predicting failure or remaining useful life. Recorded only where a source describes it, not from AI claims. Yes Time-to-failure forecasting and recommended remedial actions stated, with predefined model templates and user-supplied Python algorithms. No accuracy or lead-time figures recorded. source
Anomaly detection Detecting deviation from normal behaviour. Recorded only where a source describes the mechanism. Yes Vendor describes a no-code environment that flags asset anomalies before failures occur, with fault diagnostics and case management around it. source
Condition monitoring Monitoring asset condition from sensor or process data. Yes Operates on asset sensor data with data cleansing and fault diagnostics. source
Documented API A publicly documented API for integration. Not verified No public API documentation found. The page states only that users can bring their own algorithms in Python or a similar language.
Reporting and dashboards Reliability and condition reporting and dashboards. Not verified
Work order and CMMS integration Creating or updating maintenance work from APM output. Not verified
SCADA and historian integration Reading from process historians, SCADA or control systems. Not verified
Sensor connectivity Connecting to sensors, whether the vendor supplies them or not. Not verified The product consumes asset sensor data but no protocol or gateway statement was found on the page.
Digital twin A simulation or model-based twin of physical assets. Not verified Not described on the product page.
FMEA support Failure mode and effects analysis within the product. Not verified
Reliability-centred maintenance Structured RCM analysis and strategy development. Not verified
Reliability modelling Reliability and availability modelling of assets or systems. Not verified AVEVA markets reliability strategy work as a separate product, AVEVA Asset Strategy Optimization, rather than within Predictive Analytics.
Asset health scoring Composite asset health or condition indices. Not verified
Vibration analysis Vibration measurement and spectral analysis. Not verified No statement found that the product performs vibration spectral analysis.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Not a closed model. AVEVA states the product ships predefined model templates and lets users bring their own algorithms in Python or a similar language, so an in-house data science team is not locked out. verified source
  • Detection is wrapped in workflow rather than left as a raw alert: fault diagnostics and case management are named capabilities. verified source

Limitations

  • Reliability strategy is a separate purchase. AVEVA positions Asset Strategy Optimization as a distinct related product, so acting on a prediction may require a second licence. verified source
  • The page never explicitly states that the product ingests AVEVA PI System data, despite PI being AVEVA’s own historian and the obvious source. That connector should be confirmed in writing, not assumed. editorial

Who it suits

Organisation sizes: Medium, Enterprise

Fits: process and power operators that already run the AVEVA PI System or another mature historian and want an early-warning layer over it. It suits organisations with a data science or reliability engineering capability, because the ability to bring your own Python algorithms alongside the shipped templates is only an advantage if someone can use it. Utilities, generation fleets, water, chemicals and mining are the typical sectors. Cloud-first buyers are well served, since the delivery described is cloud-enabled.

Does not fit: organisations with no historian. The product assumes a steady stream of operational sensor data, and there is nothing in the public material about hardware, gateways or data collection, so a site without instrumentation coverage must solve that first. It is also not the right purchase if what you want is reliability strategy, RCM or FMEA work, because AVEVA sells that as Asset Strategy Optimization, a different product. Teams wanting a packaged out-of-the-box model with no configuration will find the template plus bring-your-own-algorithm approach more open-ended than they expect.

Typical use cases: early-warning monitoring of generation assets, pumps, compressors and heat exchangers; fault diagnostics with case management so alerts are tracked to resolution; extending an existing PI System deployment from historian and dashboards into prediction; building custom models in Python against historian tags without standing up a separate data science platform.

Buyer caution: confirm in writing that your historian is a supported source, and establish whether you are buying Predictive Analytics alone or need Asset Strategy Optimization alongside it to act on what it finds.

Alternatives

Aspen Mtell AspenTech (Emerson) The other verified failure-prediction product with a comparable shape: software over existing process and condition data, no vendor sensors. Mtell describes its mechanism in more detail through anomaly agents and failure agents, embeds FMEA to prescribe corrective action, and pushes coded work orders into the EAM, which AVEVA does not state. What you lose: AVEVA lets you bring your own Python algorithms alongside shipped templates, and Mtell publishes no such route.
Senseye Predictive Maintenance Siemens A direct peer for scaling advisory condition monitoring over signals you already collect, and the clearest statement in this category that no vendor hardware is needed. Siemens also states developer documentation for providing machine data and work orders, and states openly that it targets large-scale enterprise applications. The gap: Siemens publishes no model family, training history or failure mode list, so failure prediction could not be verified from published sources, and there is no bring-your-own-algorithm route.
TwinThread TwinThread Relevant specifically because of the overlap: AVEVA Advanced Analytics on CONNECT has been described as powered by TwinThread, and AVEVA has entered an agreement to acquire the company pending regulatory approval. TwinThread ships pre-built Asset Reliability and Uptime Optimization solutions and a Model Factory that automates model creation across assets. It is cloud only on Azure with no on-premises or edge option stated, and failure prediction is not credited: it describes anticipating anomalies.
Falkonry Time Series AI Falkonry The better answer if your constraint is deployment rather than modelling. Falkonry offers edge, cloud, on-premises, air-gapped and sovereign options, names Modbus and OPC UA against existing SCADA, DCS and PLC systems, and offers a free one-week offline trial on historical Parquet data, the only trial in this category. It is a time series analytics platform rather than an APM product: no asset hierarchy, no health scoring, no reliability method, and failure prediction is not credited.
Honeywell Forge Asset Performance Management Honeywell A fuller suite with failure prediction also verified, suited to buyers who would rather have vendor models than build their own. Honeywell is explicitly vendor-agnostic, runs on-premises or cloud, names a CMMS work order integration module and covers first-principles performance degradation as well as mechanical health, which AVEVA Predictive Analytics does not claim. You give up the Python extensibility and gain a closed, model-led product.
